problem solved:
postfix would store the emails in /home/vmail/
dovecot would read the emails from /home/vmail//
the solution is to change in /etc/webapps/postfixadmin/config.inc.php from:
$CONF['domain_in_mailbox'] = 'NO';
to:
$CONF['domain_in_mailbox'] = 'YES';
