[Bug 29083] New: Filter for namespace on wanted pages

2011-05-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29083

 Web browser: ---
Bug #: 29083
Summary: Filter for namespace on wanted pages
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: Special pages
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mediaw...@spambog.com
Classification: Unclassified

All wanted pages browse the wiki for existing links to create the ranking. I
noticed that very many wished certain photos/pages/categories on their talk
pages.

As all non-existing links are counted together, the wanted pages show a too
subjective and unreliable ranking and masses of "wanted" pages by one single
user.

I'd put my interest on content pages only while others whould like spare out
blog, user or template pages maybe. My suggestion would be to add a filter for
all/certain wordspaces like it is on "recent changes".

Include/exclude pages:
- content
- user
- project
- blog
- template

Why does "AnomieBOT II" even need the rights all it is doing is creating
subpages in the template namespace...

Adminbot operators on enwiki must themselves be admins. We'd have to either
replace the bot operator or pass an RFA.

Yep, after applying the path
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_talk:Include#patch_for_PHP_5.3.x this
worked and _is_ the solution of my problem.

You experts could perhaps checks, whether this secure-include can be added to
Mediawiki site to allow extension writers to secure-include texts from their
SVN files. Because the extension already allows to white- or black-list, this
could be quickly adapted for that specific use, afaik.

I will close this bug, because my current problem is solved for 98%. I also
contacted the maintainer (Matthieu, bravo!) to point him to this bugzilla, and
asked to include the virus checker option, if possible.

This could be more easily implemented once bug 18374 is solved.
Also, I was wrong about AbuseFilter 'visibility' being unnecessary once this
bug is solved, as it would still be needed for AF log entries about edits which
were never saved.

The preference is checked by default. When I uncheck it and save, the
preference is still in effect. Very annoying, since it duplicates a function
that my browser implements much better.

Affects Safari/Mac 5.0.5 (6533.21.1), on en.Wikipedia, en.Wiktionary, and
wiki.openstreetmap.org. From memory, this preference has never worked, since
the feature was added.

--- Comment #2 from Krinkle 2011-05-21 23:03:08 UTC ---
This is happening due to a local script which assummed the element was
the only element inside the tag, and overwrite the inner contents.

This removed the tag inside the for skins like Vector.

Instead the script should look for the tag and replace the text of tag.
That way the script will be shorter and it will work in both Vector and
Monobook.

See also http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Snippets/Main_Page_tab

I've applied the fix.

[Bug 29028] Provide more flexibility for defining if a gadget should be visible on Special:Preferences

2011-05-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29028

Krinkle changed:

 What|Removed |Added

CC||krinklem...@gmail.com

--- Comment #8 from Krinkle 2011-05-21 21:18:39 UTC ---
The some-rights thing (ie. part if you can block, part if you can delete etc.)
can probably be achieved by making the gadget more object oriented / modular
and splitting it up in multiple modules that can be plugged-in.

ResourceLoader take care of dependancies and make it into a single request
without duplicating code.

For example in ResourceLoader2 the following is likely possible:

Gadgets:

* Awesome-core
** hidden: true
** scripts: awesome.core.js (MediaWik:Gadget-awesome.core.js)

* Awesome-delete
** scripts: awesome.delete.js (MediaWiki:Gadget-awesome.delete.js)
** dependencies: awesome-core
** rights: delete

* Awesome-block
** scripts: awesome.block.js (MediaWiki:Gadget-awesome.block.js)
** dependencies: awesome-core
** rights: block

Preferences:
[_] Enable Awesomeness on the Delete-page
[_] Enable Awesomeness on the Rights-page

-core will only be loaded once, and if one of the modules is enabled.

However "load if one of the following rights" is not possible yet (or planned
to), I'm not sure we should though, it makes it hard to make any assumptions
about the gadget later on. I think in most cases the above is what you actually
want and not "one of the following rights".

--- Comment #7 from Salvatore Ingala 2011-05-21

This is actually not very related with my GSoC project, whose scope is to allow
gadget developers to export the configuration variables of their gadgets (which
are then delivered to user code); this is not related to all those kinds of
configurations that currently go in the Gadgets-definition page.

