2024-01-17 Thread wendy.corrick--- via WAMUG
   Hi All

I am about to purchase a new MacBook Air. I have had my current one
since early 2017 and am finding it isn’t accepting updates of some
programs. I am having problems with ‘Photos’ in particular.

Apart from the software it is in excellent condition. Should I trade
it in (I think Apple only offers about $140) or I think I’ve read
someone on this list works their magic with old/unwanted computers and
then passes them on to someone who can’t afford one? True? If this
the case I would much prefer to go down this path. So if this is you
   could you reply?

   Best wishes

   Wendy

[WAMUG] MacBook Air purchase

Re: [WAMUG] Which Email address?

2023-11-06 Thread wendy.corrick--- via WAMUG
   Hi Pete, Robin and Stephen

I am accessing Webmail through my browser Firefox. This goes back to
the early days when we travelled and I wanted to check my emails. I
didn't want my emails downloaded to an internet cafe and then not
   visible at our next destination.

When I ask for webmail using the old method I used for iinet I now get
a TMC logon screen. I log on to this using my internet name and
password and this takes me to the old webmail sign-on screen.

I log on again and it works well.

I have tired to use Apple 'Mail' and it is pretty good but old habits
are hard to change. I am used to the 'layout' of webmail. Much to the
   frustration of my daughter!

Re those companies sending stuff by letter mail telling me that they've
been unable to send an email; has anyone else had this problem?

   Many thanks

   Wendy

 Re: [WAMUG] Which Email address?
Hi Wendy … you have me intrigued.
Why do you now log in to The Messaging Co ?
 My daughter is with Westnet.
She simply she followed the steps suggested by Westnet to retain her
 email address
by the due date and nothing has changed.

Yep Peter I agree with your good summary.

I too have an iinet address (one of their very early customers in fact)
and I did more than groan when I heard they intended to out source the
management of their iinet email customers.

   I did it by the due date and now log in to The Messaging Company first;
this takes me automatically to the familiar iinet screen where I log in
   again.

All is OK; except many companies eg Medibank assume that ALL iinet
customers MUST change their address. Our postman (the one that goes
around the streets delivering mail) is weighed down by the numbers of
letters this household has received requesting us to let the company
know of our new email address. (I exaggerate a bit there!) What I
haven't worked out is are these companies responding to some emails
that bounced? or are they just assuming that all iinet customers need
   to change their address.

It is becoming a real problem; and very time consuming in trying to
contact each company to tell them my address is valid.

Whether or not the Messaging Company will be happy to have all these
iinet customers after the first year we will just have to wait and
see.. Along with how much they charge us.

   Best wishes all

 Re: [WAMUG] Which Email address?
Hi Rod, I am with Westnet as my ISP - same org as iinet I
 understand.
Westnet advised me a couple of months back too they are outsourcing
the email management. This was received with big groans. However,
Westnet (and iinet) are outsourcing the email management to The
Messaging Company. You have the choice to Opt In to their plan, in
which case they will manage the full migration of your Westnet (or
iinet) Mail accounts to The Messaging Company, but importantly you
will keep exactly the same email address afterwards. I have opted in
as making a change to a different email address would be a huge
undertaking with all the tangles with multiple other subscriptions,
providers etc my email address is associated with. Same to for the 4
other family members in my family. I dug further into this - the
 first
year of email management is free with The Messaging Company and then
from year 2, they will charge a fee for the email management. If I
look at my Westnet plan, the current email management fee will
disappear form day 1 after migration and thereafter. I don't know
 yet
how much The Messaging Company will charge from year 2.
You can ring the helpline for further details if other questions or
there is an FAQ page for the commonly asked questions.
 Kind Regards
 Peter Crisp

 Subject:[WAMUG] Which Email address?
 Hi Folks
So iinet email is shifting to another provider.
Please can you suggest which email address should now I use as my
 primary address?
 I currently use rb...@iinet.net.au
I have the following email addresses:
 rb...@iinet.net.au
 bli...@mac.com
 bli...@icloud.com
I am thinking of making bli...@mac.com as my primary address
 Thank you

[WAMUG] Where do we go from here?
 Hello Fellow WAMUGgers,
This Tuesday 6 September, our member meeting will focus on……wait
for it….Where do we go from here?

On August 1, I sent a notification the to the list that the
committee had decided change our general meetings from monthly
meetings to meetings ‘as and when needed’.
The following reasons came up in our discussions. They are not
criticisms of any person or group of people but are facts
The change in decision was due to -
 * declining attendance
 * not knowing what members would be interested in, which has
 resulted
in the committee coming up with ideas that might be of interest to
 members
 * presentations at meetings being left to a few.
 * our WAMUG list being the main source of information and help.
So, this month’s meeting is an opportunity for you to have your say
and join in the discussion. If you are interested in contributing,
 please join us .
