[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 858265] Re: No support for power management

2013-09-07 Thread madbiologist
Nouveau fan management is now available in the linux kernel, but it is
disabled by default for safety reasons. The developers are considering
enabling it by default in the 3.12 kernel. In the meantime, see
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/nouveau/linux-2.6/tree/Documentation/thermal/nouveau_thermal

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1222109] [NEW] package fglrx-updates 2:12.104-0ubuntu0.0.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2013-09-07 Thread Sjors Dekkers
Public bug reported:

I tried to install a non-beta driver for my ATI/AMD Radeon HD card via sudo
apt-get install fglrx, but Lubuntu didn't start it's GUI on boot any more.
Then, I tried to remove the driver via sudo apt-get remove fglrx. It didn't
help; Lubuntu wouldn't boot at all, it would just get stuck during booting.
With a live-CD I got Lubuntu to boot again, so that I could install the
previously-working fglrx-updates package. Now everything works again.
I let the other fields be automatically filled, because I haven't got a clue
what actually went wrong with which package, so the information in the other
fields might not be completely correct.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 858265] Re: No support for power management

2013-09-07 Thread dronus
I think it is totally ok for a driver in development to not support
power management until it is done.

But it IS very bad idea to ship this not-ready driver to the users for a
publisher like Ubuntu that targets a general audience. It just gives a
bad user experience to thousands. And Ubuntu is not ashamed of shipping
proprietary binary drivers, so for the nVidia drivers this would be
very useful to continue shipping the binary driver until Nouveau does
power management well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 210780] Re: MTRRs set up incorrectly with 4GB RAM - X slow

2013-09-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mika Fischer, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder,
but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel,
please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is
fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

** Tags removed: q45
** Tags added: hardy needs-kernel-logs needs-upstream-testing

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1222315] [NEW] ATI Rage IIc PCI card; X goes into crash loop at X start after boot

2013-09-07 Thread Sigurpáll Sigurðsson
Public bug reported:

So, I found in my drawer an old Rage IIc PCI card that I decided to put
into my Vectra VLi8, which is running Ubuntu quite good on its standard
10 gigabytes' main drive and 450 MHz Pentium III processor. The onboard
video adapter is a Matrox MGA200, which Ubuntu runs successfully on
without a single problem. Plugged the VGA into the good ol' Rage, boot,
and what do you know, X boots up a cursor and a purple background before
crashing. It then proceeds to try starting itself again, crashing in the
same manner, getting itself stuck in a loop.

Summary:
Card: ATI Rage IIc
Expected: Successful X start
Instead: X crashes repeatedly in a loop fashion

Sidenote: I'm not really experienced with Linux so I may need some help.
I hail from Windows.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
