Greetings!
It was a nice day today at the Arboretum. In the valley there were some
Orange Crowned Warblers along with a very cooperative Mockingbird.
The usual White Throated and White Crowned Sparrows and a lone Fox Sparrow
were also present.
By the feeders were many Purple Finches, House Finch
9 species of diurnal raptors totaling 756 individuals were seen today, 12
October 2010, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. under moderate NW winds and clear
blue sky with no clouds.

Hi All
Not sure if this is of note or not, but I counted over 125 Killdeer at Lagoons
1 & 2 in Port Stanley on Sunday. Most of them were loafing and sunning on the
berm between the 1st & 2nd lagoons but a few were at the waters edge.
There were also a few Yellowlegs, both Lesser and Greater.

Ontbirders,
A second adult GWF Goose has joined the previously reported bird, along the
north shore of the lake, on a gravel shoal in the west end. The 1st bird has
been seen, sporadically, at the lake and feeding in the cornfields just north
of
the park, over the past weekend.

While not a million ducks (what a site that would be) Popham Bay off
Presqu'ile Provincial Park had its first big raft of divers today.
About 6000 birds in one big long raft was almost a kilometre offshore.
Scope views showed most were scaup, I'm thinking Greater but I could not
tell at that distan
I had my first flock of Greater Snow Geese in the sod fields east of
Casselman along Hwy 138 on Sunday. There were about 300 in with a few
hundred Canada Geese.

Spent the morning birding various areas on the east side of Ottawa. One of the
highlights was a female Black-backed Woodpecker at the Mer Bleue. It was
pecking away on a dying spruce tree at the end of the first bridge along the
main trail. Over along Milton Road we observed 2 Sand
