Having issues reading the time using Eva full voice on iPhone 13 using latest iOS

2023-03-18 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Hi folks,

My preferred voice is the full version of Eva. However, for the last several
iOS iterations, I have noticed that, more often than not, the voice will read
the time incorrectly. What should be spoken as two oh seven PM will end up
being spoken as two minutes zero seconds PM. This is not consistent.
Occcasionally, Eva will read the time as one would expect. But most of the
time I get the misspoken time I demonstrated above. Other voices don’t seem to
have this problem. Has anyone ever noticed this with Eva or any other voice?
Is there a recipe for fixing this problem?

Thanks,
Kevin

How do I start a new conversation in this group using my iPhone and not using Mail?

2023-03-18 Thread Kevin Gibbs
Subject says it all. I’m writing this on my computer using Apple Mail. I was
looking at ViPhone on my phone and wanted to start a new conversation and
couldn’t figure out how. There has to be a way to start a new topic in this
group from one’s phone without starting with an e-mail generated from Apple
Mail. Right? How does one do that?

I had the same result as you, until I created a group. You should try that
again, as I did find an area to type a message or option to record, etc.
Perhaps you will find the following helpful:

  1. I started by double tapping on “new message,” and then double tapped on
“create a new group.”
  2. I double tapped on the edit field for creating a name of the group and
then typed a name for the group.
  3. I then swiped right to the name of someone I wanted to be part of the
group, double tapped on that name. After double tapping on a name, Voiceover
announces the name is selected. I continue swiping right and repeat the
process until the desired names have been selected.
  4. I then double tapped on a button labeled, “create.” That button is
toward the top of the screen, just left of the field for the name of the group.
  5. I then heard Voiceover say something about what I had named the group.
  6. Swiping right at this point led to my finding where I could type or speak
a message to the group.
  7. Specifics about creating the message are as you would expect.

Hi,
I’m on an iPhone running IOS 16.3 and the latest Messenger. I’m trying to send
a message to two people. I tapped the New message button and searched for the
first person. I then found an Add button, which I assumed I had to tap, and
searched for the second person. I saw another add button once I found her and
so I tapped that . Both the people I want are now listed to the left of the
“To: field, so I think I have that correct. Here’s the thing. I cannot figure
how to get past this to start typing the message. There is no Next button,
hitting enter does nothing and my screen is full of all these other suggested
contacts. Scrolling down to the end of the suggested recipients lists doesn’t
help. What am I missing? How do I move to the message body? I really need
to write to both of these people at the same time to discuss the three of us
getting together.

P.S. I also tried creating a new group and, after adding the contacts, it got
stuck in a screen that said Loading. Maybe I should try that again, but I’m
not sure I need to do that approach.

Re: Looking for mail app that can filter messages

2023-03-18 Thread Jonathan Cohn
The problem with Mail Rules is that one wants some to be server side and some
to be on your device. Outlook on Windows with Microsoft Exchange servers gives
a very robust set of rules and generally keeps them on the server unless there
are actions like save attachments or notify with a specific sound.
In IOS Usually the only configuration is what sound will play and I think this
is locked down on a mailbox level.
Well, there is the VIP where you can have emails from specific contacts placed
in a VIP folder and have a special tone for them.
The VIP folder does a search type functionality and will look for messages
from your VIPS in any mailbox. But if you want messages automatically moved
then you really want that done by the mail server i.e. Google Outlook.com
 iCloud.com
Otherwise, the rules can’t be relied on to remain active as you switch between
devices.

Okay, now I understand. I was talking about message rules. I wish the mail app
and other iOS mail apps gave more flexibility with different types of message
rules. I have set up message rules in the Gmail web view, and that has helped
me keep my mail organized throughout the last many years since many rules have
certain labels which are automatically applied to messages when they arrive.
Again, it would be awesome if the same feature set was in the native mail app,

By filters, I am assuming that you mean message rules, where certain messages
would go in particular folders depending on how the rule is set up. Is this
correct?

Now the iOS mail app does filter messages, but not in the way I think you are
talking about. When in a folder, like your inbox, at the bottom of the screen,
you will find a toggle filter button. If you double tap this, this will turn
on the iOS filtering, and another filter button will appear. That button will
let you choose the type of filtering you want. In the iOS mail app, you can
filter by things like, by messages that are unread, messages with attachments,
messages that are flagged, and messages just received today.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think by using the word filtering
without giving any more details has given the wrong idea on what you are trying
to do.

As far as using message rules to filter your messages to different folders, you
are correct, you can not set them up in the iOS mail app. And actually, I do
not know of any iOS app that lets you actually set them up. It has been stated
on list before that you can set message rules up on the GMail web site, and
then they should show up in any iOS app that you use. Since you have said that
you have already tried this with no success makes me wonder. I might look into
this myself to see what is going on.

Again, if you are not trying to set up message rules, please let us know.

Hi guys,
I’m trying to find an accessible GPS application for the iPhone that will
offer really easy to use bread crumb features for an older gentleman who is not
really tech savvy. He lives on a farm that is approximately 60 acres in size.
He needs an app in which he can navigate between specific landmarks on his
property and be given directions or indicators if he wanders astray. This would
be, for example, reaching a water tower from his house or finding his way back
to his house from another part of his property.

If anyone can suggest a specific app that will fit the bill, please let me
know. Also, if one can give pointers that I can pass along to the person, I’d
appreciate that as well.

RE: Looking for mail app that can filter messages

2023-03-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And that is the difference between a "filter" and a "rule". If you want certain
messages to automatically get sorted to a particular folder than that has to be
done via a message rule. And of course if you use Gmail then it's not even
folders but labels, e.g. a message gets a "Viphone" label and practically this
is more of less like it getting put in a "Viphone" folder.

Subject: Re: Looking for mail app that can filter messages

Chris

Re: Audio books in Apple Books

2023-03-18 Thread Barbara Stahl
Open the books app. Select the search tab at the bottum right, then put in the
search term AI narration. That will give you a list of AI narrated books.
You can tell because if you double tap one of the titles, it will say that the
book is narrated by Apple.

I just took a look at it as I don’t use it that often. The tabs at the bottom
right are certainly accessible. In activating them, I think you will be able to
use the app. I receive notifications from the app regarding the Sabres is that
as my team. I can, take a look at it, I think it will work for you.
