Re: [ubuntu-in] [x-posted]: configuring pppoeconf in Ubuntu 7.04 - Installed
if one is using the internal dialer of the modem to connect (say on xp, considering a dual booting system), pppoeconf does not work . that is what i have learnt. however, you could use the internal dialer on xp , but to set up net on linux> "you dont need pppoe if you're running with modem's internal dialer. in that case the modem acts as a router. so just set your ip addr to 192.168.1.100, gateway and dns to 192.168.1.1. that'll do. the pppoeconf is only supposed to be used when your modem's internal dialer does not work. use it as a last option." my friend had suggested me this sometime ago and after a little messing , it worked :D On 9/21/07, Gaurish Sharma <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > > On 9/20/07, Roshan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > > List, > > > > It is a very /ajeeb/ problem. [ubuntu-in] [x-posted]: configuring pppoeconf in Ubuntu 7.04 - Installed
List, It is a very /ajeeb/ problem. And I am not able to understand what's causing it. My friend's computer is an old one (>4 years) has 256 MB of RAM and Ubuntu 7.04 installed without problems. Since, he uses a software called "raspppoe" on Windows XP, I started pppoeconf after booting into the LIVE CD. I managed to configure the internet connection by answering a few questions in the wizard and voila! However, now after installing Ubuntu 7.04, he tried running pppoeconf and configured it. Though the terminal says "rs-ppp loaded" (or something similar), the browser (Firefox) still displays "Server not found". I asked him to modify /etc/resolv.conf with an OpenDNS IP address. Didn't help! I'm not sure if IPv6 is enabled. (How do I disable it?) On ubuntu forums, one killed "dhclient" service which was causing a problem to him. What are the files (config files) created / edited by pppoeconf? (Couldn't find this in manpage) -- ubunturos @ freenode Travelling to a new city? Search for ATMs in that city.
