[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 738526] Re: crash accessing font info with xfs in fontpath

2013-11-03 Thread V
According to the link:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2183029

I commented out from /etc/X11/xorg.conf :
#Section Files
# FontPath unix/:7100
#EndSection

to achieve a similar effect of uninstalling xfs
This seems to be another successful workaround. (Unless xfs is manually called
or something).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247534] [NEW] Problems about swapping mouse buttons

2013-11-03 Thread Xue Fuqiao
Public bug reported:

I use the following script to swap right-click and middle-click buttons:

  # swap middle and right button
  MY_MOUSE_ID=$(xinput list | grep Mouse | sed -r 's/.*id=([0-9]+).*/\1/')
  xinput --set-button-map ${MY_MOUSE_ID} 1 3 2

It can work, but after a while (about 30min-1h), the buttons
automatically swap back so I have to execute the commands again...

I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 (with xinput 1.6.0-1). It's a USB optical mouse.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247360] Re: setxkbmap set incorrect layer for swedish and alt-intl keyboards

2013-11-03 Thread sudodus
To make something clean I installed from Lubuntu_13.10oct30.tar.xz,
selected Swedish at the OEM finishing screen, added Swedish language,
set it system-wide. and rebooted.

The clock, pull down menus, letters in the terminal windows are Swedish,
for example åäö. but the issue with c is still there.

It behaves as described earlier

Acute accent + c prints ç in 12.04.3 but ć in 13.10

setxkbmap pt gives a keyboard where I get ç, where the US keyboard has ;
(semicolon), the key below p.

Hi Ronald

AFAICS there are two routes you/we can take this
* Find out which package update caused the breakage
* Disable AGP with nouveau (similar to what you did with the blob)

If you're going for the first one, here is a list of packages that you'll need
to check (other may not me related):
* xserver-xorg-core
* xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
* All *mesa*

The above can be rather messy and hard, as you'll need to track that the
dependencies are met and/or rebuild packages.

The latter route is much easier
* Append nouveau.agpmode=0 to your kernel command line (i.e. grub/lilo)

2_Attempt to resume (nouveau.agpmode=0)

Survives one cycle since I did this from SSH with `pm-hibernate`.
Apparently Xorg only locksup on resume because of xscreensaver if I
press the button in XFCE.

To confirm my hypotheses that disabling AGP has no effect I tried it
without kernel parameters that alter the driver's behaviour. Same
effect.

I tried your second suggestion, did not work(!).

- nouveau.agpmode=0 - crash
- agp=off - crash
- no kernel parameters - typing pm-hibernate from SSH - success(!) . Clicking
somewhere on desktop - crash (Only moving cursor did not make it crash).

I'm not totally against bisecting these source packages, but that will
then be a longterm thing. Furthermore, is all of mesa required? (i.e.
I'm not using a compositing desktop for that matter (just XFCE)).

Conclusion, it appears that disabling agp has no effect. Machine only
crashes after resume if the screen is

Have you experienced just one lockup, or have you had a series of these lockups?
- I had several lockups.

If you've had several, how often does it occur? Every few hours? Once or twice
a day? Couple times a week?
- Couple times a week.

When did you first notice it?
- Around a year ago.

Shortly after upgrading?
- Can't remember, could be after the 12.10 upgrade.

After updating?
- Don't think so.

After changing compositing (Desktop Effects) settings?
- Never changed these.

Under what conditions does it seem most likely to reproduce?
- Undetermined, it happens during normal OS usage. It doesn't seem to happen
when the laptop is idle.

Only at boot time?

When resuming from suspend or hibernate?
- I never suspend or hibernate the laptop.

Only when using compositing (Unity, et al)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247646] [NEW] Unable to boot Ubuntu (12.04 - 13.10) on MSI GT60

2013-11-03 Thread Raziel Gonzalez
Public bug reported:

I've been trying unsuccessfully to install Ubuntu on my new laptop for
about 3 months now.

When I try to boot Ubuntu (both UEFI and BIOS -legacy- modes) it always
stays on a black screen.

Booting with nomodeset option allows me to get to console pressing
Ctrl+Alt+F1. I tried to install bumblebee and nvidia 319 drivers with no
success.

If I try to manually start the GUI I get the same black screen.

The laptop has a dual graphics card (Intel HD 4600 and Nvidia GeForce
GTX 770M).

I saved Xorg.0.log which says that no screen is available although I
have the laptop and an external monitor connected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744187] [NEW] [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mh

2013-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

There is a problem with the intel driver kms in Natty which causes the screen's
backlight to switch off just after leaving the grub screen. Problem does not
exist with 10.10 but exists with virtually every other recent distro out there
(Opensuse 11.2 - 11.4, Fedora etc) which leads me to believe it's a bug
inherited from the upstream that was fixed in maverick.
The only way to boot the laptop successfully is by adding the nomodeset option,
which unfortunately results in no 3D nor the correct resolution.
I am currently back to maverick but I would love to use natty asap so thanks
for resolving the bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 671015] Re: [g45] Intel GMA 4500MHD

2013-11-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
c4r0nt3, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily
folder, but the one all the way at the bottom) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12-rc7

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.
