[WiX-users] Question about InstallValidation for uninstall
Hi all, When uninstall a product, during InstallValidation, MSI will check if need to close any dependent applications. If yes, will show a message box: The following applications should be lcosed before continuing the install: ... And let user choose (1)Automatically close applications and attempt to restart them after setup is complete. (2)Do not close applications. (A reboot will be required) Our product is depends on another windows service, but I don't want to show this dialog. Of course I can schedule an action to close the application before installvalidation, but I do not want to do this, because then I need to handle the restart for various cases (cancel before/after installinitialize, install success/fail etc). Is there any way that we don't show the dialog, but force to use option (1)? Re: [WiX-users] WIX Licensing
Apparently my company is OK with the Eclipse Public License but not the Common Public License, and the only change between the two is the removal of this sentence in section 7: *If Recipient institutes patent litigation against a Contributor with respect to a patent applicable to software (including a cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit), then any patent licenses granted by that Contributor to such Recipient under this Agreement shall terminate as of the date such litigation is filed. *Other companies apparently did have issues with this part of the CPL which is why the Eclipse foundation created an updated version. Re: [WiX-users] WIX Licensing
Microsoft does copyright assignments for all contributions to WiX so they are in fact the sole contributor in the context of this license. I believe the process would be fat chance in hell but only Rob could speak to any possiblity of negotiating this. I know that the my internal group that I mentioned earlier has on occasion forced vendors to negotiate different terms and licenses so it's not impossible, just extremely difficutl. I had to deal with this extensively this year because my very own open source project IsWiX actually was born as an internal research and development activity at my company and I had to negotiate with them to assign all of the IP to me so that I could release it as open source and then license it back to them. Very complicated stuff licensing can be. Use an external UI to do the same work. What is the difference between using an external UI(msi related) vs using an external UI in the exe? Are there any advantages of using the MSI external UI? Re: [WiX-users] Detecting major upgrade problem
Doh! I figured it out - and I've asked this question before but in a different way. The answer is: If you have more than one NewDialog event that has a true condition, the one with the highest order number will execute, and the others will be ignored. You need to make your conditions mutually exclusive. and it was provided by Blair-2 Sorry for the dumb post. -- View this message in context: http://windows-installer-xml-wix-toolset.687559.n2.nabble.com/Detecting-major-upgrade-problem-tp5462729p5466765.html Sent from the wix-users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Sell apps to millions through the Intel(R) Atom(Tm) Developer Program Be part of this innovative community and reach millions of netbook users worldwide. Re: [WiX-users] XMLConfig question
I've made some headway, but not quite there yet. The closest I've gotten so far is this code util:XmlConfig Id=XMLMod50 File=C:\web.xml Action=create Node=value On=install ElementPath=/web-app/context-param[\[]param-name='DEFAULT_LOCALE'[\]] Name=param-value Value=other Sequence=1 / Which results in this value being written to the second line below rather than it modifying the fourth line. web-app context-param param-valueother param-nameDEFAULT_LOCALE/param-name param-valueen_US/param-value /context-param context-param param-nameDEFAULT_TIMEZONE/param-name param-valuePacific/param-value /context-param /web-app -Original Message- From: Chad Petersen [mailto:chad.peter...@harlandfs.com] Sent: Thursday, August 26, 2010 11:26 AM To: General discussion for Windows Installer XML toolset. Subject: [WiX-users] XMLConfig question I have an XML file that looks like this. The goal is to alter the en_US to some other value. web-app context-param param-nameDEFAULT_LOCALE/param-name param-valueen_US/param-value /context-param context-param param-nameDEFAULT_TIMEZONE/param-name param-valuePacific/param-value /context-param /web-app I've written a very small installer with this entry util:XmlConfig Id=XMLMod50 File=C:\web.xml Action=create Node=value On=install ElementPath=/web-app/context-param[\[]param-name='DEFAULT_LOCALE'[\]] Name=./param-value Value=other VerifyPath=/web-app/context-param[\[]param-name='DEFAULT_LOCALE'[\]] Sequence=1 / The verbose log says Installation failed near the end, but it doesn't display an error, it simply rolls back. I'm not sure if my xPath syntax is wrong or exactly what it doesn't like. Any ideas? Re: [WiX-users] Question about InstallValidation for uninstall
Thanks Phil. My question is: is there anyway for me to hide the MsiRMFilesInUse dialog, and do the close/restart application automatically? I want to use the Restart Mananger rather than implement start/stop functions by myself, but I don't want user to see this dialog. Re: [WiX-users] Question about using XmlFile (WixUtilExtension.dll in general, actually)
Are you referencing the dll in your Visual Studio project? On Thu, Aug 26, 2010 at 3:29 PM, Dave DaveLists dbfli...@gmail.com wrote: Thanks for the response Chad. I do indeed have the xmlns:util setup at the top of my WIX source file. Do you use WIX 3.0 or 3.5? Subject: Re: [WiX-users] Question about using XmlFile (WixUtilExtension.dll in general, actually) Ah, yes, sorry. It is a wix compiler error: The Component element contains an unhandled extension element 'util:XmlFile'. Please ensure that the extension for elements in the 'http:⁄⁄schemas.microsoft.com⁄wix⁄UtilExtension' namespace has been provided. I googled this line and found a few references to it but the suggestion was always to add a reference to WixUtilExtension.dll, which we already have. We tried deleting it and putting it back in manually but this did not help (and I verified that the DLL is in the directory where candle and light are, just to be sure).
