It's imho a Windows issue, related to what I described earlier. As _nothing_
has changed in this part of the SC code in weeks, a new build can't change the
behaviour.

I tried resetting Firefox as my default browser but it made no
difference. I then tried associating .url files with Firefox instead
of IE but that prevented SC7 from starting altogether so I am now back
to the original problem with the error window appearing when starting
SC7.

Go to Windows settings where you can define your default browser. Define it
