I did some investigation on option 'b' above.  Attached is a bunch of
doc on how i did that.

The summary is we can exploit bug 1508975 to make all maas ppc64el users
to start getting hwe-v instead of hwe-t by default by deleting the
'com.ubuntu.maas.daily:v2:boot:14.04:amd64:hwe-t' from existance.  The
next time 'import' runs in maas, the 'hwe-v' kernel would be used for
enlistment and commissioning.

That would have some interesting consequences, though:
i. Users will get systems installed with hwe-w.
  Curtin assumes booting with hwe-N means installation of hwe-N is desired.

ii. When hwe-w arrives it will automatically be used.
  I have not verified this, but I suspect that when 'hwe-w' arrives in stream 
data, then boot and enlistment would then magically move to using hwe-w, and 
then again with hwe-x.  This assumption is based on the fact that my test 
deletion of hwe-t resulted in use of hwe-v rather than hwe-u (newest rather 
than oldest).  I'
  That moving probably ends in hwe-x , and thus after 2016.05 as hwe-x is last 
kernel for trusty.

iii. Users who were happy with hwe-t (kvm guests) will need manual action for 
install of hwe-t
  As a user, the "hwe-kernel ride" above seems a necessary evil at best.  
However, its not necessary for those on virtual hardware.  hwe-t works well 
there and as a result is probably the recommended path for a user in a virtual 
machine.  Those users would now have to manually 'apt-get install linux-generic 
&& reboot' after installation to get that kernel.

That being said, it seems like this is a fairly short window.  hwe-w is here, 
so we'll only move from hwe-w to hwe-x and then back to normal.   And only 
affects P8, where the intersection of MaaS + KVM/P8 seems likely a low number 
of affected users.

program and type : sudo chkrootkit
according to relevent websites i found this error occurs because ssh didn't use 
implement -g so chkrootkits method of this rootkit is no longer valid.  par the

If you run the "ssh -G" test in above links, you could be scared. But 
the commit (link to github) seems to show that a new ssh option has been 
introduced since the testing command line :

So this command does not return any error message, so you should
get "System infected" in your terminal...

I checked the sizes of the libraries (2nd link), ran ipcs
commands and everything seemed to be ok.

What do you think about this stuff ? Should I run some
additional tests ?

I have removed the patch from comment #4.  Running with the vmhgfs
driver from the 9.10.2 code can result in data corruption.  The backport
of the driver from 10.0.0 to 9.10.3 resolves the data corruption issue
as well as addressing the kernel compilation failures for 4.1 and 4.2
kernels.

As noted in comment #7, the 9.10.3 code has been tested by VMWare
against 15.10 with the 4.2.0-16 kernel.

Important announcements

**Region Controller now running on twisted.**
 The MAAS Region Controller is now running as a twisted daemon. It is
 no longer dependent on Apache in order to run. The MAAS Region
 controller is now controlled by ``maas-regiond`` upstart job or systemd
 unit. The ``maas-regiond`` daemon is available in port ``5240``.

**Firewall ports for Region and Cluster controller communication**
 The communication between Region and Cluster controller is now limited
 to use the ports between ``5250`` and ``5259``. For all of those users who
 are using a remote cluster (not running on the same machine as the
 MAAS Region Controller), need to ensure that these ports are open in
 the firewall.

**Web UI Re-design**
 MAAS now includes a newly re-designed Web UI. The new Web UI features
 a new design and a lot of usability improvements.  Some of the UI new
 features include:

 * Live Updating

   The new UI now allows users to view the current status of the
   various nodes of MAAS in real-time and without having to manually
   refresh the browser.

 * Bulk Actions

   Quickly select multiple nodes or devices and perform actions. If
   nodes or devices are not in a state where that action can be
   performed MAAS will alert you to the machines allowing you to
   modify your selection before performing the action.

 * Live Searching

   View the matching nodes or devices as you search. Just type and the
   nodes will start to filter, no reloading or waiting for the page to
   load.

 * Better Filtering

   Easily filter through the list of nodes and devices in MAAS to find
   the specific nodes that match your search. Examples:

   * All nodes that are Ready and have at least 2 disks::

  status:Ready disks:2

   * All nodes that are not Ready::

   * All nodes that have Failed to complete an action::

This is not a bug, it's a broken installation.  You are missing the following 
file:
10月 17 13:25:37 sailor nginx[6608]: nginx: [emerg] open() 
"/etc/nginx/mime.types" failed (2: No such file or directory) in 
/etc/nginx/nginx.conf:26

That's installed usually but it sounds like it didn't get installed in
your installation.  Start by purging everything nginx - this may include
flavors you don't have installed, but this is done just to make sure
it's gone: sudo apt-get purge nginx nginx-core nginx-common nginx-full
nginx-extras nginx-light

Then, install nginx with this command: sudo apt-get install nginx-common
nginx-core nginx

This should then resolve the start problem.

the one option that has been floated that i didnt list above is:
 c. lie in data and make 'hwe-t' product contain the hwe-u (or hwe-v) kernel
 this is less than ideal because it seems almost certain that at some point 
someone will expect quite reasonably that they're using hwe-t and they're not.
