I have been wondering how it or its sister product, the citrus-based OrangeClean would work on yellowed case parts. OxyClean works well when cleaning cases. Not sure about the yellowing though. Although, it seemed to work on my SE case. I am STILL very committed to Clorox CleanUp Gel. After several applications with a foam paint brush, I get near new-looking clean with no damage to the case. It stays in the direct desert sun for a day , while applications are added, then rinsed. I've seen nothing work better. Jeff -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... IIcx's, floods, mouse houses and dishwashing...
just for the reading value and nothing else... I gave up smoking around 2 months and a bit ago, and seem to have turned to collecting Macs. It's a lot more fun and cheaper, and most of the machines I've found have been on eBay. Just recently I came across a IIcx, sold as-is but probably not working, and I put my $2 bid on - the auction closed, I won, and it was shipped to me - with a 14 trinitron monitor that wasn't mentioned in the ad... that's the first bonus! When it arrived however, as-is took on the full meaning. With the IIcx I bought a fair amount of silt in the bottom of the case (I can only gather it had been underwater at some time) and remnants of a mouse population - little bits of corrosion on the motherboard, a few strands of nestbuilding stuff, and droppings everywhere. A bummer I thought, but the HD looked dry clean, and perhaps the 8 simms would be useful down the track. Never being afraid of the words too silly I thought it'd be worth cleaning the whole thing just to see what else was in there, and what other damage had been done, and the motherboard had a good soak in oxygen bleach (the non-caustic stuff) then a scrub down with a soft plastic brush with ordinary dishwashing detergent and warm water, then a blow dry. the power supply had a sweep-out, and the case hosed down and bleached also. After the motherboard was dried, I scrubbed with a toothbrush and a little sewing oil on the more corroded bits, and nothing seemed to be completely eaten through. This looked promising! Also never being too patient, I stuck as much of the IIcx together as I could without the case, connected it to the monitor and... it booted first go! I'm still kind of stunned, and wished I'd taken photos now of the process original condition. That's a very determined little mac to survive all that, and for $2 it takes pride of place on my desk as an Interesting Story Artifact :D be well! danabanana -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... And congrats for breathing another Mac, albeit under enormously risky circumstances, back into being. Perhaps you'll name it Timex..? Jeff -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
