[Bug 1445041] [NEW] Can HAVE_LDAP_INITIALIZE be defined by default?
Public bug reported: Hello, I'm not sure if this is a bug or a wishlist item. I'm having issues upon bootup with a service daemon freezing (ntpd in this case). I think the problem would go away (not necessarily fixed but no longer seen at least) if libnss-ldap was built with HAVE_LDAP_INITIALIZE defined (in config.h.in). Since OpenLDAP libraries are a depneds for libnss-ldap, and since OpenLDAP has ldap_initialize() (and ldap_init() while we're at it), then why not activate these features by default? I can provide lots of information about my particular problem symptoms with ntpd if needed. # lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS Release:14.04 # # apt-cache policy libnss-ldap libnss-ldap: Installed: 264-2.2ubuntu4.14.04.1 Candidate: 264-2.2ubuntu4.14.04.1 Version table: *** 264-2.2ubuntu4.14.04.1 0 500 http://my_apt_server/staging/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 264-2.2ubuntu4 0 500 http://my_apt_server/staging/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages # What I expected to happen: No connection be made to an LDAP server due to a call to initgroups() by a process whose uid/username is listed in nss_initgroups_ignoreusers in the /etc/ldap.conf file. [Bug 823366] Re: bond_primary is ignored in /etc/network/interfaces
Actually, the original post without the auto bond0 is from mar_rio. I'm the second person reporting the bug. I assumed that you didn't put auto bond0 because we've been quoting the README as authoritative and it doesn't have the auto for the bond. To reproduce the original bug I simplified my interfaces file to (only IPs have been changed): -- auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto bond0 iface bond0 inet static bond_slaves eth0 eth1 bond_mode active-backup bond_primary eth1 bond_miimon 100 bond_updelay 2000 address 192.168.1.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 -- So, if I keep auto bond0 and change my interfaces file to: -- auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto bond0 iface bond0 inet static bond_slaves none bond_mode active-backup bond_primary eth0 bond_miimon 100 bond_updelay 2000 address 192.168.1.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 auto eth0 iface eth0 inet manual bond_master bond0 bond_mode active-backup bond_primary eth0 bond_miimon 100 bond_updelay 2000 auto eth1 iface eth1 inet manual bond_master bond0 bond_mode active-backup bond_primary eth0 bond_miimon 100 bond_updelay 2000 -- Then I still have no primary after a reboot. What I think is happening is the following: If the order that the interfaces come up is bond0, eth0, eth1 then the primary will be set: ifup bond0: creates bond0 (from add_master()); no primary is set (from setup_master() with no slaves); no slaves are added (from enslave_slaves() with bond_slaves = none); bond0 comes UP (but probably not LOWER_UP yet) ifup eth0: sees that bond0 is already created (from add_master()); should fail to set mode but continue anyway (from setup_master() with bond0 already up); no primary is set (from setup_master() with no slaves); eth0 is added as slave (from enslave_slaves() with bond_slaves = eth0); eth0 comes UP and LOWER_UP which should cause bond0 to come LOWER_UP; ifup eth1: sees that bond0 is already created (from add_master()); should fail to set mode but continue anyway (from setup_master() with bond0 already up); primary is set to eth0 (from setup_master() with eth0 as slave); eth1 is added as slave (from enslave_slaves() with bond_slaves = eth1); eth1 comes UP and LOWER_UP; If the order that the interfaces come up is bond0, eth1, eth0 then the primary will not be set: ifup bond0: creates bond0 (from add_master()); no primary is set (from setup_master() with no slaves); no slaves are added (from enslave_slaves() with bond_slaves = none); bond0 comes UP (but probably not LOWER_UP yet) ifup eth1: sees that bond0 is already created (from add_master()); should fail to set mode but continue anyway (from setup_master() with bond0 already up); no primary is set (from setup_master() with no slaves); eth1 is added as slave (from enslave_slaves() with bond_slaves = eth1); eth1 comes UP and LOWER_UP which should cause bond0 to come LOWER_UP; ifup eth0: sees that bond0 is already created (from add_master()); should fail to set mode but continue anyway (from setup_master() with bond0 already up); no primary is set (from setup_master() with only eth1 as slave); eth0 is added as slave (from enslave_slaves() with bond_slaves = eth0); eth0 comes UP and LOWER_UP; I would guess that moving the following code from setup_master() over to the end of enslave_slaves() will fix the problem: # The first slave in bond-primary found in current slaves becomes the primary. # If no slave in bond-primary is found, then primary does not change. for slave in $IF_BOND_PRIMARY ; do if grep -sq \\$slave\\ /sys/class/net/$BOND_MASTER/bonding/slaves ; then sysfs $slave primary break fi done Note: If that does fix the problem then moving the IF_BOND_ACTIVE_SLAVE section is probably also a good idea but not related specifically to this bond_primary bug report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823366 Title: bond_primary is ignored in /etc/network/interfaces To manage
