[Bug 221595] Re: keyboard shortcuts don't match with functions in Impress
Hello, I can confirm this behaviour in OOo 3.0 / Xubuntu 8.10. The fix, in my case was to set the User interface language [Tools | Options... | Language settings | Languages] to English (USA) and then copy the OOo Writer shortcuts file to the OOo Impress shortcuts file: cp ~/.openoffice.org/3/user/config/soffice.cfg/modules/swriter/accelerator /en-US/current.xml ~/.openoffice.org/3/user/config/soffice.cfg/modules/simpress/accelerator /en-US/current.xml en-US, while not my default locale (en-GB is, which is close enough), was the only locale for which I had the accelerators file for OOo Writer. I would assume that for other locales (e.g., DE), it would simply be a case of, for example, 's/en-US/DE/g' in the above command line. When I understand this right, following stuff appeared from Hardy to Intrepid: a) (minor issue) dhclient-script is not started per default. So the path to dhclient-script should be set right (to /sbin/dhclient-script) in /etc/dhclient.conf b) up to hardy, at the end in the dhclient-exit-hooks.d there is a should be some script telling the NetworkManager (via dbus?) that dhclient has done it's job. In hardy, this was done by _dhcdbd but dhcbd is not there any more in intrepid. And this seems to be the issue: there is nothing in dhclients exit hooks which tells the nm, that the job is done. [Bug 319146] [NEW] When a release reaches End-of-Life, update manager should show EoL status and provide a link with working procedures and more information.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager Severity: wishlist Related to: Bug #1, update-manager, ubuntu documentation Description: Supposedly a release reaches its End-of-Life (EoL). In that case repositories simply disappear, just as they have with 7.04 Feisty, see: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty/ The old releases archives and installation files are transferred to http://old-releases.ubuntu.com Imagine being a simple user, that has just entered the world of Internet. They had installed an Ubuntu release before and were using it offline, and the release is not supported anymore. With the Internet connection present, the update-manager prompts the user with the choice to upgrade to a newer release and, due to these changes, they can't. Scenario: - A granny has been using a computer with Ubuntu installed. - The same granny recently decided to get connected to the internet, but she was using an Ubuntu distribution that has reached its EoL. - She connects to the internet, says OK, let's see some Internet-related applications. - She discovers System Administration Update Manager. Oh let's try it and see if there's anything new of games for my grandchildren - She checks for updates and notices the new release upgrade. A new version of Ubuntu, how nice, let's download it then! - She can't upgrade because the repository or repositories are missing and cannot be found. The notification for new release upgrade is still available though. Oh great, now what do I do? Problem: This gives out a broken upgrade plan to the user who gets confused. A normal desktop user does not read mailing lists or could be completely tech-agnostic, a person that doesn't know how to connect to the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) and find a solution to their problems. I realise that these releases are unsupported and are supposed to be broken as many of you think - I'm *not* asking to support with security updates nor to provide new packages for old releases. Tested and reproduced on: Ubuntu 6.10 edgy (upgrade to 7.10 through update-manager) Ubuntu 7.04 feisty (upgrade to 7.10 through update-manager) Ubuntu 7.04 feisty (upgrade to 7.10 with alternate CD) Note: Upgrades with alternate CD *work* if you choose No to the question Include latest updates from the Internet. This step could be included in the documentation. Expectations: I simply wish that the users, who eventually end up using the internet on an old unsupported release, get notified about that. They should be given *at least* a link which they could simply click to find out more information. Solution steps: 1) There should be a way to check for the End-of-Life status from within the repository http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu The same way it gets the Release file, there should be a file that states that this current distribution is not supported and not available anymore. There should also be a link explaining more information about it, for example for upgrades from unsupported 7.04 Feisty Fawn to the next supported release, 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GutsyUpgrades This file for End-of-Life could be let's say an RSS feed, showing the supported releases a person could attempt to upgrade to, and the date when is their (of the supported releases) End-of-Life. An RSS Parser with update-manager would do the trick for the client application. 2) As it is now, the update manager shows Your system is up-to-date. Once update-manager realises that the release it's being run on has a specific EoL tag or file in the archive mirrors, it should state that Your system is outdated and not supported anymore (with letters that can be easily noticed, e.g. red colour), along with the link in the help documentation about upgrading to the new release. 3) If the upgrade process involves changing a file's contents, such as the deb source repos in /etc/apt/sources.lists, then the update manager should attempt to do that on its own (with a Yes/No confirmation by the user). This step is a bit far-fetched, but (1) and (2) are of utmost importance. 4) There should be a link to the help documentation about the new release and how to upgrade, I mean it should refer to the latest supported or LTS release, for example: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades In that link, there should be a section for end-of-life upgrades (as I mentioned in a note above), with enough information to at least attempt an upgrade, even on an unsupported release. Attached are some screenshots I've taken during the upgrade procedures. ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- When a release reaches End-of-Life, update manager should show EoL status and provide a link with working procedures and more information. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/319146 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list

4) There should be a link to the help documentation about the new release and how to upgrade, I mean it should refer to the latest supported or LTS release, for example:

I was unable to simply remove the LVM immediately, so went into the LVM configuration and removed all of the LVs within the VG, and then the VG itself. The operation was successful, and shortly before the next step of the install was ready, the progress bar jumped to 100%. The period of waiting (in my case) was roughly 20 - 30 minutes (lots of data to move, I presume) and the HD activity indicator never stopped. [Bug 316414] Re: [i965] After leaving fullscreen, Intrepid draws only wallpaper, mouse cursor, and nothing more.
