Hi,

Im trying to run a DVLA driving test CD. I read somewhere i need to install 
wine and that will just play it?

Am i right? if not what should i do?

Wine is a windows api emulator so it is a little more involved than
that but you are getting the right idea

once wine is installed you need to install the app and then run it though wine.

If the CD has a .exe program on you'll need wine, even then, it may  
not work. If it's just video it'll play fine.

its not just a videoits like they have at the test centrefour 
options..click on the right one! you may or may not know what im talking 
bout!

it says it installs but i cant find the folder its just not there! hmmm

If you open a Terminal session (Applications/Accessories/Terminal), type:

cd ~/.wine/drive_c/

If you cd to the Program Files directory or wherever it installed to,
you can load the program via wine from there.  Tab completion works
well (typing part than pressing the Tab key), but remember that it is
case sensitive, so make sure you get the case correct.

If you type:

ls

you will see the files in the folder.  Just like the Windows dir command.

All OS have a few problems, like this weekend, I spent most of  
Saturday evening trying to help a friend get their laptop to play  
google videos, they were using XP.

Have you tried using xine to play them? It's what I use on my Ubuntu  
laptop which has a very low spec graphics chip.

You might need the win32 codecs too, check out the forum, there's a  
great link there for easy installing them.
