Re: An iDrive question about backups
Actually, I have been working with this a lot and I think it is so worth it. On my iphone it backed up my calendar, contacts, photos and videos. Not such a big deal but I was able to access the calendar from my PC and copy the list. And the items showed up as a list of just the calendar entries and not all the empty days. I have not been able to access the iCloud backup of the calendar so this was a biggie for me. I don’t have Outlook which I understand a lot of people use to sync calendars. It has taken some work and a learning curve but files are being uploaded from my computer and I was able to access them online. They are not all there yet since the original upload is huge. It chooses basic folders for you at first but you can exclude files or folders. I have Carbonite and am very unhappy with it as it does not back up my videos. My home videos are my most precious files and when I first got Carbonite I had to go in and add each individual video to the list. So I thought they were backed up. But now I find they are not. And I paid for the $99/year plan. I think the iDrive will back up enough of my important files that I will cancel Carbonite when it runs out. And the $.99 price is for every year, not just one year according to the sources I read. Using the app itself is a bit problematic, but I have had success using the Jaws cursor. And I think that the Sync folder that holds another 50 GB of stuff should really make a difference. I am trying to put different files in there rather than the ones the regular backup does so as to not duplicate. The Sync folder is a regular folder like Dropbox, I think. I will have to wait to see what gets uploaded from there. There are lots of help FAQ’s on the website and I have been reading through them. And, really, at 99 cents a year how can one go wrong? On Windows, can you use Windows Explorer to access the drive or do you need to use the application? If you have to use the application, no wonder its so cheap.
