[ubuntu-studio-users] Showcase and Interviews

2015-11-24 Thread set
Hi List,

I'm in the midst of producing a showcase for Ubuntu-Studio users
production to be published in a series of posts on ubuntustudio.org and
its social-media satellites. The idea is to let the public know what can
be accomplished with Ubuntu-Studio by showing, rather than telling.
Therefor the series will be focusing on _productions_ made using
Ubuntu-studio and the _creative human behind the productions_.

The term production here is very broad; it can be anything from poems,
to prints, websites, via video, music and coding.

I would like to interview as many of you as possible, but depending on
the volume of response, i might not have the time to feature you all and
will work in the chronological order i receive the emails. However,
production that is Not Safe For Work will be disregarded. The interviews
will be done by email, and will consist of 3 to 4 questions about You
and your production.

If you are interested in participating, please address me on
pub...@sakrecoer.com and make sure you include links to your work in the
email.

*Do not send me attached files by email.*

Looking forward to see-, hear-, feel your work and to talk to you,

2010-04-15 Thread laurent.bellegarde
Hi all,

The result of the Ubuntu Showcase for Lucid are available here, a friend
of ubuntu-fr give me the adress :

http://fridge.ubuntu.com/node/2002

He told me that the results are known since 15 days, I'm a bit suprised
not to be advised of them, as my adress was on the contest list. That's
a lack which should be modified in future showcase.

Each submission cannot be larger than 1MB in size.
Hi Eric,
I was wondering what the standard file size for a 3-4min song in ogg vorbis
is? I have a song that I would love to submit but is 100+MB in 48khz .wav, I
haven't mixed down again in ogg yet but will soon. Even down sampled to
44.1khz .mp3 my 3min song is 4.5MB. Will they enforce this 1MB limit and
expect a 1-2min peice of music?
Thank you for your time,

AFAIK they will enforce the 1Mb rule. they have very limited space on the CD
so the file needs really to be 1 MB or less... so make a soundscap or
something :D

Back in the 90ies some of my friends where very much into
underground-grindcore 7-vinyls. Records invented for 10 minutes playing
time at best that where filled with at least a few hundred songs with
2 or 5 seconds(!!) playing time each. A band playing a tune longer than
30 seconds was considered stadium-rock whimps...

Maybe I could do a little retro-session remembering these good old
times. 20 tracks in 1MB with 192kbps should not be a problem ;-)

The CD we're talking about is the Ubuntu install CD. The winner of the
contest (one in each category) will have their work installed to every
user's home directory as free content. I think it would be pretty sweet to
have some grindcore stuff loaded on everyone's system, but I'm not too sure
if that would win the prize.

The CD we're talking about is the Ubuntu install CD.

Uhh hoo -I mixed it up again ;-)

of course the example-data on the install-CD must be as short as possible...

But at the other hand...

Having a few dozen grindcore-tracks could be used to show a
playlist-feature quite well ;-) ;-)

Linux Day - UbuntuStudio showcase

2008-10-01 Thread Sergio Bello
Hi all.

October 25th here in Cremona (Italy) there will be a Linux Day at the
local engineering university and,
as a member of the local Linux User Group, I will showcase UbuntuStudio
as a DAW.

I'm planning my speech (in an early stage, at the moment), and I'm
calling for
ideas/(sonic)material/suggestions/etc.

To give you an idea of what I have in mind, my target is to illustrate
audio routing via
Jack and then - as a demonstration - record 'on the fly' an 8/16-bar
song with Ardour using:

 I. Hydrogen with a pre-built drum track
II. Rosegarden + (hw|sw) synth with a pre-built bass line
III. Rosegarden + guitar synth to capture and then play via MIDI the
harmonic progression
IV. my lovin' Gibson H. Roberts Fusion + JackRack for soloing

My gear:

 I. M-Audio 1010
II. Behringer patch panel
III. Various rack/pedal effects (but I think they're unnecessary in
this context)
IV. Roland DS-5 studio monitors
 V. Electric/synth guitars
VI. Roland JV 1010 + GR 50 synth rack modules
VII. A fast, full of memory PC with UbuntuStudio 8.04
VIII. Everything else if available at the local music store and in
line with my pocket ;)

As I said before, any suggestion to better introduce UbuntuStudio to the
audience is welcome.
Much more useful would be pointers to, for example, good Hydrogen
tracks/MIDI tracks/JackRack suites/SoundFonts
available on the net, so to cut my effort: I'm really busy with my work
as a developer, so I'm not
currently 100% on this task (and I need to stretch my fingers on the
guitar, too...).

Thanks in advance,

Sergio
