A question from an iPHone user that was sent to me about the Square reader
Hi guys, I am posting a question on behalf of a user who is not currently subscribed to the list. His is a blind vendor in Hawaii and he is having trouble with the Square reader. Please see his question below. I will send him any responses. i have an iPhone 4s with square app thinking i could process credit cards for my business as a blind vendor. unfortunately, voiceover and square are not totally compatible. it will work up to a certain point and then freezes at the screen where the customer has to sign the screen and press the continue button. i told square about the problem and they agreed to look into the matter in the next release of their app for the iphone. i use a splitter with a 4 point plug and at least 1 female jack that has mic and stereo audio out. this contraption works fine up to a point and i could hear voiceover on my earphone. i also tried bluetooth headset to listen to voiceover. however, when you plug square in the earphone jack, audio is cut off the bluetooth ear piece. i haven't tried gopayment yet but it's another credit card processing option for the iphone. maybe it is a good idea to try square on the ipad or mac but unfortunately i don't have these devices. Re: A question from an iPHone user that was sent to me about the Square reader
John, I believe that if bluetooth is on, plugging the card reader in first, then turning on the bluetooth headset should route VoiceOver to the headset. As for the freezing that occurs at the signature screen, I have a couple of ideas. I haven't used the app in a while, not since iOS 6, but one method may be to toggle VoiceOver off when the sustomer needs to sign then toggle it back on after they tap continue. When I have used the square app in the past, it was necissary to double tap and hold and start signing if VoiceOver was running. I hope something works for him. Also, I remember seeing in a post on this list that there was a company that had a card reader available that plugged in to the charging port instead of the headphone jack. Hope it works out. - Original Message - From: "John Panarese" To: Sent: Wednesday, November 21, 2012 9:16 AM Subject: A question from an iPHone user that was sent to me about the Square reader Hi guys, I am posting a question on behalf of a user who is not currently subscribed to the list.
