Thanks, Uwe. Am I understanding correctly that you're just letting your nodes 
attach to the iSCSI storage on their own by leaving "node.startup = automatic" 
in /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf so the hosts attach to all known targets as they 
boot, long before oVirt services ever attempt to connect them? I've considered 
flipping that to automatic, it's currently on "manual" as the idea was "let's 
let oVirt connect and manage the storage it wants".

As another poster below mentioned, going the route of two separate iSCSI bonds 
in the "iSCSI Multipath" section does work when you're adding new storage 
domains. The aspect he talks about, where you connect both paths and save it, 
isn't possible if you import an existing storage domain. When importing, the UI 
won't expose the "Add" button that's available when creating a new domain, so 
you can't add redundant paths. You can import the storage, then edit it and 
discover/login to the other path, but that does _not_ save to the database and 
will not persist across reboots or connect on other hosts you add to the 
cluster (have to login manually on each). You can't edit your iSCSI bonds and 
check the box for these manually logged in targets either, they'll never 
populate in that part of the UI so can't be selected. I think it's just a UI 
issue because some very easy fidling in the database makes it work exactly as 
you'd expect (and as it does for domains you newly add instead of importing
 ).

Sorry, rambling, but I am curious about your "node.startup" setting in 
iscid.conf.  If left at 'automatic' (the default), are your hosts attaching all 
the disks as they boot and oVirt doesn't mind that? It could be the path I'll 
take as honestly I'd much prefer configuring the storage connections directly.

Can you please share more details about the IP configuration of both
networks and how do you applied it?
At least the IP addresses (or at least a relevant abstraction, if they are
public),  subnet masks and the gateway would be helpful.
The parts of vdsm.log and the supervdsm.log of the host written during the
configuration would be helpful, too.

[ovirt-users] 4.4.x - VLAN-based logical network can't attach to bonds?

Hello all,

New 4.4.1 hosted-engine install. Pre-deploy, the host already had bond0 and its 
iSCSI interfaces configured. The deploy correctly sets up the ovirtmgmt 
interface using the bond, and when everything finishes up it's working as 
expected.  However, I then need to create a VLAN-based network and attach to 
the same bond0 interface. Editing the host networks and dragging the VLAN 102 
interface to the bond alongside ovirtmgmt, then clicking "OK" results in a 
failure every time. The error returned is:

VDSM ovirt5.domain.com command HostSetupNetworksVDS failed: Internal 
JSON-RPC error: {'reason': 'Unexpected failure of libnm when running the 
mainloop: run execution'}

I can break the bond and apply this an any other VLAN-based network at will, 
but then it's not possible to add the interface I removed to create the bond 
again. That may be by design and it's not supposed to be possible to attach an 
interface and create a bond once you've already assigned logical networks to 
it. The error there is "Error while executing action HostSetupNetworks: 
Interface already in use".

I'm just putting out feelers to see if this is a known issue that other people 
are hitting, or are other folks with hosted-engine 4.4.x deploys readily 
creating that initial bond0 interface and assigning any VLAN-based logical 
networks they want w/o issue?  These same hosts (they still aren't in prod so I 
rebuild them at will) run 4.3 with no issues and setting up the exact same 
network configurations works flawlessly, it just becomes an issue on 4.4.1. 
This host was freshly installed today and has all updates.

I am trying to setup active-backup (mode=1) bonding mode with custom
properties. I have one 10GE switch, the second is just 1G. 10GE link is
the primary one.

Could anybody explain me what 'MAC address cannot be specified in bond
interface along with specified bond options' means? I believe a MAC
address is not configured in interface configuration.

Or does it mean 'fail_over_mac=active' is not supported in oVirt?

Hi, 

after digging a bit deeper, it looks like it is the problem with the 
qemu-guest-agent. 

It does only report the hostname and nothing more. It uses this function: 
g_get_host_name () 

This function always returns the value in /etc/hostname and this is normally 
the short name of the VM without the domain part. 

It looks like, that the ovirt-guest-agent made this different, but this is not 
working anymore with python 3. 

There was a recent patch for qga -> [ 
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1845127 | 
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1845127 ] 
but this won't help me, because even when this patch would add the FQDN to 
oVirt back, there won't be a package for this for Ubuntu 20.04 and probably 
also not for RedHat/CentOS 8.

when setting hostnamectl set-hostname "FQDN", then engine will report the real 
and correct "FQDN", but this is not a good fix. 

With our older Debian and Ubuntu VMs, it is working correctly, although 
hostname is only reporting the short hostname. hostname -f is reporting here 
the correct FQDN.

Hi,

The current SPF record reads:
  v=spf1 a:mail.ovirt.org a:gerrit.ovirt.org 66.187.233.88 ~all

As pointed out, this is invalid.  It requires an "ip4:" in there, so it
SHOULD read:

  v=spf1 a:mail.ovirt.org a:gerrit.ovirt.org ip4:66.187.233.88 ~all


Arguably it should also include a /32, but I don't think that's required.

I'm not sure to whom this bug should be reported.

The info icon should list all CPU types supported by the host.

Regarding dashboard large icons, which browser are you using? If it's
firefox 68.10 ESR, then I guess you are referring to this bug
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1855761 which is already fixed
for next oVirt version (4.4.2).

I do not think you should have been prompted for a password during
install, unless you refer to Grafana's admin. Please clarify.

Perhaps you used a remote database?

Hi !

I have installed new oVirt 4.4 Engine (as separate entity, not hosted engine) 
and migrated data from old 4.3 installation.
Everything went smooth.

Q: Which PostgreSQL password now active - new one I entered during install or 
old which could migrate with old data?

I noticed GUI changes straight on dashboard.
Icons on top (data centres, clusters, hosts, etc) are simply put, too huge. 
This serves no useful purpose whatsoever, and consumes screen real estate for 
no reason.
Decreasing their size by 2/3 will help to make 1st page more informative at 1st 
sight without extra scrolling.

Please see comment 13 in the bug. Ansible checks /etc/os-release . I
think it's enough if you manually edit this file and retry
installation - but your editing might be overwritten later, so please
wait for an official fix for production setups.

Many questions on this: 1) Why python2 is needed? 2) Why reinstall process
works on version 4.4.1 even though python2 is missing on 4.4.1?

[ovirt-users] Reinstall failed on 4.4.1.1 with custom kernel settings

Hi, after the upgrade from 4.4.1 to 4.4.1.1, it seems that I cannot reinstall 
adding custom kernel settings. In my case, I'm trying to add 
"ixgbe.allow_unsupported_sfp=1" to cmdline but reinstall process fails without 
showing any relevant error in /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log. I did the same test on 
version 4.4.1 and it works without problems. On version 4.4.1 I tried to (1) 
add a parameter with reinstall, (2) add a second parameter and reinstall, (3) 
remove all params and reinstall and (4) finally add only one custom param with 
reinstall. All tests are ok on version 4.4.1 and the problem happens only on 
version 4.4.1.1.
Please, have you some idea on how to solve the issue? Is this a bug?

Hello Gianluca,
thanks for opening the bug. I have also reported my test scenario below.

(One thing more in my case, the standalone Manager needs to be installed on EL8 
and not like documents says on EL7.
With EL7 load is gives an error that Engine for EL7 is not avaiable. Document 
needs to be updated.)

The same error occurs when trying to add a node to a standalone Engine Manager.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install a standalone Engine Manager on EL8 step by step with this 
documentation

Hi Tommy,

 

I am not sure about your environment state, but you have an option to confirm 
that the host 'has bee rebooted'.

It should eventually set the VMs as down in your case and set the host in the 
state that will allow you to remove it.
