over 1.9 million photos of its collection available for free online under a
Creative Commons license.

Under the new agreement the majority of the 1.9 million images are being

license <https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/>. Users no
longer need to register to use these photographs, and can now download them
directly from the British Museum.

Under the terms of the Creative Commons license, you are free to share and
adapt the images for non-commercial use, but must include a credit to the
British Museum.

people if they fancy a World AIDS Day editathon (it's 1 December each year).

Has anyone got in touch with the Comann Eachdraidh Uibhist a Tuath people
who ran a session at Mozfest last year?

I can't find a more useful URL about the session than
https://github.com/MozillaFoundation/mozfest-program-2016/issues/825 and
I've failed miserably to type up any of my notes or collate the tweets, but
they're www.ceut.scot and have a "virtual museum" and a bunch of 360
photography  and VR stuff they did with support
from the University of St Andrews. I don't remember the details, but there
was a bunch of it involving Gàidhlig (oddly enough, given they're a
Hebridean organisation).

Probably worth someone getting in touch, at least.

They just responded, rejecting my request under s17(4):

In accordance with the Act, this letter represents a Refusal Notice for
this particular request under Section 17(4).

Section 17(4) of the Act provides:

(4) A public authority is not obliged to make a statement under subsection
(1)(c) or (3) if, or to the extent that, the statement would involve the
disclosure of information which would itself be exempt information.

The Metropolitan Police Service can neither confirm nor deny that it holds
the information you requested as the duty in Section 1(1)(a) of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 does not apply, by virtue of the following
exemption:

S30(3) Investigations

The MPS will not disclose whether it has carried out an investigation, or
whether an investigation is taking place, unless that information has
already been placed in the public domain, through channels such as the
media or the court process. Nor will we confirm whether or not
correspondence has been received by a force from a third party.

Any disclosure under Freedom of Information is a release of information to
the world in general and not an individual applicant. Therefore, simply
confirming or not that such information were held would reveal which force
has and hasn't had contact with the IWF.


I don't suppose anyone has any evidence that the IWF definitely contacted a
specific police force, do they?  :o)

Having been involved with PayPal subscriptions with the Open Rights Group,
it's, quite frankly, a complete arse.
Every time a PayPal user changes their card details, PayPal cancels all
their ongoing subscriptions.

I'd quite strongly recommend ignoring PayPal (for *recurring* donations;
feel free to solicit one-offs through them) and just stick with STOs, which
are easy enough to set up with any UK bank.

You are, of course, right.

That doesn't change, however, that this image is not illegal to view, it's
merely in a greyer legal area of "might be illegal". Which does nothing to
change the IWF's shameful overreach in blocking the article as well as the
image — and in doing such a cack-handed job of either.  :o)

The legal definition of indecent, in this context, under English law,
appears to be "anything which and ordinary decent man or woman would find to
be shocking, disgusting, or revolting" (Knuller vs DPP, 1973).
As no jury has, to my knowledge, ever determined that this image meets that
test, then the image does not qualify as indecent under English law. At
elast until some jury decides to the contrary.

I have to agree completely, though, that the pose is indeed exhibitionistic,
but not intrinsically erotic or sexual.
