[Bug 325958] Re: Jaunty Alpha 4: Ubiquity windows does not fit on 1024x600 screen

2009-03-31 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
I didn't read the previous comments in detail, and I didn't know any
vendor was still selling netbooks with 480-pixel-high displays. If
catering for those displays is a priority, I suggest that Ubiquity
automatically start full-screen whenever the display is less than 550px
or so high. That way, the panels and title bar won't be taking up
vertical space.

[Bug 352332] [NEW] LC_TIME setting ignored

2009-03-31 Thread Christian Menzel
Public bug reported:

9.04 beta upgraded from 8.10
applications such as evolution or ooffice as well as the terminal ignore the
LC_TIME setting (in my case de_DE.UFT-8) an show dates as '-mm-dd' or
'dd/mm/' instead of 'dd.mm.' which is defined in the 'de-DE' locale.
The names of the months, although, are displayed using the German names.

[Bug 352309] [NEW] [LENOVO 0769EUG] suspend/resume failure

2009-03-31 Thread Oybon
Public bug reported:

Suspends fine, sleep diode lights up on case.

Test failed to auto resume, so manually resumed via keyboard.

On resume, siren sounds from speakers (single high pitched tone) and
system fails to resume. Only solution to remove DC cord and battery
before ears explode.

On restart, generated this bug report.

This behavior has been identical for hardy, intrepid, and now jaunty.

System believed to be fine as suspend resume works fine in XP

ProblemType: KernelOops

resuming properly.

[Bug 352321] [NEW] mysql queries lose results

2009-03-31 Thread Martin Wimmer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mysql-server-5.0

Problem tested on: Ubuntu Hardy Heron (Server)

On certain (mostly large) queries that use nested joins, when using LEFT
JOIN's with tables which are empty, other joins seem to also to be
evaluated as empty although they shouldn't be. As soon as I add a dummy
entry to the empty table (which is not joined because of the on clause)
the results are correct

This seems to be a problem of the query optimizer.

Following example query leads to the problems. (The empty table is
a20_1_temp. The table join for a20_1_shop_element is then evaluated as
empty)

Unfortunately I couldn't make the query less complex as I did here as the bug
doesn't appear then any more.
I can provide a database setup script to create the database if needed.

SELECT *
FROM ((`at_telacc_demopool`.`plib_objects_plib_objects_dbo` a20_1_dbo,

[Bug 344583] Re: yakuake crashed with SIGSEGV in QMenu::findIdForAction()

2009-03-31 Thread Tomasz Czapiewski
I can confirm that yakuake segfaults (not freezing) after setting width or
height different to defaults.
Clean kubuntu jaunty-desktop-amd64 install from 2009-03-30 snapshot, installed
~30-60 minutes ago, upgraded just after install (now), default settings (+
yakuake and kde packages installed), no extra repositories.
No additional info to that it just segfaulted (tried yakuake --nofork run in
konsole), no apport dialog window.
Tested few times - everytime the same result.
Locale: PL.
Package: yakuake-2.9.4-0ubuntu1 (amd64)

Re: [Bug 38131] Re: Firefox causes massive Xorg CPU usage

2009-03-31 Thread Robert
I have recently tried the Firefox 3.1 Beta 3 binary from
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html - so far the
problem has not recurred. (However, I am using a 32-bit build on a
64-bit machine, and some of the plugins such as Flash are disabled.)

Is there a 64-bit version of that version of Firefox in Intrepid
backports or developer repositories that people could try?

[Bug 352322] [NEW] startx from CD boot fails on nvidia card

2009-03-31 Thread Mark Wilby
Public bug reported:

I have just tried booting my laptop with the live CD from the Ubuntu
9.04 beta release.

The boot fails to start the desktop, putting the computer into a command
line prompt. A quick check shows that xwindows failed to start.

When I run

sudo startx

It reports that
no screens found

I get the same behavior with the safe graphics mode option.

I also get the same behavior with 8.1, which also had the MP-BIOS
bug:8254 Timer not connected problem. This confuses the problem with
8.10, but with 9.04 the bios problem has gone, but the xwindows problem
remains. So it is fair to assume they are not related.

