[Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Alpha 4 Gnome freezes Thinkpad R31
Verified Gnome 2 is the version that fails on IBM Thinkpad R31. With all other Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex updates on Ubuntu except Gnome 2, R31 runs O.K. Alpha 4 Xubuntu and Kubuntu run O.K. Alpha 3 runs O.K. on the R31. With Alpha 4 Ubuntu CD Live including Gnome 2, verified by booting on a Compaq, booting on R31 proceeds as expected until the Gnome background is supposed to load. All activity ceases, the screen never changes, nothing on the keyboard works, cannot get any logs or any data from the CD Live. The X window cursor moves however none of the buttons work. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace doesn't work. Ctrl-Alt-F1 or F2 don't work. Ctr- Alt-Del doesn't work. Power Off does One way to get data is to install Alpha 3, update everything but Gnome 2, verify it runs O.K. I've done that. Then put on Gnome 2 from the updates. Reboot gets the problem as stated in the bug. At that point I could bring up Alpha 3 which is installed as a dual boot, mount the failed Alpha 4 Gnome 2 install, and look for logs or debug messages or whatever. As an ordinary user, I don't know what evidence Gnome would leave if any about the failure. Thanks for any suggestions. Yes, /proc/acpi/wakeup still seems to have no effect on wakeup events. Though there is an interesting update. [Bug 259195] Re: Mouse pointer selection has become confusing under Gnome 2.22.3 under hardy
upstream set the bug as WontFix: The change is confusing because you are used to the option being elsewhere. That is unfortunate, but inevitable if we don't want to stagnate. The mouse cursor theme is now part of the metatheme format, and there are at least as many arguments in favour of the new location as there are against it. I also challenge the assumption you made in the other bug that more people change their cursors than their other theme settings. Anyway, this has been discussed at length two cycles ago, and I don't currently see any reason to reconsider the decision. The fact that the documentation is outdated is a completely different matter and should be files against the user-docs component. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center Bugwatch: GNOME Bug Tracker #548714 = GNOME Bug Tracker #537128 Status: Invalid = Unknown ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Won't Fix -- Mouse pointer selection has become confusing under Gnome 2.22.3 under hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259195 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 260028] [NEW] openafs-client broken on 8.04 amd64
Brian Gallew [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openafs-client Top level view: there was a half-finished attempt to rename lots of afs things to openafs. /etc/init.d/openafs-client looks for a kernel module named openafs. It's really kafs. openafs-client will not work with the kafs kernel module. You have to use the openafs kernel module. The kafs kernel module is read-only, does not support authentication, and is otherwise seriously crippled. Many of the tools and utilities reference /proc/fs/openafs. [Bug 260192] [NEW] Ubuntu 8.04.1 Sun VirtualBox Incompatibility
Public bug reported: Moving to fuse has caused severe compatibility problems with VirtualBox. Even going through and mounting all Windows drives beforehand, and trying to access them as shared folders in VirtualBox does not work. The drives appear to show up, but are void. Cannot access external USB drive via VirtualBox either, does not show up at all. Attempting to add drives to fstab manually as done in 8.04 appears to corrupt the mount process so that the drive cannot be mounted at all. Putting the fstab back as it was did not fix this problem - had to restore image from backup. Fuse mounts the drives with generic names if no label was assigned. Unable to change names through Properties. Was able to rename from terminal after installing ntfsprogs and using ntsflabel for ntfs volumes and e2label for ext3 volumes. No option to set name during install of Ubuntu. Instructions should indicate the use of double quotes around new name as means of setting case and adding special characters like (). Should be option to keep matters as they were under 8.04. The use of uuid in fstab is counter-productive. If you install a second or third instance of Linux, the drive's uuids will change, and grub will be unable to boot to all instances if the uuid does not match up with that found in the host boot process (/boot/grub/menu.lst). You should permit generic boot order using /dev entries.. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu 8.04.1 Sun VirtualBox Incompatibility https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260192 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 183619] Re: [hardy/intrepid] wlan0: AP denied association
