RE: [Veritas-bu] Can a 4.5FP_6 media server backup a 5.1 client?
1 version higher on Master and Media servers than the Clients is acceptable in most cases, not the other way around. Clients should never be a higher version than the Master or media servers. RE: [Veritas-bu] Can a 4.5FP_6 media server backup a 5.1 client?
There is a problem, sometimes you may not able to restore files properly. I had backups running for 4.5 master with 5.1 Media server. When i had restore there was a problem it could restore somefiles although there was no issues in the tape I couldn't restore the files. Veritas support simple told they won't this configuration. I then duplicated the tapes using nompx option and got it restored. I would tend to agree, although if Ed sees this as a feature in NBU6 they I guess it would be ok! Likewise, doing an "Offline" backup of the DB is not supported, however I have my own routine for restoring my Server in any scenario Rather have multiple methods of being able to restore the cat, rather than just the "one" BPRecover method :-) Simon Weaver Technical Support Windows Domain Administrator EADS Astrium Tel: 02392-708598 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: David Rock [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 10 February 2006 15:36 To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Cc: Justin Piszcz Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] Can a 4.5FP_6 media server backup a 5.1 client? * Ed Wilts <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [2006-02-10 06:27]: > On Fri, Feb 10, 2006 at 06:18:55AM -0500, Justin Piszcz wrote: > > All my master servers are 5.1.x, some of the media servers however > > are still running at 4.5_FP6. > > > > Will there be any issues if I upgrade all of my clients to 5.1 as > > the media servers are still at the 4.5_FP6 revision? > > I don't believe that this is supported. I have seen it work, but it is DEFINITELY not supported by Symantec. If you have any issues restoring data, you will be on your own. Ed I agree, believe that it may not work, or get properly backed up (ie: trying to backup a Win2k3 server on a 3.4 server works, but restoring is IMPOSSIBLE) !! I don't believe that this is supported. The rule is that the master has to be at a higher rev than the media servers which have to be at a higher rev than the clients. The only exception I have seen has been with the OpenVMS client - it can be at a higher rev than the master or media and it will negotiate and do the right thing. .../Ed -- Ed Wilts, Mounds View, MN, USA mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu This email is for the intended addressee only.
