You don't need wml editor, but you definitely need a c compiler to compile from
sources, just like kannel. Try the mbuni docs and users list.

  Hi,

Although with kannel you can push several MMS-like messages to mobiles (aka
ppg, sms), you cannot push strict MMS. For that you will need another open
source server, mbuni, which needs kannel to work with MM1 traffic, but I
suspect you want to use it with MM7 (VAS) traffic, for which you can use on its
own.

Hi,

I am facing a big problem here and I hope that I can get some help from you
guys.

Recently, I have a requirement to send an MMS from my web server to an
MMS-enabled mobile phone. The MMS contains an image file and a line of
descriptions only. My question is:

  1.. Can I accomplish this with Kannel? I have a Wavecom Q24 GSM/GPRS
modem.

2.. If no, can you provide me with some hints on how to do this?

Thank you.

WML editor is needed if you create WAP pages, not for MMS.

I would suggest that you check the following books:
Developing MMS applications: multimedia messaging services for
wireless networks By Scott B. Guthery, Mary J. Cronin, Mary Cronin
Multimedia messaging service: an engineering approach to MMS By Gwenaël Le Bodic
MMS: technologies, usage and business models By Daniel Ralph, Paul Graham

For sending MMS messages you'll need and application and a MMSGW
(MM7), you can check
mbuni http://mbuni.org (open source MMS Gateway)

RE: mms with kannel?

2004-11-10 Thread Rene Kluwen
Hello,

1. Kannel is not written to support MMS (Kannel existed before MMS was
invented) but Kannel can help to send/receive MMS by means of:
   a) Sending an MMS service indication (basically looks like a WAP Push
with a different service ID). This is done by sending a (binary) SMS
message, which Kannel can do very well.
   b) Use the WAP Gateway as a relay to an MMS Relay Proxy to send (upload)
MMS content.
   c) Use the WAP Gateway as a relay to fetch MMS content from an MMS Relay
proxy.
   d) Also the WAP Gateway can be used to deliver service indication (like
indication received / MMS content received) to the MMS Relay proxy.

2. Currently Chimit has a set of PHP scripts, based on mmslib and the script
at http://www.heyman.info/mmsdecoder.php that we use (in combination with
Kannel) as a PROTOTYPE for developing a full-featured MMSC. This MMSC is
going to be in C++, so unfortunately we cannot convert it (at least not as
Open Source) to an MMS-Box or something thelike.

3. See mmslib (I think it is available from sourceforge or some other
community) and mmsdecoder (see the link above).

Cheers!

Hello all =)
My question had been repeated several times (I read
this year's archive) and should already be in the faq
right now. And anyway, I would just be restating it-

1. what is the status of mms support in kannel. are
the developers pushing it? do they have timeline?

2. for those who have already used mms with kannel (ie
able to send and receive mms), can they tell us the
steps that they took in order to make it all work?

3. aside from kannel, do you know of any mms client
(that is, i would be able to send and receive mms) in
linux? anyone who has used the program in here (i
think this uses kannel)-

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mmsclient/

I have a gprs capable modem able to connect to the
internet using http or wap. any related discussion,
examples, specification is very useful but just about
any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance =)

Hi =) Thanks for your quick reply.
So mms sending and receiving is already incorporated
in kannel then? If it is, can you show me how to
actually send and receive mms?

2004-11-10 Thread Kamran Fallah
Hi,

What do you mean by mms support for kannel?!!!
kannel is WAP Gateway and MMS is over the WAP.

the user will send a MMS request to the WAP gateway and WAP gateway convert the WAP message to HTTP (so it is now MMS over HTTP) and sends it to a MMS Center.

Do you an MMS box is to be written for Kannel? I am afraid not... ;)
