[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 872107] Re: nvidia-xconfig creates an unusable xorg.conf file
When I attempt to change NVIDIA options using nvidia-settings, I get the message "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your configuration file (Just run 'nvidia-xconfig' as root) and restart the X-server." When I do this, nvidia-xconfig creates a xorg.conf file which causes the computer to hang on reboot and I have to logon under safe mode and remove the offending xorg.conf file to get the computer to boot. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 872107] [NEW] nvidia-xconfig creates an unusable xorg.conf file
Public bug reported: This has got to be a stupid question. I'm installing Ubuntu 11.04 on a new computer that has a Dell 19" monitor plugged into the motherboard and a Dell 22" monitor plugged into an nVidia Quadro 600 video card. I cannot get both monitors to work at the same time. If both monitors are plugged in, only the 19" monitor works. If I unplug the 19" monitor, then the 22" monitor works. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591954] Re: Touchpad aspect ratio changes with TwinView
I'm observing this problem on a Dell Vostro V13 with Oneiric. The comments of bug #327428 mention that there is an option configurable through xinput that should disable the scaling, but either it doesn't work or I am not using xinput properly: gpothier@tadzim:adkintun$ xinput --list-props 12 |grep 'Resolution Detect' Synaptics Resolution Detect (305): 1 gpothier@tadzim:adkintun$ xinput --set-prop 12 305 0 gpothier@tadzim:adkintun$ xinput --list-props 12 |grep 'Resolution Detect' Synaptics Resolution Detect (305): 0 Where device 12 is my touchpad: gpothier@tadzim:adkintun$ xinput --list |grep Touch ⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPadid=12 [slave pointer (2)] So it does look like I successfully disabled the option, but I cannot see any change in touchpad behavior (horizontal sensitivity is still about 3 times as much as vertical sensitivity). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591954 Title: Touchpad aspect ratio changes with TwinView To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/591954/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 850923] Re: Two-finger scrolling is off by default
Not only has edge scrolling never been the default on Mac OS, it hasn't even been an option. It wouldn't really even make sense on the Magic Trackpad, firstly because it's so wide, and secondly because your finger would constantly be at risk of falling off the edge onto the desk. I'm not an expert on Windows trackpads. It may well be that they are so much smaller that edge scrolling makes more sense there. This problem was reported again in bug 861446 for MacBooks specifically. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/850923 Title: Two-finger scrolling is off by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/850923/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 802271 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/802271 @Richard Stellingwerff This bug is a duplicate of bug 802271, so you should post there instead. Your post here will likely be unseen, and ignored to the extent to which it is seen. It is strange that you are getting this on Natty, as this bug was specific to Oneiric (and was also fixed), so it might turn out to be a subtly different bug, but posting in bug 802271 is a good first step. I recommend against changing bug 802271's status without consulting others first (i.e., do not reopen that bug), because your issue may be more properly handled in a separate bug report. A Liyama 19" monitor is correctly detected on this second PC using 10.04, and is "Unknown" under 11.04. However, the correct 1280x1024 resolution is set. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871683] [NEW] Random crash, displaying single flashing window
Public bug reported: Every so often (intermittent, random, and long intervals between), X will crash, giving a lone window, in the middle of the screen, about the size of a standard dialog box (don't know the exact dimensions), which is flashing. That is to say, the window repeatedly closes and opens again, several times a second. The desktop background appears untouched, however the only fix I have found is to go into another TTY, and manually kill the X server from the command line, and restart. Note that this must start in another TTY (or does for me anyway), as the old TTY is now displaying status info. I am unsure how to replicate this bug, as I had only just booted, and was in the process of starting Chromium, as I normally do, when it happened. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871665] [NEW] Mouse pointer does not move correctly from a screen to another in a dual-head config - jumps too far
Public bug reported: I have two displays on my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS system, ATI Radeon RV620 LE, configured as individual screens (no xinerama). One is new and wide- screen, 1920x1200, and the other is older, running in 1600x1200. When I move the mouse cursor over the right edge of the left (1920x1200) screen, it appears on the right screen (1600x1200), but not at it's left edge, but at quite exactly 320 pixels (1920-1600!) away from the left edge. The same happens when I move the cursor back to the left screen - the cursor appears 320 pixels away from it's right edge. Here's a little video which shows the effect: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luk00_3XTpU The offset is quite exactly 320 pixels (I verified by creating a 320px wide image in gimp and using it as a scale in 1:1 mode). I am not sure which package I should point to, xorg, xserver-xorg-video- ati, or compiz. The problem appeared when I last upgraded to a new Ubuntu release, it used to work fine before that. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854967] Re: boot to rescue mode in Oneiric
Hi Steve, sorry for my late reply (I was at a sprint). I agree with your conclusions but I'd like to partially revert your changes. You removed a feature which allowed packagers to blacklist single card ids to prevent them from using the boot splash in case of nasty interactions with the NVIDIA driver. While the result is the same (i.e. the framebuffer is on by default), I restored the feature by putting back the relevant slave link which would simply point to a blacklist file that only shows how to disable nvidia cards (it's all commented out). ** Patch added: "0001-Restore-slave-link-to-grub-gfxpayload-file.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer-updates/+bug/854967/+attachment/2534427/+files/0001-Restore-slave-link-to-grub-gfxpayload-file.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/854967 Title: boot to rescue mode in Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/854967/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 871628] [NEW] Brightness doesn't work correctly on iMac5, 1
Public bug reported: The brightness slider on an iMac5,1 doesn't work correctly, that is, when moved it flickers through higher and lower brightness levels, some of then even turning the screen off while the slider is on the higher values. Also, when the screen sleeps the brightness goes off and the screen doesn't turn on again when I move the mouse, even though the system still works (is accessible via VNC).
