Email not deleting from server ?
Hi folks, For some reason (since I got my new iMac) my emails do not delete from ISP server (Westnet) once downloaded. I only noticed this because I happened to use webmail one day to check my emails, and I wondered why the hell there were so many there and going back so far. I use Mac Mail and have checked preferences. In Accounts / Advanced the box against Remove copy from server after retrieving a message is ticked. I cannot see anything else that should be adjusted. ANY IDEAS FOLKS ? PS: I contacted Westnet and was told I should maybe use a different mail application. I was a little surprised actually because their tech support has always been very helpful. Re: Email not deleting from server ?
Hi Stephen, I too am with Westnet, and have purchased a new iMac (so I'm new to Mac OS X). I checked my browser Westnet account, and my e-mails are being deleted. So it does work with 'Mail'. I checked the 'advanced' button on the e-mail account and the one marked 'remove copy from server' and the 'remove right away' need to be set. Hope it works for you ... Apple iPhone SDK
http://www.apple.com/hotnews/ Third Party Applications on the iPhone Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers' hands in February. We are excited about creating a vibrant third party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users. With our revolutionary multi-touch interface, powerful hardware and advanced software architecture, we believe we have created the best mobile platform ever for developers. It will take until February to release an SDK because we're trying to do two diametrically opposed things at once—provide an advanced and open platform to developers while at the same time protect iPhone users from viruses, malware, privacy attacks, etc. This is no easy task. Some claim that viruses and malware are not a problem on mobile phones—this is simply not true. There have been serious viruses on other mobile phones already, including some that silently spread from phone to phone over the cell network. As our phones become more powerful, these malicious programs will become more dangerous. And since the iPhone is the most advanced phone ever, it will be a highly visible target. Some companies are already taking action. Nokia, for example, is not allowing any applications to be loaded onto some of their newest phones unless they have a digital signature that can be traced back to a known developer. While this makes such a phone less than totally open, we believe it is a step in the right direction. We are working on an advanced system which will offer developers broad access to natively program the iPhone's amazing software platform while at the same time protecting users from malicious programs. We think a few months of patience now will be rewarded by many years of great third party applications running on safe and reliable iPhones. Steve P.S.: The SDK will also allow developers to create applications for iPod touch. Re: Email not deleting from server ?
I have noticed this behaviour, different ISP, same Mail.app and same preference settings. If you select any of your mail boxes in the left column, do a Get Info [CMD-i] and you will see an Account window with three tabs. Click on the Messages on Server tab. You can then select residual messages listed there and delete them. I find that a little easier to do than going to my ISP webmail page and deleting messages, you don't have to start up your browser and navigate to the mail page etc. However everyone's MMV. As to why some mail messages get left behind, I don't know. This is not a new phenomenon [ref your new iMac], I have a TiPB 867. I just try to remember to clean the messages out every few months and there are usually only very few, 2 or 3, there to be disposed of so it's not something I worry about. I just checked and I have one message there and it is at least 3 months since I last checked. I receive about 200 emails a week and just about all are automatically removed from the server as per the preferences. However if all your messages are still on the server that is cause for concern. It may be that another mail app will not do this. No doubt someone using another app will be able to tell us if this occurs for them. Startup Disk Full
Hi All, My iMac G5 with 150GB hard disk has produced a warning this morning that the startup disk is nearly full. I have run Whatsize on my HD and it confirms this but in the detail it only shows a total of 70Gb being used where has the other 80GB gone and how can I find out? Re: Startup Disk Full
Hi David, Glad you found what was taking up your HD, I was going to suggest duplicate backups. I had this happen realised I had Déjà Vu keeping too many Archives of my backups on my Internal Drive. Also it's good to run Maintenance Tasks regularly using an application like Macjanitor? It clears out log files etc which can take up lots of space. Sometimes Console Log files can take up heaps of GB's. http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/macjanitor.html http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/TigerMisc.html http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/freeingspace.html Cheers, Ronni On 18/10/2007, at 6:40 AM, David Wood wrote: My Apologies.. This innovative tool makes it easy for users to capture high-quality audio and video http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/features/podcasts.html Leopard Compatibility taken from 'Take Control of Upgrading to Leopard' CHECK YOUR HARDWARE FOR COMPATIBILITY All currently shipping Macs, and most models sold within the past 5 years or so, are capable of running Leopard. However, Apple has increased the minimum system requirements significantly over what was necessary to run Tiger. If your computer doesn’t meet these requirements, it might be time to think about springing for a newer model. Processor Support: Leopard requires either an Intel processor, a PowerPC G5 processor, or a PowerPC G4 running at 867 MHz or faster. (G3-based Macs and slower G4 models can therefore run Tiger but not Leopard.) Here’s the breakdown of which models can run Leopard: • eMac: All eMac models can run Leopard except the 700 and 800 MHz models released in April 2002 and the 800 MHz model released in May 2003. • iBook: Most iBook G4 models can run Leopard; the sole exception is the 800 MHz model. G3 iBook models can’t run Leopard. • iMac: iMac models with LCD displays support Leopard—except the 700 MHz and 800 MHz, 15 flat panel models released in January 2002, and the 800 MHz, 17 model released in July 2002. • Mac Pro, MacBook, and MacBook Pro: All these product lines, which use Intel processors, can run Leopard. • Mac mini: All Mac mini models use suitably fast G4 or Intel processors and are Leopard-compatible. • Macintosh Server G4: Not to be confused with the Xserves, these desktop server machines look like Power Macs but were designed as servers. Models with one or more processors running at 933 MHz or higher—first shipped in January 2002—can run Leopard; slower models cannot. • PowerBook: The aluminum G4 models can run Leopard. Of the titanium G4 models, only the last generation—the 867 MHz and 1 GHz models, introduced in November 2002—support Leopard. • Power Mac: Leopard runs on Power Mac models with G5 processors or G4 processors running at 867 MHz or faster (the earliest of which was one of the “Quicksilver” models released in July 2001). At press time, it was unclear whether Power Mac models with more than one slower-than-867 MHz processor would support Leopard. The Power Mac G4 Cube cannot run Leopard. Experiences with Next G Relocatable Wireless Broadband Software ?
Hi Here's the storystuck in a small area here (Gelorup/Bunbury) that is a Terrestrial Broadband Access Blackhole (don't get me started...) A neighbour (PC user) recently signed up to Next G Relocatable Wireless Broadband (256kbps - G Fast plan.) A few weeks back he kindly brought his modem over and we did an install on my G5 PPC iMac...got an average of 3 bars reception strength...seemed to work well and speed measured an average around 220kbps As my current dialup speed is around 20kbps, this seemed like lightning. BUT... During installation of the BigPond/Modem software (latest version at the time), we got a kernel panic and also got another one on closing the connection down when we finished. These are the first and only kernel panics I have ever had on this machine in nearly two years of use. This did not fill me with confidence about the BigPond Wireless experience. So my question is...how are people who are using the Next G Relocatable Wireless Broadband finding the mac version software? Is it more stable than I experienced, or was that a bit of a one off ? I think I will have to make the jump soon...I may go mad if I have to put up with dialup for much longer.
