2011-08-09 Thread Praveen
Public bug reported:

As Ubuntu Unity 11.04 did not work on Intel 865GVHZ boards...I was disappointed
a bit.
Now oneric ocelot has started supporting Intel 8xx boards...That's a great news.
But still the graphics is not appealing and sometimes I see incomplete windows

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 807584] Re: Oneiric alpha 2 live session freezes on startup

2011-08-09 Thread Jussi Pakkanen
I can't do that because I can't launch a terminal, switching to text
console does not work and you can't ssh in the machine.

However, X itself is not frozen. I can move the mouse, activate top
panel thingies and so on. Pressing the power button shuts down the
machine cleanly.

I have run apport-collect on this machine many times and the data can be
found in e.g. bug 801034.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744187] Re: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mhd

2011-08-09 Thread kanub
after fresh installation of Linux Mint XFCE 11 (or Lubuntu 11.04) on
Acer Travelmate 240 screen stays blank after boot

solution:
$ sudo nano /etc/default/grub
add i915.modeset=0 in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT (nomodeset is working too)
(source:
http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2010/05/06/ubuntu-10-04-lucid-blank-screen-at-startup-workaround/
)

I get terrible display glitches on boot (bios logo and previous login
screen with lots of random noise = uncleared graphics memory?)

setpci and acpi_osi = Linux + backlight did not work for me

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 823170] [NEW] Same as bug #362359

2011-08-09 Thread David Ireland
Public bug reported:

Bug #362359 is reported as fixed, however I have seen the same symptoms on
lucid, maverick and now natty.
running Natty in classic mode with compiz on. HP pavilion dv6000 series. Focus
gets locked to a window after indeterminate time, usually during any activity
requiring keyboard as well as mouse input. Only fix seems to be reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777950] Re: Adobe Flash performance extremly slow using ATI fglrx driver

2011-08-09 Thread noobish
I saw this behavior with catalyst 11.5 (fglrx 8.850) on HD 4290. I
updated to catalyst 11.7 (fglrx 8.872) and at the same time updated to
flash 11 beta.

After restarting firefox I still had the slow performance, so I have to
conclude that it was the fglrx upgrade that resolved it, since I didn't
see the speed improvement until after rebooting with the new kernel
module.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-08-09 Thread damormino
Alpha 3 or Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit has this problem. After a standard
installation, NVIDIA version 280.13 is being used. And NVIDIA X Server
Settings is also installed.

The Additional Drivers dialog says No proprietary drivers are in use and
offers NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current).

Selecting Activate gives dialog error: SystemError: E:Error,
pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held
packages.

Here are the last few messages from /var/log/jockey.log:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 816337] Re: [i965gm] False GPU lockup EIR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000100

2011-08-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
Matthew Paul Thomas - I've forwarded this bug upstream to
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39962 - please subscribe
yourself to this bug, in case they need further information or wish you
to test something.

In general, these false gpu lockups aren't something we're terribly
worried about; the only user-visible effect is the apport popup and we
turn that off for release. However, it does hint at something being not
quite right under the hood in how the system is loading up the kernel
video driver; I've chatted with apw about this and we investigated a few
ideas but the fact that it still is happening means those fixes weren't
sufficient, so I'm forwarding it upstream to see if we can get some
additional ideas or advice.

Theoretically we could probably suppress the error dialog, however this
potentially could mask real bugs, so I'd prefer leaving apport as is and
hope this issue gets sorted out eventually.

If you file additional bug reports on this same issue, please go ahead
and dupe those reports to this report, which we'll use as the master for
your issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 775060] Re: Random GUI freezes in Natty (can only move the cursor)

2011-08-09 Thread Kiril
One day without freezing. Seems it was a kernel-side issue and it has been
already fixed.
Try: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.0.1-oneiric/
You need new network manager for new kernel: ppa:network-manager/trunk

I had a time when the issue wouldn't show up for a week or so. Maybe it

2011-08-09 Thread Kiril
With stock kernel I can reproduce my issue less then in a hour.
And this is ubuntu's mainline repo.

Seems I have a bit different error with same result, but you may try.
You can always boot to stock kernel.

I hope this testing result will point ubuntu kernel team to backport
driver changes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 823576] [NEW] [Inspiron 1122/M102z] External video severely corruped (as is primary display)

2011-08-09 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Testing Oneiric Alpha 3 on an inspiron 1122 with an ATI chipset. using
the OSS driver included in Ubuntu works until you try using an external
monitor. With either external VGA or HDMI out, the external monitor
displays just a bunch of corruption, nothing discernible at all, and
worse, the primary display (onboard panel) gets a large Bar of
Corruption across the top of the desktop just below the panel.

I also tried using the proprietary driver, but that made things even
worse. With the proprietary driver, the entire system was unusable.
I'm opening a separate bug on that issue.

For this bug, external video is completely unusable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 823588] [NEW] ATI driver suggested by Jockey makes system unusable

2011-08-09 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Testing Oneiric Alpha 3 on an Insprion 1122 with an ATI video card. I
had issues with screen corruption when connecting an external display
using the OSS driver, so I opened Jockey and tried using the Proprietary
driver instead.

This was even worse, however, because I was almost unable to use the
system while the proprietary driver was loaded. I had to drop to a
shell and use jockey-text to remove it before I could use the system
again.

So, the proprietary driver that Jockey is suggesting for ATI cards in
Oneiric Alpha 3 breask the system. The driver needs to be fixed, or
blacklisted from Jockey so that users don't end up with an unusable
Oneiric system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 823603] [NEW] Updated NVIDIA drivers fail to support 1024 x 768 resolution

2011-08-09 Thread Leshy
Public bug reported:

System = UBUNTU 10.04.3 LTS

This has happened before - a few months ago. An additional update then
fixed the problem, after a short while. But nvidia-xconfig hasn't
solved the pb - the new config is lacking some supporting packages ..
So this time around, I'm running on 640-480, like back to DOS days. Can
anyone advize ?
