[Bug 260175] [NEW] apt-get install openjdk-6-jdk fails

2008-08-21 Thread mathew
Public bug reported:

# apt-get install openjdk-6-jdk

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that

that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

[Bug 42691] Re: Attaching a PSP causes RythmBox to launch (Dapper Beta)

Anyone could tell where to edit this, so we could start writing a patch

libhal is queried to ask if the device has the capability
portable_audio_player. I guess that this means that this could be
a bug in libhal, but also that the device is actually reporting this.

Thanks,

James

This has where the excat file is and some other interesting things
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-usb-music-players.fdi
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/178359

Right now I'm working to get this to open a Nautilus window. I get the
ipod logo(not hard to change),2.0GB Media label, and Rythmbox opens.
Right click PropertiesVolume shows no UUID. I would assume that would
be a bit of a problem that should be fixed before getting it to
recognize. At the moment I'm looking up information about HAL to see
what else can be done.

[Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Alpha 4 Gnome freezes Thinkpad R31

2008-08-21 Thread jerrylamos
Verified Gnome 2 is the version that fails on IBM Thinkpad R31.

With all other Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex updates on Ubuntu except Gnome 2,
R31 runs O.K. Alpha 4 Xubuntu and Kubuntu run O.K. Alpha 3 runs O.K.
on the R31.

With Alpha 4 Ubuntu CD Live including Gnome 2, verified by booting on a
Compaq, booting on R31 proceeds as expected until the Gnome background
is supposed to load. All activity ceases, the screen never changes,
nothing on the keyboard works, cannot get any logs or any data from the
CD Live. The X window cursor moves however none of the buttons work.
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace doesn't work. Ctrl-Alt-F1 or F2 don't work. Ctr-
Alt-Del doesn't work. Power Off does

One way to get data is to install Alpha 3, update everything but Gnome
2, verify it runs O.K. I've done that. Then put on Gnome 2 from the
updates. Reboot gets the problem as stated in the bug. At that point I
could bring up Alpha 3 which is installed as a dual boot, mount the
failed Alpha 4 Gnome 2 install, and look for logs or debug messages or
whatever. As an ordinary user, I don't know what evidence Gnome would
leave if any about the failure.

Thanks for any suggestions. Jerry

[Bug 250018] Re: /proc/acpi/wakeup does not disable wakeup on lid switch

2008-08-21 Thread makito
Yes, /proc/acpi/wakeup still seems to have no effect on wakeup events. Though
there is an interesting update.
If I disable LID0 in /proc/acpi/wakeup and suspend with pm-utils the laptop
wakes up on opening the lid and LID0 is still disabled in /proc/acpi/wakeup.
But when I use the old hibernate scripts it seemed to work once, but after that
it wakes on opening the lid but if you look at /proc/acpi/wakeup LID0 is now
enabled.

I am running Ubuntu 8.04.01 on a clevo m540n notebook.

[Bug 259799] Re: Suggestion: support for ecryptfs in Nautilus

2008-08-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
whatever those directory configuration is it should be able to be set up
on other distributions too and nautilus should handle those correctly,
so there is no reason that should not be something upstream should
accept changing, anyway the ubuntu desktop team doesn't have the
ressources to work on such changes so it's a contributor or upstream
wishlist

[Bug 259195] Re: Mouse pointer selection has become confusing under Gnome 2.22.3 under hardy

2008-08-21 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
upstream set the bug as WontFix:

The change is confusing because you are used to the option being elsewhere.
That is unfortunate, but inevitable if we don't want to stagnate.

The mouse cursor theme is now part of the metatheme format, and there are at
least as many arguments in favour of the new location as there are against
it.

I also challenge the assumption you made in the other bug that more people
change their cursors than their other theme settings.

Anyway, this has been discussed at length two cycles ago, and I don't currently
see any reason to reconsider the decision.

The fact that the documentation is outdated is a completely different matter
and should be files against the user-docs component.

Re: [Bug 260028] [NEW] openafs-client broken on 8.04 amd64

2008-08-21 Thread Russ Allbery
Brian Gallew [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Public bug reported:

 Binary package hint: openafs-client

Top level view: there was a half-finished attempt to rename lots of afs
 things to openafs.

/etc/init.d/openafs-client looks for a kernel module named openafs.
 It's really kafs.

openafs-client will not work with the kafs kernel module. You have to use
the openafs kernel module. The kafs kernel module is read-only, does not
support authentication, and is otherwise seriously crippled.

Many of the tools and utilities reference /proc/fs/openafs.
Unfortunately, /proc/fs/afs contains the data in question.

Not if you're running the right kernel module.

[Bug 260192] [NEW] Ubuntu 8.04.1 Sun VirtualBox Incompatibility

2008-08-21 Thread OldeFoxx
Public bug reported:

Moving to fuse has caused severe compatibility problems with VirtualBox.
Even going through and mounting all Windows drives beforehand, and
trying to access them as shared folders in VirtualBox does not work.
The drives appear to show up, but are void. Cannot access external USB
drive via VirtualBox either, does not show up at all.

