[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155501] Re: system hangs when switching between TTY and X (12.10)
Similar to bug #1069694. I have found out that the bug is somehow related to vgaswitcheroo. Here is a way to reproduce it (installing lm-sensors is welcome): 1. Let's say you have both integrated and discrete. Then, `cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch` should give you something like {{{0:DIS: :Pwr::01:00.0 1:IGD:+:Pwr::00:02.0}}} 2. If you `pm-suspend` now and resume, and then repeat step 1, you should see the same results. 3. If you now try to turn ON the discrete card it should work well, since it is already on and vgaswitcheroo is aware of this. 4. Now, turn discrete card off: `echo OFF /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch`. If you read the status, it shoul render {{{0:DIS: :Off::01:00.0 1:IGD:+:Pwr::00:02.0}}} 5. If you `pm-suspend` now and resume, you might get frozen screen. 6. If not, you can check vgaswitcheroo status, you'll see that discrete card is switched off: {{{0:DIS: :Off::01:00.0 1:IGD:+:Pwr::00:02.0}}} However, if you do `sensors` you'll see that discrete card reports it's temperature - that is, it is on. 7. Now, if you try to turn it on by `echo ON /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch` you'll probably get freeze. And since we know all this, we can create a workaround. Just make our discrete card turn on before suspend, and turn off in a few seconds after resume. In order to achieve this, just create file `/etc/pm/sleep.d/77_amd_toggle` with the following content: {{{#!/bin/bash # Script to disable and enable the discrete graphics card before suspend and after resume case ${1} in suspend) # We turn it on before resume to prevent bugs echo ON /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch ;; resume) # Your GFX would freeze if you turn off discrete card immediately, that's why this delay: sleep 3 # We turn it off after resume to save energy echo OFF /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch ;; esac}}} -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1155501 Title: system hangs when switching between TTY and X (12.10) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1155501/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

@jakub-o: It seems that there was an regression in kernel 3.9 which introduced this issue for certain users. Which kernel do you use at the moment ? Do you get a similar dmesg output ? If you want and have the knowledge you can test it yourself [1]. Also the Chromium guys proposed a patch similar patch [2] which could bring some improvement too. If you want you can build your own kernel using the patch [3]. For me it brought no improvement, but I would be good to get more test data for it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193873] Re: GPU hang on mesa blorp operation
i915_error_state attached. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1180881] Re: Touchscreen only works after suspend/resume on Lenovo ideapad P400 Touch
Doesn't seem to have anything to do with KVM. After turning on virtualization in BIOS to get kvm working the problem persists. Also updated to the latest kernel 3.9.7 and the problem persists. I don't consistently get functionality after suspending, and sometimes the touchscreen works immediately. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1191334] Re: Xorg freeze
Thank you for your reply. Ubuntu does not really have any viruses or spyware so the probability that someone has cracked your system is very. I tried googling the specifications of your laptop and it looks like that your computer does not have an internal bluetooth device. Therefore, it is much more probable that the system simply does not detect your hardware correctly. I'm linking the previous Xorg report to this report. Thanks. ** Description changed: - This time i didn't use the wireless mouse + A wrong hardware detection seems to crash Xorg. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1192908] Re: Mir/Mesa packaging have a dependency cycle so neither can build
Actually I will leave this open for Mesa. A more elegant solution may be possible in Mesa. For example: Make libEGL dynamically load its backend at runtime rather than linking to all backends (X11/Mir/Wayland/...) at build time. ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: Won't Fix = Triaged ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: mir Milestone: None = 0.0.4 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1192908 Title: Mir/Mesa packaging have a dependency cycle so neither can build To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1192908/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
