Fwd: Is disabling ctrl-alt-backspace really such a good idea?
-- Forwarded message -- From: Liam Zwitser liamzwit...@gmail.com Date: Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 9:40 AM Subject: Is disabling ctrl-alt-backspace really such a good idea? To: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Hello everyone, In Jaunty alpha 3 you can´t use CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE to restart the X-server anymore. I know that some users complained about restarting the X-server, but I see a lot more, including yours truly, complaining about the fact that the shortcut got disabled. I think it's a good idea to create a GUI to set X-server options, but I assume that most people don´t want to have to restart their pc when the GUI chrashes. It´s not windows, after all. What I propose is that people who want to get rid of the shortcut can do so easily via a simple GUI menu, but that it´s enabled by default. I would like to see this package as well. I want to create some 3d environments, but I am not ready to learn C++ just yet and this is the only free 3d graphics engine that has a python wrapper. [Bug 259727] [NEW] gnome-keyboard-properties doesn't work correctly
Public bug reported: I have been trying to get the usa international with dead keys keyboard layout to work, do I can create an accented e with ' + e, for example, and an umlaut with shift + ' + u . Selecting this layout in keyboard preferences however only worked untill I restarted the x-server / my computer, and for some reason, doesn't work at all anymore now. this is my current xorg.conf keyboard section: Section InputDevice Identifier Generic Keyboard Driver kbd Option CoreKeyboard Option XkbRules xorg Option XkbModel pc105 Option XkbLayout us Option XkbVariant intl EndSection Now how can I set it so that dead keys work as described above, and why doesn't gnome-keyboard-properties work? I think it has somehthing to do with permissions, becasue the program doesn't ask for your pasword, and /etc/X11/xorg.conf requires root permissions to save any changes in it. Also, when I log in as root, by typing startx from a root terminal, and I select the keyboard layout (graphically), the program works fine. (until I restart the xserver / reboot the computer, then the dead keys don't work anymore, just like before) ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-keyboard-properties doesn't work correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259727 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: jockey-gtk - Release 8.10 intrepid ibex alpha 1 - Package version latest, namely 0.3.3-0ubuntu9 - expected Upon first boot, I expected a popup ¨restricted drivers are available¨, to appear in the taskbar.
