Jerry, Thanks for posting that. I have been using it for years with all the
updates and did not realize it would do that. Nice feature. Once in a while
you could just go into it and delete the ones you do not want.

Re: [WISPA] Canopy NMS

2008-12-28 Thread Jerry Richardson
You can set it up to scan a subnet on a regular basis. New SM's will be
discovered and added.

The only downside is that PRTG does not have a way to specify the
interfaces you want it to add. Canopy has 4 4 traffic ports - Ethernet,
Radio, HTTP, and FTP and PRTG will add all of them during auto
discovery. This uses up 3 more sensors than are needed.

On Canopy we monitor
AP: SM count, traffic, and ping.
SM: Ping, traffic and occasionally jitter and dBm.

You can download and evaluate a commercial version of PRTG to see if it
meets your needs.

Does it automatically grab new SM's and start graphing them, or do you

It does it automatic. You just put in the ip space. There is a feature that
does this. It also grabs the name from each canopy and lists that as well.
Its a pretty cool program. I have about 150 radios being graphed.

However, you can't buy JUST the internet service looks like you have
to purchase all 3... so really, they are charging more than what it
really appears. Also, those speeds are "up to" and not guaranteed.
