Re: [ADMIN] Address Reminder

2003-08-06 Thread Kent Lyon Architect
Just wondering why when I hit the Archives website below it goes to Yahoo?
Is it just me or has anyone else tried?

Re: Apple coming to David Jones

2003-08-01 Thread Kent Lyon Architect
Hey Doug,

It will be interesting to see how it goes. I know the Perth store has one
of my other favourite products - Bang & Olefuson (B&O) electronics since the
new store opened in the City. If they set up like they have the B&O shop
then it is like a specialised Œdeli¹ in some supermarkets, is this a good
thing?

Interesting point in the article about the need to be passionate and know
the products to sell Macs and that computer sales required speciality sales
knowledge and service. I know that is not always the case with the
AppleCentres & Resellers I have been to in the past and in particular down
here in Bunbury a couple of years ago when I was coming back to the fold.
Often it is not difficult to be miles (or kilometres) ahead of the
salespeople just by picking up the latest edition of MacWorld or visiting
the Apple website (even from Bunbury). But this is not limited to
AppleCentres or Resellers it seems to be across the board in retail
probably that whole information age stuff and trying to keep up with
technology generally no matter what field of Œexpertise¹ you are
endeavouring.

I think its a good move myself (whether it will happen in WA is another
question?) lets face it the more people who become knowledgeable about the
Apples than it would seem to follow the better products we can expect. Just
on a side note about B&O, perhaps Apple could start to operate in a similar
fashion (not just like them, perhaps differently!) where you can
upgrade/trade-in their products and they give you the value of what you have
purchased towards a new B&O, now how would that be I know the same old
story about technology, software, operating systems, etc. come into play but
just dream about that, especially in this age when many whitegoods
manufacturers in Europe are have to look after their old products (cradle to
grave) scenarios if not for the Apple users than perhaps the Environment!

Cheers everyone, think I better get back to work (don¹t worry I am
self-employed),

West Australian Wednesday (9.7.2003) Today section - Beat Bug

2003-07-11 Thread Kent Lyon Architect
Hi all,

Just looking through the Wednesday paper at lunch time and saw this article
(with photo of Titanium PowerBook in background) for an invention called the
Beat Bug. Looks (& probably sounds) interesting, developed by a computer
whiz and musician-composer.

Anyway an interesting read. But what I was wondering is where & when this
Annual Australian Computer Music Conference in Perth is happening? About
midway through the article it mentions that the Beat Bug will be
demonstrated but at no point does this newsworthy item tell us the critical
information.

So does anyone know?

Re: Security Update Issue

Michel, et al,

Curious whether this security update has/is still causing problems?

Wanted to update, but feeling a bit uneasy if it is going to shut me out of
my PowerBook!

Kent

Hi Warren,

Tried tapping on the link 'soliciting interest from Mac users'
(http://totally.ausom.net.au/e-tax/) and the url is not found on that
server!

I wonder what the 'story' is there?

Upgrading to OS X 10.2

2002-08-09 Thread Kent Lyon Architect
Just a little whinge about the new (& improved!) OS X 10.2. Below is some
feedback I have sent through to Apple on the OS X 10.2 upgrade.

'I just wanted to voice my opinion that after having spent $6,000 (AUS) on a
new PowerBook G4 with new OS X only back in late March 2002 to now have to
pay the full cost ($229 AUS) for OS X 10.2 in less than six months after
making the upgrade/change to OS X really sucks.

I have constantly pushed the Apple barrow as paying for quality up front
meant that you are not constantly having to pay full price for every
upgrade, unlike the Windows environment. But now it would appear that not
only do you pay more up front for quality but I must now constantly upgrade
the software (which will mean every other program on my computer will need
to be upgraded as well.

I am well aware this is the way the Windows/Microsoft people work but I
thought Apple was different!'

And by the way what is with all the numbers I thought OS X meant just that,
not OS X then 10.1 or 10.2 after it seems like a lot of doubling up on the
number ten.

There that's off my chest, just seems to me that there should be some form
of grading the upgrade cost especially as OS X 10.1 is so ripe off the vine.

I would hope that others with like feelings would express them to Apple and
try to get them to 'think different' - what a corny/catchy phrase!