I ran Ubuntu 9.04 alpha3 LiveCD but I could't install VLC to test the bug yet... sorry... I tried unsuccessfully to install VLC using synaptic, apt-get, adding sources and manually. I got stuck with a dependency (libpng2) in the manual process... Totem (either on Ubuntu 8.10 or on 9.04) causes a related video bug, but it's different: if I play a video in fullscreen mode, in Totem, and try to switch windows with ALT+TAB, if the other window is maximized, the screen starts switching very very fast between the video window and the other window. It feels like the screen is blinking, but it's not. It is just switching very fast betwin the 2 windows. If I release ALT+TAB, one of the windows will be on top, and I can still use my computer normally. That happens both in 8.10 and in 9.04 alpha3. Good news are: screen brightness control work out of the box. [Bug 318097] Re: utsrelease.h states that version is 2.6.27-7
That is unexpected as the headers are generated from the same source as the kernel in theory, and both should have been built from the same version of utsrelease.h and thus have the same value. Checking the flavour specific headers those are (as expected) flavour specific headers. They appear to have the correct version of the header file matching the version number: == ./headers-amd64/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.27-10-server/include/linux/utsrelease.h == #define UTS_RELEASE 2.6.27-10-server == ./headers-i386/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.27-10-server/include/linux/utsrelease.h == #define UTS_RELEASE 2.6.27-10-server I would therefore expect this to have been correct without manual intervention. Can we confirm that your installed header package is identicle to the one I have. You can find the installed package file in /var/cache/apt, something like this: md5sum /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-headers-2.6.27-10-server_*.deb I am expecting the following: a...@dm$ sum -r linux-headers-2.6.27-10* 47256 630 linux-headers-2.6.27-10-server_2.6.27-10.20_amd64.deb 00922 614 linux-headers-2.6.27-10-server_2.6.27-10.20_i386.deb a...@dm$ Also could you have a look at the installation logs from apt for when it installed the package and see what if anything it said. Not sure why, but this bug didn't get closed even though the fix has been uploaded. Changelog is: pam (1.0.1-5ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low * Merge from Debian unstable * Remaining changes: - debian/libpam-modules.postinst: Add PATH to /etc/environment if it's not present there or in /etc/security/pam_env.conf. (Originally patch 100; converted to quilt.) - Change Vcs-Bzr to point at the Ubuntu branch. - debian/local/pam-auth-update (et al): new interface for managing /etc/pam.d/common-*, using drop-in config snippets provided by module packages. - debian/local/common-password, debian/pam-configs/unix: switch from md5 to sha512 as password crypt default. * Bump the version numbers referenced in the config files, again, as pam has revved in Debian and moved the bar. * pam-auth-update: If /var/lib/pam/seen is absent, treat this the same as a present but empty file; thanks to Greg Price for the patch. LP: #294513. * pam-auth-update: Ignore removed profiles when detecting an empty set of currently-enabled modules. Thanks to Greg Price for this as well. * debian/control: libpam-runtime needs a versioned dependency on debconf, because it uses the x_loadtemplatefile extension that's not supported by debconf versions before hardy. LP: #295135. * pam-auth-update: trim leading whitespace from multiline fields when parsing PAM profiles. LP: #295441. * pam-auth-update: factor out the duplicate code used for returning the lines for a given module [ Jonathan Marsden ] * debian/patches/027_pam_limits_better_init_allow_explicit_root: Add to patch, documenting how to set limits for root user. Include an example. Alters limits.conf, limits.conf.5.xml, and limits.conf.5 . [Bug 319168] [NEW] [ubuntu 8.04] On finishing one trac/video the player jumps randomly all over to different positions (using 100% cpu) instead playing
Public bug reported: After playing one movie, the player starts to play it again (or advances to next position in play list) but it does not play the 2nd movie, instead it starts to jump all over it (in example to position 30% then 70% then 60% then 80% of the movie length) using 100% of cpu core. If there is more then 1 movie in playlist, then sometimes it jumps to random position in the 2nd movie and plays normally from there. Since VLC also fails in similar way, it would be really nice to fix at least one player... ** Affects: kaffeine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [ubuntu 8.04] On finishing one trac/video the player jumps randomly all over to different positions (using 100% cpu) instead playing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/319168 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kaffeine in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
