wyvern wrote: hi guys Kevin Lock said... If you are using OSX, make a note of the file name, restart in OS9, find that file and trash it. Restart in OSX and it SHOULD be goneworth a try ok I understand this nothing wrong with giving it a go. Restarted in classic, folder in trash, option-shift-empty trash. problem solved. Why that worked in classic and not in X I've no idea but it did. Thanks Kevin ...because OSX is very username/password/security oriented. OS9 is more or less oblivious to most of those details in a file so, blam! It shoots first leaving you to ask questions later. So be careful with other OSX files while in OS9. BTW Thumbs.db is a crappy little Windows file (which is always locked) and more than once they have tripped me up while attempting backups, anywhere there are image files in a folder windows keeps one of these to 'make our experience richer' or something richer anyway... Try selecting just files and not containers to avoid these and other little poltergeists. Cheers Paul
Invisible files
There is a good shareware app called Invisible Finder which I use with SYS 8.6. Cheers, Paul.
Re: invisible files
Hi Tom, I had a look on Version Tracker and came across these. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/7543 http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/9867 Neither of these were the useful little application that I have used myself though, I can't remember its name and I couldn't find it. I haven't tried either of them but they seem to be what you are looking for. If I find the one I was looking for I'll let you know. > Can anyone tell me > a program to view > invisible files or one that will let me see files > installed or that > should have been installed Regards, Kelly Want to chat instantly with your online friends? Also, Greg's Browser is really useful. It can be found on Version Tracker. RE: Invisible files
I think you can search for invisible files using Sherlock - just click on more search options, and it may involve holding the option key down to get the "if invisible" search if you're on an older version of the Mac OS. If not, File Buddy works just fine on a G4 - Disk Warrior does not perform searches as far as I know. -Original Message- From: Bob Howells [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, 16 October 2001 9:08 AM To: wamug Subject: Re: Invisible files Good Morning all. Re: Invisible files
Sherlock can find invisible files. It can't do a lot with them, but it can find them. Use the Custom button in the Sherlock window. -- Andrew Nielsen <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Starfish Technologies Pty Ltd <http://www.starfish.net.au/> ACN 076 426 714 / ABN 49 426 849 601 Tel: 0500 555 677 Consultants in Unix, Mac OS, Windows & networking technologies