In the case of 8.04 the entire system works perfectly (with the
exception of the webcam)

The laptop is a Clevo D901c with
# Intel Core 2 QUAD
# SLI ENABLED DUAL nVidia 9800M GTX Video Cards

The configuration is obviously that which is shipped with the CD. An
isolated partition obtains the same behavior. But as I know nothing
about xwindows, I don't know how to change the config files.

[Bug 352336] [NEW] Marvel SAS 6440 not supported, missing mvsas module in kernel

2009-03-31 Thread vincefn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic

The Serial Attached Scsi (SAS) diver for Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Device
6440 is not included in the kernel. This prevents using SAS disks with Ubuntu
jaunty.
This driver is included in a number of motherboards (in my case an ASAS
P5N64), and is required both for installation and running Ubuntu.

The relevant line in lspci is:
08:00.0 SCSI storage controller [0100]: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Device
[11ab:6440] (rev 02)

Solution: compile mvsas module in the linux kernel = option
CONFIG_SCSI_MVSAS

 cf module description @ http://cateee.net/lkddb/web-
lkddb/SCSI_MVSAS.html

tested on Jaunty (updated 2009/03/30), kernel 2.6.28-11-server and
2.6.28-11-generic:

root@:/home/vincent/bug# apt-cache policy linux-image-2.6.28-11-server

[Bug 352336] Re: Marvel SAS 6440 not supported, missing mvsas module in kernel

2009-03-31 Thread vincefn
NB: The issue is the same for the -generic and -server kernels. The
-generic is more important to fix as it is used for the installer cd/dvd
images.

[Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch

2009-03-31 Thread Dr.w
Hello,

First, sorry for my bad English but I am French :) .

I have a X300-14N Toshiba laptop with this configuration :
3 GPU : 1X 9400M GT and a SLI with 2X 9800M GTS
Intel Q9000 Core2Quad
2X 320GB SATA HDD
In USA you have the equivalent with X305-706 and X305-708 but the HDD and the
Q9000 change (one have a Core2Duo and one a SSD)

I have a Dual Boot with Windows Vista 64B and Ubuntu 8.10 64bit
Currently I can start the X server if I configure my xorg.conf to specify the
BusID of my 9400M GT.
If I specify one 9800M GTS I cant start ubuntu : No screen Found.

I cant disable the Hybrid SLI in my BIOS.

With lspci | grep VGA I have :
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Device 0628 (rev a1)
04:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 9400M G (rev b1)

but in the Nvidia-setting I can see (I have the 180.11 nvidia driver) :
9400M GT BusID: 4:0:0
9800M GTS 1 BusID: 3:0:0
9800M GTS 2 BusID: 2:0:0

This is my DSDT.dsl : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IB3RRUCY

[Bug 339746] Re: Sync gsmartcontrol 0.8.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-03-31 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
** Description changed:

- Please sync gsmartcontrol 0.8.3-3 (universe) from Debian unstable
- (main).
+ Please accept gsmartcontrol package from Debian unstable (main). Currently
Ubuntu Jaunty doesn't have this useful package, it would be nice if Ubuntu 9.04
users could have ability to see hard drives status (health) and test hard
drives.
+ Hard drive failure is very common problem, users with broken hard drives
often are reporting bugs about Ubuntu problems - they don't know, that there
are hard drive problems, not Ubuntu.

- Changelog since current jaunty version 0:
+ GSmartControl 0.8.4-1 is currently in Debian unstable and gsmartcontrol
+ (0.8.3-3) is in testing.
+
+ GSmartControl 0.8.4 has these improvements:
+ * Linux Software RAID devices are blacklisted now. (backported from
Debian).
+ * Attributes tab is before the capabilities tab now.
+ * A man page has been generously contributed by Giuseppe Iuculano
giuseppe 'at' iuculano.it.
+ * Smartctl version now includes the CVS snapshot date (if available).

  gsmartcontrol (0.8.3-3) unstable; urgency=low

* [7468f7c] debian/control: Fix Vcs-Browsser field
* [5c94558] debian/gsmartcontrol.1: gsmartcontrol supports quite a
number of options, added to manpage. Thanks Alexander Shaduri
* [f8e620b] debian/gsmartcontrol-root: The gsmartcontrol-root script
was incompatible with the original one, which uses the first
argument for desktop selection. Fixed, thanks Alexander Shaduri
* [10861d9] debian/copyright: gsmartcontrol is released under either
GPL 2 or GPL 3 but not any other version, so point to both of the
specific versions of the GPL that the package license references and
  fix copyright-refers-to-versionless-license-file lintian warning.

