[Bug 827669] Re: [138a:0018] Validity Sensors fingerprint reader not recognized
Hi guys On 12.04 it is a bit tricky for the driver to install ok because the one on the fprint repo replaces the one of the deb package. Try this: sudo apt-get remove libfprint0 install the deb again sudo apt-get install fprintd libpam-fprintd I think that you need to install the deb package first and then install the other files from the fprint repo. [Bug 827669] Re: [138a:0018] Validity Sensors fingerprint reader not recognized
After some testing with the fingerprint reader integration of ubuntu, there are some minor problems with the fingerprint use. - The fingerprint reading is way too accurate. 1 out of 3 the fingerprint reads correctly. Maybe this is good on security standards. - The passwords keyring does not unlock if you log in with fingerprint. A popup will show to unlock the stored passwords keyring after you login. You need to log in back with your password (without fingerprint) and set a blank password on your keyring. -Everytime you do anything that needs your root password it will ask you for your fingerprint (even in the terminal). If you do not want to swipe your fingerprint you need to wait some seconds to timeout and then input your password. I think that the fingerprint integration in ubuntu has not matured to a level of reliability like in windows, but is nice to have your hardware working 100% and everything can be used. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/827669 Title: [138a:0018] Validity Sensors fingerprint reader not recognized To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libfprint/+bug/827669/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ok guys I have built a deb package for 64 bit systems. After you download the package i attached you just need to sudo dpkg -i and it will install the driver. If you want the integrated ubuntu fingerprint features for login and sudo, apt-get install fprintd libpam-fprintd. Then go to users and you will see the fingerprint login button option. Enroll your fingerprint and voila! The only annoiance is that on the longin screen when it askes for your fingerprint the process isnt like windows. You swipe your finger and if the fingerprint is recognised it will display a login button you have to click. The problem lies on the facebook app. This app was removed on facebook and because gwibber need this facebook app to do sign in and update people status, it doesnt work. In the last hour i tried to recreate again this bug. Fresh installed 12.04 with shipped kernel 3.2.0-23, installed the broadcom sta wireless driver and tested the hotkeys. Were all ok with the on-screen events working and the super hybrid key working as well. Next i ran update manager and it installed the new 3.2.0-24 kernel. Rebooted as indicated in update manager and when the system booted up the hotkeys became messed up. Only on-screen events for brightness, no sound control and no super hybrid engine key. Curious thing was instead i made another reboot, i completely shut down the computer and then powered on. After booting hotkeys were ok with new kernel. It seems that after the installation of the 3.2.0-24 kernel the system needs compete shutdown and not just a reboot. System is fully working untill now and i will test it further in the next hour or so. I can confirm that the eeepc hotkeys are working flawlessly with new updated kernel 3.2.0-24 provided by update manager but indeed there is need to do a complete system shutdown after the update process to bring back the hotkeys working. Jupiter applet is working ok and i made a couple of reboots and shutdowns and the hotkeys are working in order. But there is indeed a bug somewhere because a shutdown is needed for the hotkeys to work and not just the reboot process suggested by the update manager. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/989859 Title: 3.2.0-24 kernel on 12.04 doesnt detect eeepc hotkeys To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/989859/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