Attempting to add drives to fstab manually as done in 8.04 appears to
corrupt the mount process so that the drive cannot be mounted at all.
Putting the fstab back as it was did not fix this problem - had to
restore image from backup. Fuse mounts the drives with generic names if
no label was assigned. Unable to change names through Properties. Was
able to rename from terminal after installing ntfsprogs and using
ntsflabel for ntfs volumes and e2label for ext3 volumes. No option to
set name during install of Ubuntu. Instructions should indicate the use
of double quotes around new name as means of setting case and adding
special characters like ().

Should be option to keep matters as they were under 8.04. The use of
uuid in fstab is counter-productive. If you install a second or third
instance of Linux, the drive's uuids will change, and grub will be
unable to boot to all instances if the uuid does not match up with that
found in the host boot process (/boot/grub/menu.lst). You should permit
generic boot order using /dev entries..

However, what I meant to originally say is that this is not a bug. There

category of restricted software. Once you have these sorts of plugins
installed to gstreamer like the gstreamer ugly and the ffmpeg gstreamer
plugins you wont see the message again. Thank you for your report and

[Bug 183619] Re: [hardy/intrepid] wlan0: AP denied association

2008-08-21 Thread Paul Hoell
Hi
I installed Kubuntu Intrepid some days ago and everything worked fine for some
time, but today after booting, my wireless stopped working.
I can't connect to any AP, neither WEP, nor w/o encryption.
dmesg repeats
'wlan0: privacy configuration mismatch and mixed-cell disabled - disassociate'
all over...
Usually I use knetworkmanager to connect, but I also tried with iwconfig and
via editing /etc/network/interfaces, but both didn't change anything at all.
I can scan for the APs and loading the module gives no error.
Any ideas how to solve this monster? Preferably without the need for a working
internetconnection ;)

[Bug 260163] Re: No possibility to see a diff when a pam configuration file are updated

2008-08-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Mehdi,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve
Ubuntu.

That's correct, this does not use the classic debconf method for
modifying files, which is implemented by ucf. I've tried to avoid
pulling ucf into the transitively essential set of packages as part of
this change; and I don't believe the traditional set of how to handle
the config file options are meaningful here - in particular, every
update of a pam module package is a potential source of new merge
conflicts, so every update would cause the user to be prompted again,
which I don't think is what we want.

So I presently consider this a bug that wont be fixed, though I'm
willing to be persuaded that the diff functionality is important to
users and needs to be supported.

I just enabled hardy-proposed updates in Synaptic package manager and

[Bug 254453] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha-3 Intrepid Ibex - Via C3 CPU not Supported

2008-08-21 Thread MG
I downloaded ubuntu-8.04.1-server-i386.iso (the latest release) today
and installed it on the Via PD6000E with C3. It installed and restarted
without any noticeable problems. /proc/version reports the following
version:

(Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu7)) #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:43:41 UTC 2008

The 8.04 server version will boot on a VIA C3 Samuel 2. Therefore if
there is a problem, it appears to originate in Intrepid Ibex.

[Bug 260197] [NEW] Changed home dir folder Music to music sound juicer said 'File not found'?

2008-08-21 Thread mike cohen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

Sound Juicer 2.20.0-lubuntu3
Ubuntu 7.10

1. I renamed /home/me/Music to /home/me/music.
2. I burnt some cds using sound juicer.
3. I started it up this evening to get solid air into my mp3 set.
4. I setting seems to revert back to /home/me/Music which it shouldn't i guess.
5. So rather then keep changing the setting back to /music I may as well let sj
have its way and changed the directory back to /home/me/Music.
6. SJ then threw 'File was Not Found' - still looking for /music maybe?

Since then I've changed the preference to /video and removed the cd,
open and shut the drawer. Am hoping restart the computer will put things
back to normal.

Hope this is enough information. If you tell me where the log file is I
can try and reproduce it.

Thanks for the program by the way - has been a pleasure to use use aside the
above.

[Bug 259195] Re: Mouse pointer selection has become confusing under Gnome 2.22.3 under hardy

2008-08-21 Thread Peter Belew
Two cycles ago? This only appeared in Ubuntu LTS with the recent
release. So people using LTS have only had a few weeks to notice the
change, and possibly suggest changes.

Discussed at length? This did not involve Ubuntu LTS users, as far as I
know.

This hasn't appeared in Debian stable yet.

Despite the pointer setting being in the theme settings, it appears to
be global - a pointer change made in the current theme will stay when
the theme changes. Was the intention to associate the pointer with a
theme? If not, why connect pointer setting with themes?

[Bug 222922] Re: snd-bt-sco creates an unusable device

2008-08-21 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Everyone,

It unfortunately appears the kernel team was unable to address this for
Hardy. The upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release is actively being worked
on. Care to confirm this is still an issue with the latest Alpha for
the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10. You should be able to test via a
LiveCD - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing. Please let us know your
results. If the issue still exists, per the kernel team's bug policy,
can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to
attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature  version.log
* dmesg  dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn  lspci-vvnn.log

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies .

