Re: [WISPA] Fiber Termination Kit
Now that I figured out what I was doing wrong, I really like the AFL FAST connectors. I use their fiber, connectors and tool kit. Tools just under $2K. Connectors < $12.00 each. Fiber price is competitive. I purchase from TeamSales in Indianapolis. We currently use AMP Lightcrimp Plus, but are looking at using Belden FiberExpress Brilliance in the future. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQtiUTY-6zs http://www.graybar.com/documents/belden-fiberexpress-installation-guide.pdf On Tue, Oct 25, 2011 at 3:42 PM, Matt wrote: > We are looking to trench some fiber to a new tower a few hundred foot > away. [WISPA] Fiber Termination Kit
We are looking to trench some fiber to a new tower a few hundred foot away. Was wandering how cost effective to cut and terminate our own fiber for this would be? Its close enough for cat-6 to reach but was thinking just dropping fiber instead to avoid needing arrestors. What fiber does everyone recommend and what connector kit? If its to expensive may just get some premade fiber runs or go cat-5/6. WISPA Wants You! Re: [WISPA] Fiber termination
We use an Amp Lightcrimp Plus kit. It can also do LC, SC, and ST. It cost ~400 used, it is simple, and quick (if done correctly). Cheap, simple, does good job = pick 2 I recommend the Corning Pretium Unicam kit there are a few variations but it will allow you to install LC / SC / ST end no problem on both single and multimode cable. Re: [WISPA] fiber termination
We have found $60 per strand per side termination to be market rate. However, we use Corning's no polish system, and it takes 15 minutes per strand end, if you aren't real good at it, and the connector is $15. The cost to termianting fiber, is when you mess up.SCrew up a connector, and you just threw away $15. Fail a quality test (packet loss on fiber) and you just added hours to the job, tracking down which bad termination end needs replaced. Re: [WISPA] fiber termination
We just terminated some fiber we put in. Used hot melt and hand polished the the fiber. It took no more than an hour to do 6 strands on each end. Maube 1 1/2 hour. Not sure which connectors you are using, but those can be expensive as well. I think we must have paid about 15.00 per connctor. [WISPA] fiber termination
Does anybody have an idea how much I should expect to pay per termination to terminate 5 strands of multimode fiber? The fiber is already pulled into the racks, someone would just need to terminate the ends. Thanks Chris Cooper WISPA Wants You!
