Arike,

I'm not here for personal attacks and it clearly looks like you have something
personal against me. If I opt out of something, that is my right and you should
not take it upon yourself to begin sayings things that do not add up.

If I may ask, what project have you as a person brought on the table and shown
willingness to drive? Its very absurd to criticize and not provide alternatives.

All I request is to be off the net to save me from attacks like you have
started (Arike).

I will offer my support to west nile issues in other ways.

Please mind your business and stop acting childish.

Dear Afema,
Thank you for your blind folded response, but I should like to let you know
that if all West Nilers behave and and deal with things you see none of us
would have wasted time exchanging ideas as you can see. I don't think you want

not know if you are Arua or like some who has runaway from Arua and has no
Contribution in the development of Arua or West Nile. Arua has remain stagnant
in terms of development. Arua hospital has very little changes environment is
never conducive and the area it self is too squeezed. Take for example if all

services be offered. All we know is argument and creating abusive languages
with out observing what to do. We have politician who has limited education and
they are to satisfy or put there for the interest of NRM instead of being
closer and guide them on what to do, unfortunately we are rhetorical and
vocally abusing them. For example the problem of return of 17 billion shillings
if we were to use wisdom of education share ideas with these politicians, take
them around the hospital environment and other sensitive areas. After all this
wise ways of handling them the billions of shillings should have been retained.
I am quite sure if proposals we given to these politicians for the funds to be
used to maintain Arua hospital they should released some part of it and now the
problem of electricity who wants to stay in darkness again if the same method
was used the funds would have released. Unfortunately we are all fighting for
our stomachs. I dearly respected our old people like Ali Zabiri, Nusur Okuti,
Ochanda,Umbia, former UPC MP Lobida, Conl. Ozo and several others these were
the people who worked tirelessly to build Arua and those who saw Idi Amin with
compound eyes. Even though he was uneducated he has contributed in developing
Arua. For example schools like St Charles Lwanga, St. Joseph's College Ombaci

minor things but still has created meaningful and forgotten development and

Kiggs,

I request that I get de registered from this forum given the direction
discussions are taking. For I know many are not happy with the idea of theme
night yet in many ways its been the only project that has registered some
revenue that has helped many initiatives and lots more. I'm fed up with
constant reminders about the accident where we lost our very own brothers which
was beyond under a circumstance beyond any ones control. That said, those that
will need me please you know how and where to get me.

Thanks.

RE: [WestNileNet] Arua - Science cafe

2010-10-01 Thread Okuti Boroa
Christine,

Good evening, you could try broadcasting the one tomorrow by connecting a
phone at Naalya to the one at Pacis if they are ready to broadcast, WARID
phones could be used or if MTN is willing to sponsor the link that can also
be done.

Regards

Dear Drani Andua,

I hope this finds you well. You had promised to talk to radio pacis about
hosting science cafe discussions in Arua, is it possible we can get a
feedback from you or you are still in Kampala. I have got many emails asking
us to take science cafe to Arua and Koboko showing the demand but I think
having it on radio pacis would be the best to cover our greater Arua. We
would be happy to get a wayforward from Arua. We had initially discussed
this with the District Health Officer and he was too much willing to be part
of it. I think the good will is already there so we need to plan the move.

We shall also have a discussion tomorrow to plan how the Kampala cafes will
be organized. A committee will be formed for this purpose under the umbrella
of westnile forum. Part of this was discussed in the previous cafe, we shall
concretize it tomorrow and post the feedback here.

Thanks

Christine

2010-10-01 Thread Andua Drani

Dear Christine,

Let me apologise for my inability to render a respponse in regard to the pledge
I made to contact the managment of Radio Pacis to host the Scince cafes. I did
contact the Arua Diocese Health Coordinator, Asindua Philip who is receptive.
He has a weekly health programme where the the key presenter is Dr. Onzubo
Paul, the Arua Municipal Medical Officer Health.

I am not sure how you intend the presentation on the radio is to be done:
whether we use a locally based expertise or presenters in Kampala will travel
to Arua. Let me know so that I can get back to Asindua. I am trying to secure
his registration on the WNnet for ease of the coordination work.

I also suggest establishment of simmilar arrangements with other FM Radios in
the region, esp. those in Moyo, Adjumani, koboko and Nebbi.

Andua

Re: [WestNileNet] Public hearing on New power generator in West Nile

2010-10-01 Thread alfred tulu
Daer Members,

Am I reading the right thing, "Thermal"? What has happened with Nyagak Hydro
power? Is the Thermal to substitute Hydro or run parallel? Haven't we suffered
enough from  WNERECO Thermal? Please up date me on the Nyaka Power project.

Dear members,

Reference to a New Vision article on 28th September 2010 (Nebbi residents to
decide power firm’s fate) and other correspondences regarding the same, I would
like to challenge the members of this forum to put their voices together and
deliberate on the fate of the new power generation company whose public hearing
is due tomorrow 30th September 2010 at Arua Catholic Centre starting 2:00pm.
Such views in my opinion can be documented and presented as part of a public
hearing from the hundreds of members who contribute to this forum.

Albatros Energy Ltd from Mauritius, was approached by Government of Uganda to
build a 10MW power plant in Pakwach to supply thermal electricity to the entire
Westnile Region and parts of Acholi Sub region on a build, operate and own
basis. As a requirement by ERA (the government regulator), there has to be a
public hearing conducted in the areas where the power generated is to be
supplied and related modalities.

Time and again we (as people from West Nile) have been disadvantaged by
electricity supply mainly as a result of:

Low power production: (1.5MW) by HFO plant currently run by WENRECO. This is
inadequate to sustain any industrial development in region and as such the
region misses out on significant investment opportunities.
High electricity tarrifs: One of the highest in the region (over 500/= per
Kilowatt hour). UMEME charges a domestic tarrif of 385/= per Kilowatt hour and
yet this is being fought by consumers. This has made access to and usage of
electricity not only expensive but prohibitive and criminal
Irregular supply:West Nile (selected districts as such) receives 18 hours of
power supply per day and at irregular intervals with a “take or pay” pay
principle.
Monopoly of WENRECO: As the only generator and distributor in the region,
WENRECO has overstepped its mandate with unrealistic charges on poles, services
and  tarrifs.
The above incidences not to mention environmental degradation as a result of
exploitation of woodfuel for alternative source of energy has had its toll on
the region in all social and economic
Encumbrances.

What is your opinion therefore, as we strive to demand for reduced tarrifs, 24
hour supply, differentiation in power generation and distribution, higher
capacity and many other associated benefits?

Sam Ejibua