[Bug 823366] Re: bond_primary is ignored in /etc/network/interfaces
Regarding comment #9: Maybe there is some type of race condition that could cause the bug but I have many servers that had never shown this bug. And regardless of any possible race condition, the SRU guarantees that the bug will appear. Regarding comment #8 and #9: I tried the config as suggested by Steve and unfortunately it makes things worse. bond0 doesn't even come up. Since bond0 no longer has an auto bond0 stanza, I see nothing in if-pre-up.d/ifenslave which would bring up bond0. Also, the README mentions: The master interface will be created and set up at the time the first slave is set up, according to bond_* options in the *slave* stanza. For this reason, in order to get consistent results, the values of all the bond_* options should be identical in the master stanza and in all the possible slave stanzas. but your example does not do this (I don't think this has anything to do with the problem but I mention it just in case). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/823366 Title: bond_primary is ignored in /etc/network/interfaces To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifenslave-2.6/+bug/823366/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I remember when Gnome developers* built a rocket and visited the moon, brought back a whole ton of cheese. I tell you one thing that'll stop people using Unity... if it doesn't actually work. Hardware issues are a lot more pressing that design issues, especially now that the design is much more demanding on the hardware. Maybe, although there's a lot of press going on about this. People have been critical about Ubuntu doing things they didn't like before, though, and eventually they just eat it. Significantly this time, I've found several issues that make me worry that Ubuntu might get away with squashing Gnome-shell: - I've played with both back and forth now for a while, and Gnome-Shell is clearly better; people on-line are telling me the same thing. Still, both are leaving me confused as to where a lot of settings went (mostly, the appearance-related theming stuff; is everything now going to be dark colors and blues like some cheap sci-fi flick?), and both have a learning curve. Unity seems to have no distinction between running applications and applications you can run, which ... honestly just makes me want to find the smart phone company that the Ubuntu Developers are working for now and burn it down with them in it. Abstracting away the concept of whether an application is already running or not is horrible. - Installing Gnome3 from the PPA really does completely hose the system; after that, Unity and Gnome-classic break, only Gnome-shell works, and Gnome-shell doesn't work with my ATi card (it skews the contents of windows diagonally, ad uselessness). Imagine that, I ignored the warnings and something bad happened. Like I said, Ubuntu is Microsofting gnome-shell. They're using their market clout to squash a product that's better than theirs. I'm waiting to see Canonical try to absorb the GNOME team. Also I don't like that I can't write anything in python that looks like Unity, I have to write it all in C and talk directly to OpenGL, which is messy. If I tried to use Gnome3 then I'd end up having to write in javascript, which I hate for no apparent reason. Oh woe! Won't someone let me write cool stuff in python? Hi Serge, Thanks for looking into this. I am using amd64 so I'll try out the fix. Using once did not work for me even if there wasn't a valid OS on the hard drive. I'm OK with an importance of low, I was using the workaround of simply stopping the qemu-kvm after the first boot of -boot order=n and starting it again with -boot order=c. If needed i can downgrade the evolution to get the backtrace but as it is fixed now with the new version being 2.30.2-1ubuntu2 I am unsure how to proceed. Please advise. [Bug 623794] [NEW] evolution address book has quit unexpectedly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Ubuntu Version: 10.10 maverick Program: Evolution Version: 2.30.2-0ubuntu11 Problem: I have had this problem since trying evolution, previous versions too, with our groupwise mail system. [Bug 623794] Re: evolution address book has quit unexpectedly
I Am not sure if this is what your looking for, I have tried to run gdb for evolution but don't see any information for the address book segfaulting. There is no executable evolution-data-server but the log attached is for the /usr/lib/evolution/e-addressbook-factory If there is anything else i can try to give more information. This seems to have been a problem for a while, i thought the newer version of evolution would maybe fix it. ** Attachment added: gdb log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/623794/+attachment/1518592/+files/gdb-evolution-e-addressbook-factory.txt.gz -- evolution address book has quit unexpectedly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/623794 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am new to launchpad; please forgive me if I'm not following the right protocol, but I think this is the best way for me to get some help. The nasty bit: I'm using the CentOS 5.3 distro.
