I've had a voip hard phone for years, but no-one else I know has one (including the techs), as most of them have mobiles which have hundreds of free cross-network minutes included. So why mess about with voip/Skype/etc... -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/

For calling landlines, Skype is very expensive compared to VOIP-SIP providers such as www.sipgate.co.uk or www.webcalldirect.com (which has 300 minutes a week of inclusive landline calls, to most of the Western world, providing you deposit at least 6 quid every 3 months). I wrote a HowTo on setting up a Linux-powered VOIP-SIP router, the Linksys SPA3102 (40 quid), so you can make free/cheap calls from your existing BT landline using normal BT extensions and handsets, whilst still receiving incoming calls on your existing BT number. http://www.aoakley.com/articles/2008-01-08.php -- Andrew Oakley -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/

[ubuntu-uk] Skype 2.0 beta
I've just done a package update and found I had 2 updates for Skype. When I loaded it I noticed it was version 2.0 (beta), which means webcam support :) Tried it with my Logitech webcam and it detects it, just need to do a live test now. -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/
