John, Todd is quite right. The only thing for sure with a new tube is that it
is new. I've had several radios that worked quite well with tubes that tested
poor to bad. Some receivers will perform well with a fair tube and others won't
with the same tube, If it works, leave it alone. Good
John, Do you have a tube tester? I'd try testing them before replacing them

The ham that got me into radio had a strange experience. His wife bought a new
home to be near their daughter. It is in a highly restricted community. He
was out stringing a long wire along the edge of his roof when the home owners

I have three non-hollow state radios. They work BUT
are rather boring after a very few minutes. The tube
type equipment, on the other hand, is always
interesting to fire up and get on the air with. I pity
the EXPERTS that just don't know any better and insist
on showing it at every oppertunity.
--- Brett, I just got my R388 back and am in the
process of getting use to it. WHAT A RECEIVER! It is
going to be my choice to teat up with my BC-610. Bob AB8OP

Last night I was tuned to WKBN 570 A.M. which at one time had a 50 plus mile
range when I was treated to a Spanish speaking station from who knows where. At
the time I was within ten miles of the WKBN transmitter. I wonder what they
will foul up next? Bob AB8OP

Several years ago one older ham was working on 20 wpm code for his extra class.
He was seated at his kitchen table listening to code tapes while his wife was
doing the dishes. She had picked up enough code just by listening to copy the
practice tapes. Her husband didn't do so well. He upgrad
