[ActiveDir] DNS

We currently have our DNS/DHCP/WINS running on a Win NT 4.0 member server (all of our servers are NT 4.0) and we are going to be upgrading to Win2K. Of course, we plan on upgrading our PDC first. Would the recommendation be to install DNS/WINS/DHCP on the PDC prior to upgrading to Win2K? List in

I would make sure you even need WINS before enabling it on the new 2k PDC. In my experience, the configuration of DNS on a new win 2000 server seems to vary in degrees of success, I would attempt to install these on the PDC first. You mihgt have a better chance of a smooth conversion rather than a

Agreed, if your clients are running y2k you should not need wins, however in my experience windows 98 clients love WINS and don't like dns so much. Try not installing it and install it if you have to. -Original Message- From: Nah Idee [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, March 19,

I have found that if you have HP Printers in your network and HP Jet directs that you will need to have WINS otherwise you will have a hell of a time trying to get printing undercontrol. -Original Message- From: Bryan Schlegel [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2002

DNS cannot be on a NT4 machine when you upgrade unless the machine you are upgrading is the DNS server. Reason being because NT4 DNS does not support the necessary records that Active Directory needs. -Original Message- From: Nah Idee [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, March

Another thing to note on HP jetdirect.. there are servers turned on by default with blank passwords that could allow a malicious user to change things, such as IP config. Imagine the havoc caused by someone setting the IP on an unsecured HP printer to the same as the gateway on that subnet... -

You can move stores fairly easy in exchange2000.  Dismount.  Edit the path.  Move the store.  Mount.   William -Original Message-From: Oluwaseyi Owoeye [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2002 7:50 AMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] Active Direct
