TASK DESCRIPTION
I would like to propose a change in the way wikipedia is linked. Namely, I
often browse articles in Polish and when I see a red link because the article
does not exist, then I am looking for an article in Polish. English and is
often available. However, I search through the google page because the wiki
does not have the option of clicking on a non-existent article and checking
whether it exists in a different language. EXAMPLE on the website of the writer
and Nobel laureate Tomasz Mann (https://pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Mann)
his works are listed, many of which do not have their own website, such as "The
Chosen One (1951)", however, it is available in Polish . English and 6 other
languages. "The Holly Sinner"
(https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holy_Sinner). Where can I propose such a
fundamental change in Wikipedia so that non-existent pages in a given language
can be linked to some type of page with information that the content is
available in other languages? I am asking this question also due to the fact
that an increasing percentage of Polish-speaking people speak a second or even
another language. Another reason is the desire to skip google search. If I
could go to a page that does not exist and just switch the language instead of
doing a google search, it would be a faster way to get to the information. This
is quite a fundamental chunk because I think it concerns the creation of a new
class of objects in the wikipedia code structure. I have been browsing the wiki
for years and I have encountered something like that. Maybe you are able to
direct me to the "technical department"? In my opinion, websites that are
available but only in other languages could have yellow links or any other
(third) color next to blue and red.
**Feature summary** (what you would like to be able to do and where):
I would like to have a chance for reading article in other language if it
doesn't exist in my primary language just by clicking to link for page that
does not exist. I want to see Page from some kind of template which informs me
that this article is available only in other languages.
**for now I have to google for desired page because clicking red link leads
only to " create page" module.**
**Use case(s)** (list the steps that you performed to discover that problem,
and describe the actual underlying problem which you want to solve. Do not
describe only a solution):
1. I'm opening website of the writer and Nobel laureate Tomasz Mann (language
is polish https://pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Mann)
His works are listed, many of which do not have their own website, such as
"The Chosen One (1951)".
**Current behavior:**
it isn't available in Polish and clicking on the link leads to editor
https://pl.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wybraniec_(Thomas_Mann)&redlink=1#/editor/all
.
**Expected behavior**
As page is available in english and 6 other languages. (The Holly Sinner
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holy_Sinner ).
Link to this "nonexistent" page is colored differently than red (for
absolutely non existing pages) and differently than blue (to give user a sign
that he could expect other languages)
**Benefits** (why should this be implemented?):
Many people today are multilingual. for example in poland many people could
benefit if they could use wikipedia in multiple languages. I personally could
easily broaden my knowledge of articles in English while reading articles in
Polish. if only I didn't have to change the wiki language for each password and
search or use google.
This could make wiki, wiki wiki.
