Antw: [Veritas-bu] Multiplexing / Streaming

2005-11-02 Thread Jérôme Meyer
Hi Simon

It's seems right but you should still to enable in Attribute's policy
-> "Allow multiple data streams"

Jerome

Hi can I have some opinions please?
I am deeply concerned about backup speeds, and trying to get my head
around
streaming and multiplexing.

I have 3 available tape drives and I have 2 policies that I intend to
run
tonight. I want both policies to use the available drives where
possible.

I have told NBU I have 5 drives available - 2 are offline at the
moment, but
3 are readily there.

The 1st policy will start at 6pm and contains 3 streams

The 2nd Policy starts at 7pm and contains 3 streams.

Both of the policies both state "Media Multiplexing" is set for 3

NBU Master Storage Unit is set for "Max Multiplexing per drive" is 6.

Does this sound right or have I missed the point?

Thank you for any input!

Simon

Hi Richard

Are you sure?
Here's the command in NBU 5.x

bpmedia -help

bpmedia:
  -freeze|-unfreeze|-suspend|-unsuspend -m [-h ] [-v]
  -movedb -m -newserver [-oldserver ] [-v]

Regards,
Jerome

Jerome,
Minor correction!

Bpmedia takes the "-ev" flag to signify media not the "-m".

I guess this is a useful distinction but it's a faff to have to keep in mind
when writing scripts!

Cheers,

Richard.

Hi Simon

Do you have any idea about my question??

To unfrozen it :

bpmedia -unfreeze -m

To expire it (normal backup) :

bpexpdate -m -d 0

To expire it (catalog backup) :

vmquery -deassigned 1 0x1

Hope it helps!

Hi
If I have a media that is frozen and I want to expire it to make it
available, do you happen to know the command line for this? Using NBU 5.x

Thanks

Simon

Hi

I'm writing a shell script to know the tape's expiration date, like
this:

VARIABLE=$(bpmedialist -mlist -U -m $MEDIA_ID|tail +7|\awk '{print $2}'|sed
'/^ *$/d') Output -->  $VARIABLE=11/06/2005

Unfortunately, some tapes aren't in DB and produce no output in $VARIABLE
BUT they send this message in STDOUT like follow :
"requested media id was not found in NB media database and/or MM volume
database"

Which commands or functions can I use to capturing the STDOUT value?

Thanks