Hi I installed Kubuntu Intrepid some days ago and everything worked fine for some time, but today after booting, my wireless stopped working. I can't connect to any AP, neither WEP, nor w/o encryption. dmesg repeats 'wlan0: privacy configuration mismatch and mixed-cell disabled - disassociate' all over... Usually I use knetworkmanager to connect, but I also tried with iwconfig and via editing /etc/network/interfaces, but both didn't change anything at all. I can scan for the APs and loading the module gives no error. Any ideas how to solve this monster? [Bug 260163] Re: No possibility to see a diff when a pam configuration file are updated
Hi Mehdi, Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve Ubuntu. That's correct, this does not use the classic debconf method for modifying files, which is implemented by ucf. I've tried to avoid pulling ucf into the transitively essential set of packages as part of this change; and I don't believe the traditional set of how to handle the config file options are meaningful here - in particular, every update of a pam module package is a potential source of new merge conflicts, so every update would cause the user to be prompted again, which I don't think is what we want. So I presently consider this a bug that wont be fixed, though I'm willing to be persuaded that the diff functionality is important to users and needs to be supported. ** Changed in: pam (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low Status: New = Won't Fix -- No possibility to see a diff when a pam configuration file are updated https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I downloaded ubuntu-8.04.1-server-i386.iso (the latest release) today and installed it on the Via PD6000E with C3. [Bug 260197] [NEW] Changed home dir folder Music to music sound juicer said 'File not found'?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sound-juicer Sound Juicer 2.20.0-lubuntu3 Ubuntu 7.10 1. I renamed /home/me/Music to /home/me/music. 2. I burnt some cds using sound juicer. 3. Two cycles ago? This only appeared in Ubuntu LTS with the recent release. So people using LTS have only had a few weeks to notice the change, and possibly suggest changes. Discussed at length? This did not involve Ubuntu LTS users, as far as I know. This hasn't appeared in Debian stable yet. Despite the pointer setting being in the theme settings, it appears to be global - a pointer change made in the current theme will stay when the theme changes. [Bug 222922] Re: snd-bt-sco creates an unusable device
Hi Everyone, It unfortunately appears the kernel team was unable to address this for Hardy. The upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release is actively being worked on. Care to confirm this is still an issue with the latest Alpha for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10. You should be able to test via a LiveCD - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing. Please let us know your results. If the issue still exists, per the kernel team's bug policy, can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment. * cat /proc/version_signature version.log * dmesg dmesg.log * sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Additionally, beginning with the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 development cycle the linux-ubuntu-modules package was actually merged with the linux kernel package. Going forward, bugs that would have been reported against linux-ubuntu-modules should now just be reported against linux. I've went ahead and opened the 'linux' task for this report. [Bug 197763] Re: panel menu entry doesn't show correct icon
The problem seems to be caused by the gettext support for .desktop files (01_gettext-desktopfiles.patch in glib2.0). More detailed, in source package gnome-menus in desktop-entries.c (function desktop_entry_load()), the function g_key_file_get_locale_string() from glib2.0 is used to get the icon name from /usr/share/applications/seahorse.desktop . In German locale, the gettext patch then causes that function to translate the icon name seahorse to Seahorse, which is then not found as icon... A workaround is to remove or disable the X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain line in seahorse.desktop. A better solution might be to modify gnome-menus to use g_key_file_get_string() to get the icon name as untranslated string. This has the drawback that desktop file lines like Icon[de]=seahorse-german (to get a locale-specific icon) would not work anymore (is this actually used somewhere?). Also, the Desktop Entry Spec states that the Icon value is a localestring, so g_key_file_get_locale_string() is actually the correct function to use... The Right Way might be to add a flag to g_key_file_get_locale_string() so it loads the icon name as described in its documentation but without translating it with gettext... Not sure if this is possible, though, with regard to compatibility. -- panel menu entry doesn't show correct icon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197763 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
