Another problem is when users logout. As a workaround to anyone dealing with this: Change the value in KDMRC that allows for retrying to start kdm several times, and this will work around the bug until a fix is made. Now, this only affects me once in a great while. I use KDM for my login manager and Gnome for the desktop environment for the students.