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2009-03-31 Thread chad
I experienced this bug as well. I tried all the fixes in this thread as
well as other sites but nothing worked. Sometimes my usb would die and
lose all power and a restart wouldn't even bring back power. I could
unplug and replug in my flash drive and it would be assigned a new
address or I would have to totally shut down and reboot to reset my usb
system. That made me think that the kernel was making my usb system
crash at the bios level. I disabled my usb 2.0 in bios and it worked but
I had usb 1 transfer speeds. So I disabled bios legacy support and re-
enabled bios 2.0 on chip contoller. It again caused my usb to crash on
large files and caused a slow down in transfers on small files. I read
about plug and play crashing the usb on another thread
(http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb-develm=106789579416232w=2) and looked
in my plug and play configurations in my bios. There was a option to
assign irq to usb that was enabled. I disabled it and now have had no
problems with transferring files. I think some people with this problem
might be helped by this fix.

I have award bios (not sure the version) and am running ubuntu 8.04.1
fully patched

 A tener en cuenta:

   1. Como trabajas con una versión beta, debes actualizar la distribución
casi un par de veces al día. Hasta que no esté terminada la 9.04 creo que
 no
empiezan a avisar las actualizaciones automáticas. Tal vez se resuelva el
problema de Nvidia. A mí me va bien.
   2. Espero que hayas instalado correctamente con la versión de Ubuntu para
   AMD.
   3. Entra en Sistema / Soporte de Idiomas y carga todos los paquetes de
idiomas con las que quieres trabajar.

 Un saludo.

[Bug 307301] Re: [needs-packaging] gsmartcontrol-- A GUI for smartmontools

2009-03-31 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Ubuntu still doesn't have GSmartControl package, there is the bugreport
about syncing gsmartcontrol 0.8.4-1 from Debian unstable, maybe this
bugreport should be marked as a duplicate of bug #339746 ?

[Bug 352343] [NEW] firefox tab and enter key no longer function as before

2009-03-31 Thread rhand
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I upgraded to the latest Firefox version via the regular automatic Ubuntu
upgrade. Now enter does not make the cursor go to the next line in a text
field. Furthermore, the tab does not work anymore to switch fields. I hope this
can be fixed soon as I am very attached to shortkeys and or hotkeys for Firefox.
Description: Ubuntu 8.0.4.2 Release: 8.0.4

[Bug 352317] Re: upgrade is aborted (from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04)

2009-03-31 Thread Michael Vogt
It seems like the rtupdate hook script in the intrepid version does not
know about python2.6 yet. So if the old version is installed and the
rtupdate script is run and tries to pass python2.6 boot errors with
unknown version.

[Bug 325958] Re: Jaunty Alpha 4: Ubiquity windows does not fit on 1024x600 screen

2009-03-31 Thread Tomasz Dominikowski
It does not matter if any vendor is currently selling such netbooks or
not. I don't think this is a reasonable condition upon which it should
be decided whether to support 800x480 screens or not. My notebook is no
longer produced, does that mean we should drop support for it? Just
because nothing was done to support those screens during the first
netbook boom doesn't mean nothing should be done now. Granted, it is a
small part of the install base, but they do exist and because of that
they should be supported. If this is too hard and/or late to do now it
should be deferred to Karmic, but it should be done.

[Bug 352351] [NEW] ftp ssl broken with Ubuntu update to openssl - 03/30/09

2009-03-31 Thread yarly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kftpgrabber

Bug encountered on:
-
Ubuntu 8.10 amd64
KFTPgrabber 0.8.1-2 (kftpgrabber_0.8.1-2_amd64.deb)
libssl0.9.8 (0.9.8g-10.1ubuntu2.2)

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/0.9.8g-10.1ubuntu2.2

seems pretty cut and dry. Yesterday, ssl was working fine, today it's
not.

03/30/09 - Ubuntu Update Manager has an update for Openssl libs. After
installing updates, ssl no longer is working in KFTPgrabber. Re-
installing KFTPgrabber makes no difference.
