RE: [Veritas-bu] Cleaning issues: LTO-3/ADIC i2k and NBU 5.1 MP3
Hi Brian I had an LTO1 ADIC, and to be very truthful, I ended up doing it manually, because the tape request simply did not interact with Netbackup 3.4 Not only that, the ADIC constantly wanted the drive to be cleaned almost every other day. And I found this hard to believe, because if you do too many cleans you would end up damaging the drive heads I guess! The things to check would be the Barcode Rules, that its identified as a cleaning tape, but as I said I never got it to automatically work. I checked the amount of times the drives had been used and where required cleaned them! RE: [Veritas-bu] Re-queuing jobs due to busy resources(134)
I get these all the time. However, when I first put in SSO, I had an unusually high # of them, like more than 50 every night. I’m trying to remember what Veritas support had me do to get these down to a more reasonable # and I think it was adding SSO_SCAN_ABILITY = 9 to /usr/openv/volmgr/vm.conf on the master server. This will make the master server the SCAN host most of the time. SSO_SCAN_ABILITY may have from to 0 - 9. The larger the scan ability, the more likely the host will be to become the scan host. Setting it to zero means it will never become the SCAN_HOST. When a 134 occurs the jobs will re-que if the backup window is still open. The 134 happens when a job starts and all drives are already assigned. In my case, where all 4 media servers share all 8 tape drives, I could probably set the other media servers to 0 so they would never become the SCAN_HOST and I’d eliminate the 134s. I might try that. [Veritas-bu] NBU 6.0MP1, Exchange 2K3 on Win2K3
All, We are testing Exchange Backups for NBU 6 today. I was able to successfully backup the information store, but I can't get the Mailboxes or Public Folders to backup. Config Information: Policy: Type - MS-Exchange-Server Storage Unit - tape unit Volume Pool - Exchange Schedule - two defined Full Incremental Clients - Exchange Server Backup Selections - NEW_STREAM Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes:\ NEW_STREAM Microsoft Exchange Public Folders:\ With this default, the backup returned a 71 - none of the files in the file list exist(71) So, to try and hone down the problem, I played a bit. First, tried specifying a particular Public Folder. Gave up. Went to Mailboxes. Tried Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes:\[b]*. Tried Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes:\[broo]*. Both of these returned a 69 - invalid filelist specification(69). Anyone have any suggestions? The setup of this followed the NetBackup for Microsoft Exchange Server System Administrator's Guide. The only place I can think there may be a resolution is here (Admin Guide, pages 20 & 21): 3. Right-click on the virtual server name and select Properties. 4. Click on the Security tab. 5. Select the NetBackup Client service account under the Name pane. 6. Under Permissions, select Receive As and Send As. When we set the Receive As and Send As permissions for the NBU Client service account, the Deny rule was also in place as an inheritance. I have yet to figure from where it was inherited or how to deactivate it. Is this a likely source of the issue? Suggestions? RE: [Veritas-bu] OT: vxsvc process runaway
Title: Message As far as I can tell, nothing at all had changed on this box. Since it's a lab box, there's no change control process, so no logging of changes. It's a Solaris box, no AV running. I ended up killing the vxsvc process and disabling the SXXisisd startup script, untill I can determine root cause. only side effect is that it will have to be started manually in order to use the VEA GUI, then shutdown again. Not a big deal, as I use it maybe once a year. LOL. As an after thought, anything that I find misbehaving, I tend to verify its running the latest version and the OS has the latest SP or updates. Maybe, if AV is running, turn it off perhaps as a test. Or you could uninstall / resinstall the application again and see if the problem continues. I was chasing a memory leak which I thought was an AV process but in fact it was a Quota 3rd party application that was to blame! Since uninstalling, box remains stable! Turned out the software had an update that killed it!! On one of my Netbackup servers (lab system) I've got a process called vxsvc that seems to be misbehaving. This machine has been running for about 18 months, and this only started last week. When the system boots, the process appears consuming 65M of memory. (which is the same as all of my other boxes which are behaving.) On this particular machine after about 48 hours, it's grown to the point where it's consumed all 2GB of physical memory, and all the configured swap. The machine hangs hard, and has to be powercycled. If I kill the process, the system continues to work fine, except you cannot use the VEA GUIwhich isn't normally a big dealif I need to run it, I can start vxsvc, do what needs to be done with VEA then kill vxsvc again. One of these days, I'll have time to work on resolving it, but for now, it's just a nuisance has anyone seen this before? RE: [Veritas-bu] Dr Watson Win2k3 Netbackup Client
In this case is was mscvp70.dll. We backed out the MP4 patch then uninstalled 5.1, rebooted, reinstalled 5.1, patched back to MP4. Support told me to back out the patch first or VSP would never work correctly on the client again. The DLL is not a Veritas DLL, but the client was patched with MS patches right before this error started. It may be a DLL that NB looks for at install and installs if it is not there. Anyway, the client reinstall fixed my problem Bobby Williams 2205 Peterson Drive Chattanooga, Tennessee 37421 423-296-8200 -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Brooks, Jason Sent: Tuesday, February 28, 2006 12:58 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; WEAVER, Simon; veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: RE: [Veritas-bu] Dr Watson Win2k3 Netbackup Client Do you know what the DLL is that is "gone"? Paul This email is for the intended addressee only. RE: [Veritas-bu] Dr Watson Win2k3 Netbackup Client
Thanks, I did in fact as a course of action, turn off VSS last night as I noticed someone has re-enabled it and hence why the backups started to fail. This seems to have worked - I also disabled tracker.exe too on the Win2k3 box Thanks for the clarification Simon Weaver Technical Support Windows Domain Administrator EADS Astrium Tel: 02392-708598 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 28 February 2006 17:29 To: WEAVER, Simon; 'veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu' Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] Dr Watson Win2k3 Netbackup Client bpfis.exe is used by VSP.
