Re: [Affects over 30 languages] ISOLINUX problems with translations; F1-F6 Options

2012-05-14 Thread Arjuna Rao Chavala
Hi,

I reviewed Telugu translation and found them to be of reasonable size.
Having said that, text console support for Indian languages is not fully
functional. It is better for the initial boot screen to use English.

 Please check your translations.
As these fixes are not going to go into Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, they may go into
 12.10 or elementary luna (see

It was far too late for this cycle:

 Hi Arjun,

Ubuntu is an Open Source project, and we can only succeed with help from
the community. Rather than hoping, my advice would be to file a bug.

I used that statement, as I do not know how much the final version will be
different from beta. I am still a newbie withregard to ubuntu builds. I
will file a bug if required after I verify the package list for dvd
distribution.

 Hi,

Was searching Launchpad and the repos for LibreOffice icelandic lang-pack

LibreOffice UI is already translated to Icelandic (at 99.8% - LO-help is
only 13% translated) and available for download at

Are there any formalities before a language is accepted in the Ubuntu repos
 ?

What I realised from my trials of beta 1 for Telugu is that, Ubuntu uses
internet connection to download the packs that are not put in the dvd and
confgure it based on language settings.

I am also looking for a DVD build, which has all the language related packs
preconfigured.

 Hi Oier,

 I think that's what you're looking for:

 http://people.canonical.com/~dpm/langpacks-by-inst.html

Interesting to learn that the count for Telugu is 2534. But I feel that not
more than 20 people use Telugu as UI, based on my experience on linux
mailing lists and interaction with users. Does this statistic record
installation of a language pack rather than usage?

 Hi All,

with regard to the latest announcement made by David in the list, I would
 like
to submit to you my humble ideas about a new structure for Ubuntu
 translations
 in Launchpad.

The idea is very simple: splitting the Ubuntu translation structure from
 one
single branch into, at least, 4 branches with eventual derivative sub-
branches. The reason is to have a more rational structure in which
 translators
can easily individuate and manage packages to translate.