The idea of allowing more complex visibility criteria is nice, but I'm not sure
it is worth the effort - how many examples are there of (existing) gadgets
where it would be useful?

:This problem is because of the updates to "Main Page layout fixes" in
common.js maintained by User:AzaToth, User:R. Koot, [[User:Alex
Smotrov]] not being propagated to the wikis in question. Wikis still using the
"mainPageRenameNamespaceTab" function (which is loaded by the "addOnloadHook")
will face this problem. I have put in a fix for ta wiki, but i guess, we will
have to completely rewrite common.js to be in sync with enwiki and other
leading wikis

[Bug 3665] Auto-detect interface language for anonymous users

2011-05-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3665

--- Comment #25 from dohnp...@gmail.com 2011-05-21 20:03:40 UTC ---
Yes, they maybe have them misconfigured, but in fact it means "Not configured",
default, in other words they have English there on the first place – so nothing
would change for them, as now they have the interface in English as well. For
users having the browser configured it would be better: Why to configure the
browser language setting, if the webs neglect it?

I really do not understand other thing now. Being not logged in, having the
cache renewed and browsing anonymously with Mozilla, with Slovak in the
language setting on the first place there, being in Portugal – in Commons there
is a Czech notification "Wikimedia Commons is available in Czech". From where
does the site take the language information? I thought it is the language
setting, but obviously not, as now I prefere there Slovak, nonetheless nothing
changed in Commons, it still offers Czech (but unfortunatelly just offers, it
doesn't display the interface in that language).

tboverride not required for creating user accounts which are blacklisted.
Actually, EITHER tboverride OR tboverride-account are required. Hence, it is
not essential to some requests, and neither would it break any system.

The only thing it would actually change would be the ability of account
creators to edit specific blacklisted pages. It wouldn't stop account creators
from creating accounts with blacklisted names.

Is it necessary to add a Security alert[1] to the extension's page (such as
that on mw:Extension:AbcMusic), warning the user about the security
problems/vulnerabilities pointed out by Tim on comment 103 and comment 105?

Looks like a solution. Hey, can perhaps someone of you experts make a clean and
secure version of it (for MediaWiki:Extension documentation pages)

It would allow to transclude e.g. README file or TODO file directly from SVN on
the Extensions' manual pages, and would avoid duplication of contents.

$wgDBprefix is the prefix of the local database, so it is not used when using a
foreign database, you need to pass it in the third parameter of wfGetDB() by
separing it from the database name with a dash, so in you case you should set
$wgCentralDBname to 'mw_trunk-mw_'.

 Product: Wikimedia
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: srik@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified

The text "Main Page" in some language wikipedias appears as a broken text
instead of a hyper link. Some script overwrites the vectorTab caption as plain
text as opposed to be a hyper link.

Screenshot:- http://tawp.in/r/2bgy regarding the problem.

This bug is present in Tamil,Telugu wikipedias and other wiki-sister projects.

http://ta.wikipedia.org
http://ta.wiktionary.org

and possibly many more. However not all language Wikis have this problem,
Malayalam and Bengali seems to work fine.

That's not really related to what DPL does, it kind of can do that, but only
due to a security issue, its not intended to do that.

This sounds kind of like http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Include (which

[Bug 3665] Auto-detect interface language for anonymous users

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3665

--- Comment #24 from Bawolff 2011-05-21 18:01:28 UTC ---
Also, many people have their browsers languages misconfigured. Since those
settings are hard to find (generally), its often very unclear to the user why
they are getting language x vs language y. Any use of browser headers should
have clear ways in the interface to change the auto-detected defaults.