Additionally, beginning with the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 development cycle
the linux-ubuntu-modules package was actually merged with the linux
kernel package. Going forward, bugs that would have been reported
against linux-ubuntu-modules should now just be reported against linux.
I've went ahead and opened the 'linux' task for this report. Thanks.

[Bug 197763] Re: panel menu entry doesn't show correct icon

2008-08-21 Thread Oliver Gerlich
The problem seems to be caused by the gettext support for .desktop files
(01_gettext-desktopfiles.patch in glib2.0). More detailed, in source
package gnome-menus in desktop-entries.c (function
desktop_entry_load()), the function g_key_file_get_locale_string() from
glib2.0 is used to get the icon name from
/usr/share/applications/seahorse.desktop . In German locale, the gettext
patch then causes that function to translate the icon name seahorse to
Seahorse, which is then not found as icon...

A workaround is to remove or disable the X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain line in
seahorse.desktop.
A better solution might be to modify gnome-menus to use g_key_file_get_string()
to get the icon name as untranslated string. This has the drawback that desktop
file lines like Icon[de]=seahorse-german (to get a locale-specific icon)
would not work anymore (is this actually used somewhere?). Also, the Desktop
Entry Spec states that the Icon value is a localestring, so
g_key_file_get_locale_string() is actually the correct function to use...
The Right Way might be to add a flag to g_key_file_get_locale_string() so it
loads the icon name as described in its documentation but without translating
it with gettext... Not sure if this is possible, though, with regard to
compatibility.

[Bug 119194] Re: [hardy] ps2 mouse erratic - parity errors - lost synchronization errors

2008-08-21 Thread Nicholas
This is happening to me too. I'm using the latest *19 kernel. Its a PS/2
mouse. I have no WiFi cards or touchpads. It drives me crazy. The mouse
randomly clicks stuff, in in one case, edited my email to gibberish :( I
hope there is a fix soon.

[Bug 109672] Re: Windows 2000 hangs on start when grub is used

2008-08-21 Thread Tomas Van Verrewegen
I did a couple of trials. I was wondering what 'savedefault' was doing
in my Vista entry in menu.lst, it shouldn't be there so I removed it.
And to my surprise that seemed to solve the problem! So I rebooted once
more and added it again from the Grub gui at boot and got the error:
Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS. Rebooted without
'savedefault' and it works. All very strange to me. What does
'savedefault' have to do with this behaviour? Way beyond my
understanding.

This is the entry after upgrade (that doesn't work):
# This entry automatically added by the Debian installer for a non-linux OS
# on /dev/sda3
title Windows Vista/Longhorn (loader)
root(hd0,2)
makeactive
savedefault
chainloader +1

This is the one that works:
title Windows Vista/Longhorn (loader)
root(hd0,2)
makeactive
chainloader +1

[Bug 259605] Re: unable to auto-accept dcc file transfer

2008-08-21 Thread jaktar
I connect to a Netgear WGR614v9 router with NAT filtering set to open.
After my router I have a satellite modem (Wildblue ISP).

I did find some info in my routers log which indicated that something
incoming was attempting an 'IP spoof' DOS attack. I'll do a little more
testing to see if I can pin down what's causing it.

[Bug 223802] Re: No Sound in Hardy Heron (was working in Beta, not working in final release)

2008-08-21 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi cubical10,

Is this still an issue for you with the even more recent 2.6.24-19
kernel? If so, care to confirm this is still an issue with the latest
Alpha for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10. You should be able to test
via a LiveCD - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing. Please let us know your
results. If the issue still exists, per the kernel team's bug policy,
can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to
attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature  version.log
* dmesg  dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn  lspci-vvnn.log

I'm going to go ahead and open this against the 'linux' task. Thanks.

believe has an even newer version of the iwl4965 driver. Do you still
notice these issues? Please let us know your results. Thanks.

2008-08-21 Thread wbm
I completely wiped my hd and loaded the latest Ubuntu. I tried the driver
again with ndiswrapper and had no freezes or errors. It seems the problem is
fixed. The driver didn't work for my builtin WiFi but thats not your
problem. It did not freeze the system. Good work you guys!

[Bug 259915] Re: ecryptfs should use pam-auth-update rather than auth-client-config

2008-08-21 Thread Steve Langasek
As mentioned in my follow-up to bug #260122, the postrm is the wrong
place to call pam-auth-update for removal.

Please instead call it in the prerm instead, using semantics equivalent
to the following:

if [ $1 = remove ]; then
pam-auth-update --package --remove ecryptfs-utils
fi

Implementing --remove is on my todo list for today; and it won't hurt
anything to call pam-auth-update with unknown arguments in the meantime.
But I can understand that you might want to test this before upload :-),
so should I let you know once pam -3ubuntu3 is available?
