scanning amazon gift cards

2022-07-27 Thread Donald Raikes
Hi,

I have received a number of amazon gift cards recently, and I was
wondering if anyone has used the amazon app to try tot scan the gift
cards into their amazon account?

I haven't found a way to find the barcode or whatever the app uses
with the camera.

I tried going to the amazon website and entering the giftcards
manually, but they require use of an inaccessible captia to redeem a
giftcard.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

TIA,
Donald

Hi, Donald.
I would suggest, if you have access to these services, using Aira or Be My
Eyes. This is especially because of the CAPCHA situation you described.
Hope this helps.

RE: scanning amazon gift cards

2022-07-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
With a gift card the barcode can only be either on the one side or the other. I
suggest when you are in the correct place in the app to put the gift card on a
table, put the phone on top and line it up so the camera lens is approx. in the
middle, then try to lift your phone straight up from the card, probably all
that is needed is 4 or 6 inches for a credit size card. Hold it still for a
moment and if that doesn't do anything repeat with the other side. If you find
it easier you could try it the other way around, put the phone on the table
with the back camera facing up after opening the Amazon app and going to the
right place, then put the gift card on top of the camera and lift it straight
up about 4 or 6 inches. I have done this with Apple gift cards and done it both
ways successfully.

You can of course use Aira or Be My Eyes if you want to first find out where
exactly the barcodes are, e.g. which side and where on the card, e.g. top left,
middle, bottom centre etc. Put down all cards either with the barcode side down
or up as you prefer and then try the above. I know Aira can take pictures with
the regular camera app, not sure if they could actually remotely do these
barcodes for you and add them to your system. I guess if you had a membership
they could log into your computer remotely and do it for you there after
writing down all the numbers first, but that certainly wouldn't be possible in
a 5-minute or less free call.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Re: scanning amazon gift cards

2022-07-29 Thread Donald Raikes
Now in the amazon app I am not finding where I can scan the cards I
only find where I have to enter the claim code and fill in a captia
just like on the website.

Fortunately I discovered I can enter a gift claim code when I am
checking out and it will use that gift card for some or all of the
purchase price.