As for detecting language client side - you can always do an ajax like
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&meta=userinfo&uiprop=acceptlang

CCing User:Salvatore Ingala since his GSoC 2011 proposal[1] focus on
customization of gadgets and user scripts and the the present bug could be
considered in that escope because the "visibility of a gadget in the
preferences" is an aspect which needs to be customized depending on the gadget.
E.g.: tool developers may want some gadgets to be displayed/hidden depending on
a logical combination of user rights, such as
(rollback AND delete) OR (patrol AND markbotedits)
Besides, in addition to the idea of "newbie gadgets" mentioned at
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13742#c15
some gadgets which are specifically focused on experienced editors should not
clutter the interface seen by newbie users. So, in this case an admin could
want to hide a gadget unless the user is
(NOT autoconfirmed)
an so on. The extension could provide a field where developers could enter a
boolean expression involving the rights needed in order to specify the
visibility of the gadget. The current implementation only allow a specific
subset of this, namely: (right1 AND right2 AND ... AND rightN).

No, it doesn't fix this.

I don't suppose there's some magic way to change how jQuery urlencodes ajax
parameters to force dots to be urlencoded (per comment 0)? In my testing, that
would fix much of these issues.

(btw, for reference the original security bug is bug 28235. I'm just writing
that here because bugzilla search is a pain and I always have trouble finding
it).

I'm also marking this depends on bug 28840, not sure if that's right, but the
two issues are highly related.

This could be done for logged-in users, I guess, but it definitely can't be
done for anonymous users due to Squid caching. The browser language headers
can't be detected client-side, only server-side.

But in that case, if the user doesn't have any of the rights the gadget would
not be removed from Special:Preferences as it should.

The description of the "rights" parameter at gadget documentation is this:
"Makes the gadget visible in preferences only to users who have these
privileges."

It is implicit that this is about "users who have ALL these privileges" but the
bug is a request to be able to indicate that a user is allowed to see the
gadget if he has "AT LEAST ONE OF these privileges" and comment #4 doesn't
seems to be a solution for this. Besides, would that load the conditional js
pages combined in a single request as happens for parts indicated in

is given to the relevant bots. I don't know why Prodego didn't bother to
mention this, as he is certainly aware of the fact.

[Bug 4125] Preserve ?uselang=xx / &uselang=xx during sessions

2011-05-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4125

--- Comment #13 from dohnp...@gmail.com 2011-05-21 15:34:41 UTC ---
When I browser from
http://www.wikiskripta.eu/index.php/Soubor:Symbol_kept_vote.svg to
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Symbol_kept_vote.svg, I get the English
interface, nevertheless there is a panel above the picture, writing "Wikimedia
Commons je dostupné v češtině." (Wikimedia Commons are available in Czech.) and
I can click on it to have the Czech version of Commons.

So, the language information is transferred in some way already now – couldn't
it be transformed to the interface language directly?

Resumed, there are two parts to sort out, both for unlogged users:
* Commons interface after linking from external wikiprojects.
* Default Commons language neglecting the browser settings.

[Bug 29075] New: Allow MultiUpload to handle one description for file

2011-05-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29075

 Web browser: ---
Bug #: 29075
Summary: Allow MultiUpload to handle one description for file
 Product: MediaWiki extensions
 Version: any
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: MultiUpload
AssignedTo: tdero...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: martinezn...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified

MultiUpload was able to handle one description for each file, but on r76108
travis rewrote it so it uses a unique description field for all files.

This is a problem on our wiki since we usually categorize our images depending
on what characters appear on them and it now defeats the purpose of using
MultiUpload.

A nice feature would be to return the old way it worked, and also add the
option to use a single description field. With a bit of javascript one can show
the description fields of each file and hide the "general" description field,
and vice-versa.

I'm currently using a hack for this, generating description fields using
JavaScript and dumping them to the general description field inside a
statement, but it's
too tricky and probably other people would benefit from this extension.

When I browser from http://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soubor:Symbol_kept_vote.svg to
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Symbol_kept_vote.svg, AnonymousI18N
redirects me to suggestlang (which was set to 'cz', based on the referring
wikimedia domain).

Due to a script error this didn't happen in some cases, that is fixed [1] now.

[Bug 28633] AbuseFilter should respect revdel flags

--- Comment #4 from Andrew Garrett 2011-05-21 14:44:14

For now this is probably in the "patches welcome" category.

