Here you can read about what the thesaurus is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thesaurus Thanks in advance, András If you want a real thesaurus, install Artha. It's a very good dictionary (for meanings, not pronunciation) and a real thesaurus. Its only fault, as I see it, is that it considers all words "very rare"--and it's rarely right on that score! --doug I do not see many antonyms listed. I just wonder what is meant by a "real thesaurus used by librarians". To be honest, my printed book thesaurus does not show much more than LO's thesaurus or Athra's thesaurus information . -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Here you can read about what the thesaurus is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thesaurus Thanks in advance, András Here is the definition of "thesaurus" according to your link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thesaurus - "A thesaurus is a reference work that lists words grouped together according to similarity of meaning (containing synonyms and sometimes antonyms), in contrast to a dictionary, which contains definitions and pronunciations. " The one[s] I have installed, with 4.0.0, shows similar terms. For "belly" it shows several types of nouns and verb replacements for that word/term. I also know that there are adjectives and adverbs listed for some words. These may be listed by other thesaurus systems as synonym, derivatives, kind of, kinds, and parts. I have even seen the term of "domain" listed under the term "relatives". So, we have the synonyms and other "relatives". As for antonyms, well I have not looked at a lot of words in the thesaurus system/file[s] I use, but we are dependent on others to create these for us. Actually, my "book thesaurus" is a "Roget's 21st Century Thesaurus" and I do not see antonyms listed for the words I looked at. As far as I know, most of the dictionary and thesaurus options are based on the WordNet and Hunspell format and "offerings". We rely on these free "offerings", and others, to be able to have language aids included in LibreOffice. SO, please tell us what is used by a librarian/library as a reference thesaurus. I would like to know. What do you mean by "real thesaurus used by librarians". Also, I use an offline dictionary[definitions] and thesaurus called "Artha" that I use on my Ubuntu/Linux and Windows systems. This is free, like LibreOffice. I looked up many words using it, over the past few years, and I do not remember if it showed and antonyms.
