Public Apology to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Singapore

2011-04-30 Thread Singapore Citizen Mr. Teo En Ming (Zhang Enming) 张恩鸣
I was misconstrued as having insulted Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. My
words were twisted and misinterpreted and I feel that there is a need to
explain myself and set the record straight.

What really happened

It was sometime in Aug/Sep in the year 2009. The setting was in the
Tampines Central office of Asiasoft Online Pte Ltd. I was having a
***verbal*** conversation with Melvin Lee, my new I.T. department
manager, when he challenged me to complete an I.T. assignment within a
specified period of time. In response to his challenge, I replied in
Mandarin: "If I cannot complete the I.T. assignment within a specified
period of time, then Lee Kuan Yew is wang ba dan". I used to be fond of
using other people's names to "bet" with people but now no more. The
Minister Mentor's name came into my mind spontaneously and I used it to
"bet" with my I.T. department manager.

Explanations

1. It was not my intention to insult the Minister Mentor at that time.
Please note the use of the IF... THEN... statement in my verbal
conversation.

2. I did not know wang ba dan [hanyu pinyin] means bastard at all until
I consulted Goh Meng Seng much later.

I would like to apologize to the Minister Mentor and the Prime Minister
of Singapore if I have offended them in any way. I swear it was not my
intention to insult the Minister Mentor. Please forgive me for using
your name carelessly to "bet" with my former I.T. department manager.

Yours sincerely,

Singapore Citizen Mr. Teo En Ming (Zhang Enming) Dip BEng(Hons)

Re: More Problems [was: Re: Focusrite Saffire LE]

2008-06-01 Thread Ming
You might want to check the physical connections (firewire cables /
adapters, etc). I've had my Saffire LE plays mp3 for about an hour
non-stop ( on 48 KHz), without any problem :)
I'm using studio hardy 32 bit on Asus A8E notebook (which has Ricoh
firewire). The only problem I found is sometimes JACK failed to start,
but when I rearrange the cable position, it works again... so I
suspect that it's a problem with my cable. My notebook only have a
4-pin firewire, so I can't use the 6-to-6 pin firewire cable supplied
with Saffire LE. So I got myself a 6-to-4 pin firewire cable. It's
this cable that I suspect to have a low quality. Two weird things I
noticed about Saffire LE and JACK:
1. It just won't work on 44.1KHz, mine only works at 48 and 96 KHz.
2. I need to set the number of max I/O channel both to 64. QJackCtl's
max value of 32 just don't work, so I have to modify QJackCtl's config
file.

Hope it helps :)

How much is your budget actually (in US$ unit please :p)?

Studio-to-Go

2008-04-20 Thread Ming
http://www.studio-to-go.com/

Have the ubuntu-studio developers had a look at that one? :)
It's bootable (live CD), and it seemed that its full-version is going
to be available for free :D
I tried it yesterday, and it recognized my Saffire LE like magic :p I
didn't even need to edit any configuration files, kernel modules, JACK
parameters, bla..bla..bla... It just worked... I can see my Saffire's
multiple I/O in JACK connections window, as well as its MIDI I/O...
I hope this will inspire ubuntu-studio developers ;)
Regards,

Ming

Re: Creative & EMU

2008-03-31 Thread Ming
Thanks... that shed some light... ;)
One more thing, here's an excerpt from ALSA website:
http://alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Vendor-Creative_Labs

"Creative actively preventing support due to no datasheets being
released to ALSA developers."

and here's another one on the same page:

"Emu have supplied hardware sample and datasheets to the developer."

It seemed to me that Creative & EMU have different attitude toward
Open Source (Linux & ALSA in particular), and since EMU is a
subsidiary of Creative, isn't it contradictive? :(

Re: Two Questions?

I think it's very appropriate... ;) I'm also wondering about that and
why doesn't ubuntu studio have a graphical installer & bootloader (as in JAD
- Jack Audio Distribution)?

Creative & EMU

2008-03-30 Thread Ming
I'm a bit confused about those two brand names, are they related in
any way? I've seen EMU products in creative-lab's website & in EMU's
site, I've seen photos of their soundcard have a "creative lab"
printed on it. There was someone in this list that said that creative
soundcards have a bad latency, does that applies to EMU cards too? I'm
looking to get myself an EMU 0404 USB, any comment on that card?
Regards,

Ming