What would be necessary would be to hook the "revision deleted" event, and,
when that occurs, find the filter log entries with the same title, user and
timestamp, and set their afl_deleted flags to the appropriate value.

It would not be advisable to do this dynamically, as the original reporter
suggests.

[Bug 29070] [ApiWatch] Add token to action=watch

markpatrolled requires a POST. I think it would make sense to require this for
watching as well.

On the other hand, with markpatrolled we ended up with a token that is not
compatible between index.php and api.php (presumably becuase index.php should
not be POST for common actions and thus got an extra salt layer). Gadgets that
attempted to use the API to mark stuff as patrolled first have to make an API
request to get the token, the one already on the page was not compatible.

If we could it would be great if the tokens would be the same to avoid doing
the same as we did with markpatrolled. However this may have been done on
purpose. I guess once bug 29067 is fixed, we don't have to worry about that
anymore since gadgets could just get their tokens from there.

[Bug 29074] New: DB table prefix problem when specifying DB in wfGetDB

Bug #: 29074
Summary: DB table prefix problem when specifying DB in wfGetDB
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.19-svn
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: Database
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: jeroen_ded...@yahoo.com
Classification: Unclassified

I just had a go at installing Central Notice on my local wiki and discovered it
fails pretty hard when you are using DB table prefixes. I've done some
debugging an one particular issue seems to be in wfGetDB. I'm getting this
error:

The last attempted database query was: SELECT tmp_name FROM `cn_templates`
WHERE tmp_name = '2011EditorSurvey' LIMIT 1 from within function
"DatabaseBase::selectRow". Database returned error "1146: Table
'mw_trunk.cn_templates' doesn't exist (localhost)".

Which is coming from this code:

$dbr = wfGetDB( DB_SLAVE, array(), $wgCentralDBname );
$row = $dbr->selectRow( 'cn_templates', 'tmp_name', array( 'tmp_name' =>
$eTemplateName ) );

The wrong thing in the query is that it's selecting from mw_trunk.cn_templates,
while I have the prefix "mw_", so it should be mw_trunk.mw_cn_templates.
Apparently the $wgDBprefix does not get added when specifying the db in
wfGetDB. Commenting out this argument in the above code results in a correct
query (and no error).

No sure what the idea here is, and I'm not familiar with the DB code, so I'm
reporting this instead of trying to fix it myself :)

I, as I pointed out to roan (who was the person that changed it to yellow)
changed the colour from the yellow to a darker orangey yellowish colour because
the yellow was bright and hard to read the white text which was observed by
people who contacted me via other other sources.

Having beta and experimental closely matching colours isn't that bad, most
people from other discussions we have had in the irc channel tend to guard them
as close together if not the same but to the point having "clashing" colours
like that isn't as bad as having colours as what one person described to me as
"eye gouging".

I plan to open up discussions about the colour scheme on one of the lists later
after I sleep and possibly discuss a idea (after I consult a few others to see
if its double/worthwhile) which will mean we won't need this rankings (which no
one really care about anyway).

I don't understand. The base64 is backwards compatible if you parse with an XML
parser.

I have absolutely no idea what would break, but I know MediaWiki well enough
that something will break.

That's fine. However, I don't think that I will have time to review and commit
the patch, so somebody else should review it then.

[Bug 4125] Preserve ?uselang=xx / &uselang=xx during sessions

My browser interface is in Czech (cs).

If I click (unlogged) on "file description page" in the sentence "This file is
from Wikimedia Commons and may be used by other projects. The description on
its file description page there is shown below." on a local image page (for
instance "http://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soubor:Symbol_kept_vote.svg";), I get
Commons in English.

If the language is preserved automatically among Wikimedia project (which
doesn't work now), there could be an option of the MediaWiki setting, useful
for external wikiprojects, to add uselang to the links from local image pages
to Commons. E.g. WikiSkripta.eu, using InstantCommons, need it, because many
users there refuse working at Commons, if the interface is in English.
