[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1309044] Re: Unity webapps crash Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on my computer

2015-01-28 Thread Chris Coulson
Basically, we should fall back to software compositing now and disable
things like WebGL, meaning that the only thread that accesses opengl is
the Qt render thread.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1309044] Re: Unity webapps crash Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on my computer

2015-01-28 Thread Chris Coulson
Is this still a problem with Oxide 1.4.2? We're populating the GPU info
now, which means that GPU feature blacklisting should work correctly and
all GPU features are currently blacklisted in Chromium for the nouveau
drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1307709] Re: webbrowser-app does not start in Unity 8 preview session

2014-06-06 Thread Chris Coulson
I think the reason this doesn't work is that the Mir EGL backend doesn't
support pbuffer surfaces, and Chromium relies on this (although it
doesn't actually draw to them - it creates a 1x1 pbuffer surface in
order to bind the context)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 925785] [NEW] Starting to scroll is erratic

2012-02-02 Thread Chris Coulson
Public bug reported:

Since the X transition in precise, scrolling is very erratic. When I
activate edge scrolling on my touchpad, the content I'm scrolling often
jumps by an unpredictable and large amount in either direction, before
scrolling correctly.

Other people have reported the same issue with mouse scrollwheels too,
so it doesn't seem to be touchpad specific.

This is easily triggered by using either of the other touchpad buttons
before scrolling. If I activate a scroll without touching any other
buttons, then it appears to work correctly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854986] [NEW] 5 second delay between Xorg starting and the greeter starting (Dell Latitude E6410)

2011-09-20 Thread Chris Coulson
Public bug reported:

I've been looking at our session startup time this week, and I've got
one of the big delays right down already (bug 854101). However, the next
biggest offender is Xorg (when starting a 2d session) - there appears to
be a ~5s delay between Xorg starting and the greeter loading.

You can see this in the bootchart attached.

Looking at the timestamps in my Xorg.0.log shows a pretty big delay just
here:

[15.583] (II) intel(0): Initializing HW Cursor
[18.030] (II) intel(0): RandR 1.2 enabled, ignore the following RandR
disabled message.

18 seconds matches up perfectly on the bootchart with the lightdm
greeter starting.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546578] Re: black screen after a few user switches

2010-05-17 Thread Chris Coulson
I suspect that most people here are experiencing the problem described
in https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
screensaver/+bug/555870/comments/11. However, I'd like to keep bug
555870 separate, as that is really reporting a separate issue, and I
should have put that comment in this bug report really.

For now, I'll probably disable fade-on-locking in gnome-screensaveer,
but keep the fade-on-idle effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546578] Re: black screen after a few user switches

2010-05-17 Thread Chris Coulson
Incidentally, I can demonstrate this quite reliably on my Intel box by
doing xgamma -gamma 0.5 from within my X session whilst it is active,
then switching to a VT and doing DISPLAY=:0.0 xgamma -gamma 1.0. On
karmic, the gamma goes back to the correct value in my X session on the
inactive VT, but it stays at 0.5 on lucid despite the X calls completing
successfully (note, this tests the XF86VM gamma fade only).

Sarvatt said on IRC that ATI and nouveau users are experiencing the same
behaviour too, it isn't limited to Ubuntu, and disabling fading fixes
it. My computer with the binary nvidia driver is not affected by this
though

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546578] Re: [RS480] black screen after a few user switches

2010-04-16 Thread Chris Coulson
Deven,

To get an xtrace log, please run the following in one terminal:

xtrace -d :0 -D :9 -k 21 | tee ~/xtrace.log

In another please run:
killall gnome-screensaver
DISPLAY=:9.0 gnome-screensaver

Replace :0 with the actual number of your X display, although :0 will
be correct if you are the first user to log in to the machine. If you're
unsure, please run env | grep DISPLAY | cut -d = -f 2 | cut -d . -f 1

Once you have this all running, please perform the steps which recreate
the issue. Once you have recreated it, please attach your xtrace log to
this bug report (note that xtrace is likely to produce a huge amount of
information)

***IMPORTANT***
The xtrace log will show any kepresses received by gnome-screensaver. If you
unlock your screen with your password whilst running gnome-screensaver with
xtrace, then it will be possible to extract your password from the log. In this
case, please compress the log to a tar.gz and e-mail it directly to me
(chris.coul...@canonical.com), and I will cut out the relevant parts to attach
to the bug report.

Thanks, but this change isn't needed as Xorg doesn't need to listen to
the acpid socket anyway (see bug 496859). The change will also block GDM

removed from the X server instead.

The top of the stack is the proprietary nvidia libGL.so. You don't need
to reboot for that. This is a common crasher in some atexit() handler
that the nvidia library registers, and we get lots of duplicates of the

then have to try and find the information.

Anyway, your logs show that Xorg is crashing, which is not a GDM bug:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 239621] Re: Screensaver disables visual effects

2009-12-10 Thread Chris Coulson
It's not a screensaver bug if compiz is crashing. And the information
you've provided shows that it is probably crashing somewhere in the
NVIDIA driver, although you've not provided a full backtrace. I'll
reassign it for now though. There's generally not much anybody can do
about crashes in the proprietary NVIDIA driver anyway though

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 239621] Re: Screensaver disables visual effects

2009-12-10 Thread Chris Coulson
The crash handling in compiz calls the fallback window manager
(currently metacity by default), to stop it from crashing repeatedly. I
think you can change that locally in your preferences if you prefer too
though. The geometry of the workspace switcher is a window manager
specific preference, so if you launch a new window manager, then it will
use it's own preferences. If you want Compiz and Metacity to have the
same number of workspaces, you need to change their preferences.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 429277] Re: left-handed mouse no longer working

2009-09-18 Thread Chris Coulson
The upload fixed a very specific issue with gnome-settings-daemon, where
the left-handed settings were being applied to the core pointer and
extension pointer, which caused the setting to be cancelled out. That
issue is fixed now (the settings are not applied to the core pointer),
so if there are outstanding issues with the settings reverting back to
right-handed, then that is a new problem.
