I was waiting at the marsh at the east end of Van Dyne Spoor Rd. (Montezuma
area) for possible short-eared owls late this afternoon. Sporadically, there
were MALLARDS flying hither and yon in small groups. If I had had to estimate
their numbers in the whole marsh, I would have guessed a coup
?Happy to have spotted a pair of bluebirds feeding on sumac today. Nice
yardbird for a gloomy late December day.

I've corresponded with the reporter and it seems pretty good, not a domestic
Mallard variant: She's familiar with the species from Denmark, the Great Lakes,
and Alaska. The bird was alone in the middle of Dryden Lake, diving frequently.

I was down at Stewart Park this morning (11am) near the southeast corner of the
lake, and an adult bald eagle flew in, leisurely, over the lake. Shortly
after, a juvenile bald eagle flew in, and the adult started chasing the
juvenile, but not ag
With cold weather coming I think the huge bird numbers at the Savannah mucks
and Knox-Marsellus will be coming to an end soon. Prediction for Sunday-Monday
overnight is mid-20's but I'm more worried about the Mon-Tues overnight when it
will hit mid-20s but with no recovery the next day, a patte
They were far from shore but still very impressive
