Re: [ydl-gen] Noisy fan on Power G5 and YDL 6.2

2012-11-14 Thread rarob
When my dual 2.0 G5 tower was still alive (died w/memory controller
problem in '11) I never noticed fan problems except with the first several
G5 releases from YDL. I had YDL6 (6.1 I *think*) on it last and it was
ok. The initial releases when the G5 first came out had zero fan control,
and the box might have taken off given wings and wheels.

Sorry for the top-post, but...

Have you tried 'openssl dgst -sha1 ' ? I'm not in front of my OS
X box right now so I don't remember if it works the same way there, but
this is how I do the checksums on my Linux box. I believe some versions
of openssl equate that with the 'openssl sha1 ' command you tried
below as well.

Not sure what YDL is running (I'm at work right now), but my SUSE 11.0 box
is running cups-1.3.9-8.14

Re: [ydl-gen] IBM XLC/C++ and XLF for YDL on Cell

2009-03-06 Thread rarob
Warren,
If I remember correctly it is something like $800 for XLC/C++ and $1200 for
XLF , but *please* don't quote me on that. It has been quite some time since I
checked prices.
The last time I did a bake off of the xlc vs gcc was 5-6 years ago on a Apple
dual G4 box (bought ~2000, don't remember the exact version), and xlc stomped
all over gcc in math ops. I believe it has closed the gap since then.
If you need support for some of the Dec extensions to Fortran-77 your choices
may be limited. I only found IBM's compiler and Absoft that would handle some
of the code I was porting.

Kai,

These are time-limited trial products. Do you know what the cost of a
commercial license is? (Probably more than I can afford).

Thanks.
