Invisible firewall?
I emailed before about a problem of me not being able to connect to my home vnc server. I wanted to state that Both my laptop and home computer has windows xp, but the home computer that the server is on only has service pack1, where my laptop that I'm trying to use viewer with(behind work firewall ports 20,21,22 open) cannot connect to it. John gave me a link, and told me to use a ssh tunnel, but that didn't work either. Then when bored and stressed out, I tried it with the "accept connections on ports" section on the connection tabs on the server was on port 22, and I entered, ip.add.ress::22 , on my viewer and the password authentication came up. Excited, I put in the correct password, and a black window that was suppose to look like my desktop closed and a error message saying "Connection reset by peer" came up. I tried it multiple times after that, and it didn't work. After that day I haven't even gotten to that point yet. The only other explanation is that there's a f! irewall that I can't see is running. But Service pack 1 doesn't come with a firewall like Service Pack 2 does. Has anyone ever head of this? Check out the new AOL. Re: Cannot connect from work
so accept conections should be 5900 which is the default, and I put 5900 on the source port on putty, but in sessions category the port number should be say 22 so It goes through the firewall at work through port 22, and comunicates with the vnc server on it's default 5900, am I right? I think I can get it working now. I just got confused when he said to put 5904 when his router accept on port 4. But when I tried the "accept connections" on port 22, I tired just to make sure, and connected with a black screen. It's weird because then it closed and said "Connection reset by peer". Should ssh tunneling fix or prevent this since I wasn't using ssh when I tried this. I'm really sorry for bothering you with this. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: vnc-list@realvnc.com Sent: Mon, 9 Oct 2006 6:35 AM Subject: Re: Cannot connect from work On Sunday 08 October 2006 07:25 pm, you wrote: > The instructions on that ssh putty link you emailed to me didn't work. Kinda getting frusturating since I know someone > who does it all the time on the beta of vnc so I guess vnc doesn't like me. > Are there other instructions? > Accept connections should be set to "5900" and also you need to check the box to accept connections on the "localhost." I'm not running vnc on Windows at this time, so I don't recall what the setting is called, exactly. One other thing I should mention: If you get caught doing this, your employer may consider it a violation of company policy, since they are specifically trying to limit access to the outside world. Just because your friend at work does it, does not mean that it's "OK." I get a black screen?
After months of fustration, I finally see a password confirmation so I can log on. After entering the password, I see the window pop up, but also it's all black, then it closes and asks if I can reconnect. I tried multiple times, but it still didn't work. I tried it up until I couldn't connect to it at all(probably ip change). Can someone please help. Check out the new AOL. Cannot connect from work
I'm trying to connect to my RealVNC server that I made at my house from work, but at my job everything is on a proxy server. It allows traffic on ports 20,21,and 22. On my vnc server properties, I accept connections on port 22, and I followed instructions for my WRT54GSv4 linksys router on portforward.com but I still cannot connect. I know it can be done, because my co-worker does it all the time. He uses the beta version however, while I use the 4.1.2 RealVNC Free Edition. My laptop that I take with me to work is on Windows XP, as well as my home computer that the VNC server is on. Is it my router, or do I have to do something else. I put the number 22 on "Accept Connections on port:" in the properties on the server, just in case that helps. Check out the new AOL. Cannot connect to router
I'm trying to connect to my RealVNC server at home from work, but there is a firewall at my job. I know that ports 20, 21, and 22 are free, so all I have to do is use that port. But so far it hasn't been working. I changed the port from the default 5900 on the server to 21, and setup my WRT54GSv4 linksys router to alow traffic on port 21 like the instructions say on http://www.portforward.com but it still won't work. I know it can work somehow because my co-worker can do it using the beta, so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong? I searched through the mail list, and haven't found anything that can help. My laptop is Windows XP, as well as my home computer, and I'm using the most recent RealVNC. Check out the new AOL.
